Why Does Everything Feel Heavy?

Hey Jim,

I think it goes without saying but, thanks for all the material you put out there. I’ve re-read through 5/3/1 (1st and 2nd Edition as well as 5/3/1 for Powerlifting) and was wondering if you would mind shedding some light on the matter.

As the subject line indicates, everything (i.e. working sets) feels heavy. To preface, I have (and am currently) running a higher frequency split and have found that every time I try to run a more sustainable program such as yours that all of the weights feel heavy if I am not regularly dealing with heavy percentages.

As it relates to my personal style of training, I’ve found volume and frequency to move my squat, heavy singles to work for my pressing, and so long as my squat goes up, so does my dead.

Any advice you or any fellow members have would be appreciated.

You just answered your own question.

Ha, ha. Thanks, Jim.

It sounds like you use different 5/3/1 templates for each lift. I think that’s a great idea. More lifters should do that.

Hey DanProsser,

I don’t actually do that currently but it is something I have found to work for me. What I am interested in is how I might go about structuring that within a framework of something like 5/3/1.
