Why Do People Refuse Facts?

I have and I couldn’t find it. But take solace in anyone arguing that Jack shit is the appropriate 5/3/1 program for hypertrophy is wrong, as those people seem to be thinking that the Jack Shit program is “5/3/1”, rather than a specific program.

It’s the juxtaposition of the title and content that’s so hard to comprehend. Difficult to take this much irony that far down one’s throat without gagging.

I just popped in here and I’m baffled as to why this is in the Off Topic section… Trying to have fun/argue while flying under the radar???

And just so I contribute to the discussion…

People run cookie cutter programs because they try their own stuff and fail. It takes years, if not decades, of training to learn your body well enough to know what it needs. Everyone is different. The things that help me get bigger and stronger are probably different than other people.

That may sound like an argument for self programming but the reality is that most people get it all wrong when they venture out on their own. They start majoring in the minors and lose sight of the basics. It’s like getting a custom paint job and body kit on a car but the tires are bald and the brakes don’t work.

At the end of the day people can still get results from following a cookie cutter program that progresses in some fashion on compound lifts.

Agreed. It just baffles me when people act like they’re an authority on something they know very little about. I like 5/3/1. I also like some of the stuff Paul Carter, CT, Waterbury, etc… put out and often times they contradict each other. That’s normal and should be expected because there is no one size fits all optimal program for strength, power, hypertrophy, fat loss, etc…

Honestly, I’m starting to think he is the ARX guy.

I’m just waiting for this to be linked to “Funniest Threads”.

Initially I was infatuated with 5/3/1 (like most), but it’s not my favorite program. The one thing I like about it is that it always used the big four lifts. I have lifetime gym goals that include the big three, but I often find myself doing programs that don’t emphasize them. It’s not wonder I haven’t reached my goals yet. If I get out of my own way and follow 5/3/1 then at the very least I will continue doing those movements and progress.

That being said, I’m not doing 5/3/1 right now. I’ll just make sure I continue to do the big three lifts in some fashion so I can continue to make progress towards my goals. For me, progress can even be maintaining strength. It really sucks when I ignore a lift for awhile and lose ground. I find myself working hard just to regain strength I once had instead of actually improving.

I wish. He’d be easier to ban then. As it is, there’s no real problem letting him embarrass himself while ignoring valid points and talking in circles.

On a related note, chicken parmesan is a low-fat food because when you set aside the fried breadcumbs and thick melted cheese, the base of it is chicken breast… which is low fat. This is a fact.

Am I doing it right?

The thing I’ve seen in my admittedly limited view of exercise/sport science is that there are plenty of findings and proof to back them up, but very few facts.

Trying to hang your hat on a fact in any field is just begging to lose it.

Agreed. All of my life-time 1RMs were reached using 5/3/1 and like you, I generally get in my own way.

Close. It would be more accurate if you said:

Know-it-all: Chicken breast just doesn’t meet my macro needs. There are no carbs for energy and the fat content is too low. That’s why I eat Steak Burrito Bowls w/ guacamole, Queso, and extra cheese.

Everyone: Ya know, chicken breast can be its own recipe, but almost every chicken recipe on the planet is more than just chicken. You can add other stuff like parmesan, thick melted cheese, and breadcrumbs to meet your macro requirement.

Know-it-all: But, I’m talking about the most basic form of chicken and it just doesn’t have the macros I need to optimize my diet. That’s a fact.

Okay, bro…

The best thing is it’s all over a joke I made that he didn’t get! Credit @Yogi1

Just do 5/3/1

I appreciated it, it nothing else. I think it also proved difficulty passing the turing test.

Speaking of which, Chipotle does sound fantastic right now.

Probably best to just all agree Chipotle is delicious and never speak of this again. Don’t try to disagree with me or I will bust out YouTube facts.

No way. Their curried chicken sucks, and their curried goat is made with beef. Hell, neither one of them even have any cumin or tumeric!

Turing test was flawed, if you didn’t have a throat full of his dick you would be able to see the facts. And that’s not offensive because I could mean a girls dick.

What a silly article. Who is this “Alan Turing” and why are they claiming he invented the Turing Test? Everyone knows it was Benedict Cumberbatch.

JT, you mentioned that you haven’t felt like your normal self lately, and are going through something difficult in your personal life, coping with some depression. Everyone can relate to that, at some point or another, so give yourself some time to cope with that. People who are depressed or unhappy often look for a fight where there isn’t one. We may not start a thread to do it, but… wink.

If you put up a training log or a contest prep log, write your own programs, follow a body-part split, talk aesthetics and hypertrophy, nobody is going to have any issue with you NOT doing 5/3/1. There are a few really experienced BBers here who could be helpful to you. That would be more fun, and a lot more productive, than trying to take on a bunch of people who likely have different goals, or arguing with men who have been training for 20 or 30 years now.
