When people are saying “I gained X amount of muscle or X inches on my arms” you guys aren’t saying from when you were 13 years old and would have put on 20+lbs just existing and growing into being a teenager… are you?
lol well when I was 16 and I started out on my 12lb dumbell curl every day for 30 minutes regimen… I had 9" arms.
I’m 17 now… turning 18 in december. I haven’t grown (height wise) since I was 13.

I think direct arm work is necessary for most, but not everyone. If I hammer my arms like most people do they grow way out of proportion to everything else.
I call bullshit on the “grow out of proportion” part. My arms grow fast as well but if they actually grew “out of proportion” it would mean I was slacking in those other body parts.
Unless your arms are over 19", I am doubting how cartoonish they appear.
Just hit 18, so no, I have a ways to go for those qualifications.
But you really would have had to see me before I started training to understand.
Dude, my arms were 18" in that picture of me at 210lbs taken years back. I think that may be in your head. Your arms would literally have to be dwarfing you for them to look too big.
There are a few body parts that simply have to look downright fake in order to look “too big”. Otherwise, they look impressive no matter how big they get.
Biceps are one of those. Shoulders and legs are the others.
What bodyparts can look “too big” without appearing cartoonish?

If you have 15 inch arms you’re still a beginner and will probably have (relatively) lagging parts. If you progress in your direct arm work while gaining mass it’s probably something that will just fix itself as you train for longer.
This is relative to the person and height of the person. A person at 5’6" or shorter will look pretty damn good with 15 or 16 inch arms…
Frank Zane… anyone?
He was no beginner and had 16" arms.
or does going from 15" to 16" arms make you a non-beginner?
Hah…my arms were 12" when I started.
My arms were 9" when I started.
Bullshit, I think Zane’s arms were much bigger than 16" and he is taller than 5’6"

Agreed. Zane was 5’9" and yes, he did have arms bigger than 16".
I am not sure why Zane has gained the incorrect rumor that he was short and tiny. The man would have stood out in the 70’s like Flex Wheeler in his prime would stand out now. He was in no way small.
I’m not sure where I saw the other stats though. Sorry guys. My bad. I could’ve sworn the wiki told me he was 5’6" with 16" arms before… I know I read that somewhere before.
And the only reason I remember that is becuase naturally… I aspire to be like the shorter bodybuilders. Sorry guys. Didn’t mean to post incorrect information

How old?
When people are saying “I gained X amount of muscle or X inches on my arms” you guys aren’t saying from when you were 13 years old and would have put on 20+lbs just existing and growing into being a teenager… are you?
I’m 17, weigh 63 kgs/139 lbs 175 cm, and have only been starting proper training for about 6 months. I play AFL (I live in Australia) and popped by shoulder out, so I have to be careful when I lift.
I do;
Front Squats
Sissy Squats
Deadlifts
Calfraises
Close and wide grip bicep barbell curls
Skullcrushers
Lateral raises
Upright row
Bent over row
Dumbbell flys
I just measured by arms then, from a cold start, I’m on a rest day today, so they aren’t pumped, I got 12".
Quite honestly, I’m tiny, so I don’t know how small you guys were to get 9"
I wouldn’t even know how much I lift, all the weights in the shed I’m sure are labeled wrong, I just add more until I can’t lift any. I’m really only looking for size, since I’m pretty under-developed.
