Why Iran Should Get the Bomb

Sure, among other things.
Careful…Dubya said that (and OBL in as many words,) so it absolutely HAS to be wrong. I mean how how a Southern Christian be right about anything? Unlike a Kenya COmmie who trained as a ‘Community Organiser’ under Ccmmunist radicals who also supported his rise to power?
I’d love to see that UBL quote from a reputable source. The Bush administration inferred al-Qaida’s motivations for its war against the U.S. not by what UBL and his organization explicitly stated, but based upon the effects that his attacks had upon America. It’s a textbook example of correspondent intereference theory. (Correspondent inference theory - Wikipedia) What does W’s religion or geographic origin have to do with the discussion? It certainly didn’t handicap his father’s foreign policy. Obama? Ok…
Don’t know how reliable a source you consider the BBC, but here is a fatwa supposedly delivered by bin Laden in 1996 declaring war on the “Zionist-Crusader Alliance”.

http://www.pbs.org/newshour/updates/military/july-dec96/fatwa_1996.html

No mention of hating the West for its freedom, rather a lengthy harangue against the West for depriving the Muslim world of theirs.

EDIT: Correction. The source was Al Quds Al Arabi, a London newspaper. Not the BBC.

If only we were “Islamisized” we could experience more freedom? Or a better kind of freedom?

Of maybe they hate us because they are truly evil – good ol’ fashioned, evil, malicious human beings that don’t need a reason to hate. They just do it because of the malignant growth in their souls.

I tend to go with the latter. For some reason.
If the al-Qaeda lecture mentioned in the link I posted is to be taken at face value, then it would seem your first guess was the correct one.
Maybe I should remember that al-Qaeda lectures should always be taken at face value.

That’s the ticket.
Hence the qualifier beginning with the word “if”.

Political pronouncements should probably never be taken at face value, regardless of who makes them.

For instance, we have a poster here on TN PWI (not Pittttbullll), a friend of mine even, who oftentimes makes absurd statements just to get a reaction.
Hey, I resemble that allegation.

I agree with Push…yes…among other things (like “freeing” the Holy Land on which Mecca stands of the Sunnis)…

You believe otherwise?

Mufasa
Ummm, al-Qaida’s members are ultra conservative Sunni Muslims.

Iran (who are mostly Shi’a) hate the Sunni; especially the “Royal Family” that occupies the land on which Mecca stands.

Where are you going with this, Bismark?

Ach, just realized you were referring to Iran and not al-Qaida, which explains my confusion. Apologies.

Do I believe that Iran is intent on starting a suicidal nuclear war with Israel? No. Do I believe that they should be allowed to become a nuclear weapons state? No. Do I believe that al-Qaida “hates us for our freedoms?” No.

Are the ranks of al-Qaida populated with hate filled vermin that should be the subject of intense counter-terrorism operations? Most certainly. Do they hate the West because of the reasons that Americans were told after 9/11? Absolutely not. Al-Qaida’s message was lost because of its status as a civilian-centric terrorist group. Mostly targeting civilians (as opposed to military targets) inevitably leads to a group’s limited objectives being construed into maximalist ones, making target states much less willing to consider policy concessions. There’s a good reason why the 28 foreign terrorist organizations as designated by the State Department have a success rate of only 7%.

Do you believe that the 1996 fatwa allegedly authored by bin Laden, and the more recent lecture given by the Pakistani al-Qaeda member, are an accurate representation of the organization’s agenda, or, as Push has implied, simply hyperbole and misdirection?

No.

And we wouldn’t, anyway, because that would effectively mean withdrawing support of Israel, and allowing Muslim control of the Temple Mount in Jerusalem, which is the third-holiest Muslim site. That’s never gonna happen, at least not on purpose.
