Why Iran Should Get the Bomb

This is an interesting take on the geopolitics of southwest Asia and the consequences of Iran’s nuclear weapons program. Hopefully this short article leads to a lively discussion.

Utter nonsense. History has shown that the minute a rogue state gets their hands on nuclear weapons, they will immediately turn those weapons upon their neighbor, especially when their neighbor is a sworn enemy with a centuries-old grudge. Witness the devastation inflicted upon India and South Korea shortly after Pakistan and North Korea became nuclear-capable, not to mention all of the nukes that ended up in the hands of their terrorist allies.

I agree, and don’t forget Israel, France, etc…they nuked all their neighbors as well.
If anything the Fukishima Radiation is more of an issue to me now,
what an unusually hushed up disaster there…they’re fucked in that immediate
area over there.

After the cold war there was this realization that with such weapons we could destroy the planet. We started to disarm some of our missiles as did Russia, and we figured out a way to utilize the warheads for energy.

No countries are able to use the power of nuclear energy in a responsible way. We have seen what can happen to nuclear plants via Fukushima, yet we still have plants in places like Diablo Canyon and San Onofre, sitting on top of fault lines.

Kinda seems like we need to clean up ourselves, we can’t even do nuclear energy safely. We are a power hungry and controlling nation, kinda seems like nobody should have nuclear weapons. We seem to be no more responsible or trustworthy or morally better than anyone else in the big picture. Just look at our track record.

If someone else has them then yeah, we should too. But it seems like the effort of disarming is pretty retarded, we have grown dumber and not learned from history, collectively as a species.

Iran will obviously use the nuclear bomb to annihilate the whole world

We make radiation detection devices where I work. Most of our product is used in nuke plants to monitor small leaks here and there and outdoor containment vessels.

We’ve been to Japan after the aforementioned disaster, we’ve been to Romania when they had their power plant issues. There is a far worse disaster deep in the Ukraine, makes Chernobyl look like a fart. That one is double-secret hushed up, we couldn’t even get close to it on our dime.

Rob

If you don’t think the threat of Iran making portable nuclear dirty bombs for use against Israel and other of its enemies is real, quite simply, you’re retarded.

I tried googling this, couldn’t get any results. Can you share any more info?

Only a fool would argue otherwise.

Ahh…looks like one has shown up already.
No need for ad hominems.

cwill, do you honestly believe that Iran would waste highly enriched radioactive material that it obtained at great cost in human capital and treasure on something as ineffective and speculative as a radiological weapon? The perception of the radiation health risks of such an attack are overstated by an uninformed public. Consequently, the true dangers lie not in the radioactive material, but the initial damage from the conventional explosive and the ensuing psychological and economic effects wrought by fundamental misunderstandings of radiological weapons.

The findings of several prominent analysts in the field state otherwise.

Thanks for the insight, Neville. Good thing your prognostication track record is impeccable.
It’s disingenuous to compare a potential hegemon such as Germany in 1939 to Iran in 2013, whose annual defense budget is less than 2% of that of the United States.

I bet their welfare budget is even smaller.

Speaking of prognostication, did I ever tell you, Push, about the last time I was in Washington DC?

It was July of 2001, I was in town for the big Sony convention at the Hilton, and as soon as the wheels hit the tarmac I had the most awful sense of foreboding, specifically about a terrorist attack. The whole time I was there I kept checking the exits, making sure I had my passport, a couple improvised weapons and all my cash on me, including a gold coin.

Turns out I was a few months early in my prognostication. So no, not impeccable.

I don’t get as funny a feeling about the Iranians as I do about this country. But I guess I could be wrong. Go figure.
