Why Bulk?

LOL. Yes, this is THE dumbest thread all day. Please, show me the people who have gained more than 80lbs of lean body mass (after they have stopped growing in height) without ever bulking up to any degree…EVER.

When you do that, then we can have a discussion.
Just all day? You don’t give him enough credit.

Seriously, man?

X, I didn’t make my assumption based on a singular post seen here, rather a collection of impressions I’ve had whenever you have recommended the all-out mass gain route. If my assumption was wrong, you only need to correct it rather than receive it as an attack on what you’re saying.

People are picking on the OP for asking a question which he doesn’t understand. The only thing I don’t understand is why people can’t be helpful and would rather take the time to post insults to make themselves look good.

X, this is what I’ve gotten from your point(s) here and elsewhere. The only way to true mass is through extreme eating and training, forcing your body out of its comfortable bodyweight. Comfortable with the fat you may or may not have gained? Keep doing what you’re doing. As big as you’d like? Diet some fat away.

I had other questions, but I’m really just done with this thread. There’s no point if people aren’t going to even try to be helpful.

Dude, you haven’t been at T-Nation very long I’m guessing.

The only helpful sub forums are Strength Sports, Combat Sports, and CT’s sub forum.

My goal and mantra once I heal is “mo’ mass, mo’ mass, mo’ mass!!!” Till Im fucking throwing the 150s for anything and bound for Arlington to shake hands with Dobson. I apply what X man says. Abs are nice and I’m not planning on getting Michelin boy again but if I have to push 15% to crack 300lbs then so beat. I need a large foundation to work with because of my huge as frame. For me to cut down now and try to hold my own on stage, I’ll look like a bean pole and have my ass handed to me royally. I’d rather be the man out there that has a shot at a good placing if not taking the whole damn thing.

I can’t believe I wasted 2 minutes reading the op’s post and then another 20 seconds replying…

Want to Bulk AND have abs? BOOM, get yourself a set of Nasser Abs. Can see each one of those fucking soda cans of Abs through a good slab of fat Lol

mm just had my eggs and coffee, going to the gym to do quads/hams and shoulders, then come back have whole milk, mass gainer, banana before having rice and chilli concarn, i think thats how you spell it, hmm, then some more milk, some steak and pasta, some more milk and nuts, then a double whopper, a shake with evoo, peanut butter and then im going to bed. and waking up to do the same thing 2moro. i love being a student. and well… i love bulking. weight going up, lifts going up, measurements going up, confidence going up.

people thinking they can get huge without bulking…

priceless

thought it would be more useful to write a blog in here everytime someone writes a stupid thread like this. we can just be blog buddies

I disagree. This forum is helpful, just not when people troll dumb questions. Or ask about common sense stuff for the 6,000th time this week. (But these situations often lead to hilarity.)

Or when people come around shitting on the goals of those of us who want to be, ya know, swole.

DUDE, THIS IS THE FUNNIEST THREAD EVAAAA
Kanada wrote:
you cant eat your muscles bigger. if all you had to do was eat, there wouldnt be an obesity epidemic. no, all the world would be gradually gaining muscle at an alarming rate.

muscular stimulation is needed, and this is true for those tryin to gain weight and those trying to lose weight. the essential counterpoint to stimulation is recovery.

both those are readily accepted truths. but how food and muscles relate has intrigued me for some time. specifically, why is bulking overwhelmingly encouraged (at least on this board)? why can’t a trainee stay lean for every pound gained?

now, i do not discount food as an essential ingredient in gaining muscle, which is the goal of most trainees. note i didnt say gain weight. they dont neccessarily go together. red meat seems to be a food that encourages muscular growth, a notion i first came to believe through my research of history. the german “barbarians” who fought the roman legionaires were reputed to be far larger and more muscular than the average roman soldier, and roman historians claimed this was due to there judicious meat eating. whether or not that is true, it seems reasonable that eating meat will put meat on your bones. im not talkin chicken, but real meaty meat. like kangaroo.

so again, why bulk? if your eating anabolic food, working out intelligently, recovering, all that fun stuff, you shuold gain muscle. in fact, you couldnt not gain muscle. and eventually, after enough muscle gained, a trainee should weigh more that before. or less if the trainee was burning fat.

it just seems that if you do bulk, your just eatin because you like eatin. sure you are eatin the right foods, just more than you need. your workin out right, doin everythin right, but you are eatin more than you need. sure the extra pounds may help incraese leg size, especially you calves, but its not a neccessary piece of the pie. go ahead and try bulk. because after a bulk comes a cut. which means cutting calories, losing strength, etc. not ideal for muscular growth.

so, why bulk?
Facepalm.

For a bunch of bodybuilders and weightlifters we really spend too much time on forums.

i’m looking forward to chicken and rice w/ hot sauce, am i going to shrink tonight if i eat chicken and not red meat? My selenium and creatine levels are going to be markedly lowered, shit.

Gotta Eat, Gotta keep eating, eat till your full and eat some more, you need to …

Because when you eat a shit load of calories + carbs, you have energy to lift heavy crap, and then recover from it to lift some more. When you eat like a little bitch, you cant lift heavy crap and you overtrain with pussy weights and end up being a walking vagina.

X2 . When people ask questions that are not even related to bodybuilding but general fitness (over and over) what do you expect?

So…it looks like I missed a good one, huh?

Stupid fail thread is fail

Bullshit. If you come up with some off the wall statements that NO ONE HAS EVER FUCKING MADE as if we don’t want people to ever diet down or as if none of us ever diet down, you aren’t speaking of any “impressions” you’ve had. You are fucking lying just so you can have a point when it is clear you don’t have one otherwise.

My posts don’t need interpretation. If I didn’t write it then I obviously didn’t mean to say it. Debate what has actually been written. My guess is, if you actually did that, you would have quit posting a very long time ago.

Your “help” has been written too many times to count on this board. All you have to do is read.

Anyway, here’s a great recipe for some food that will put muscle on you, just so this thread isn’t a total loss/flame war…

1.5 lbs ground beef - use 80%, and drain the worst of the fat off…
1/2 onion
1 package fresh sliced mushrooms
3 cloves garlic
4 omega-3 eggs
1.5 cups brown rice
3 tablespoons peanut oil

Saute’ ground beef in 2 tablespoons peanut oil. Drain off fat.
Saute’ 1/2 onion, mushrooms and crushed garlic (use a garlic press) in 1 tablespoon peanut oil.
Cook rice.
Scramble the 4 omega eggs in a separate pan. I like to use pam and some smart-balance spread to cook them in.

Combine all cooked ingredients together in one pan/bowl. Add salt and pepper to taste, mix well and serve.

Go lift heavy weights, then eat more of this. Wash, rinse, repeat…
Good stuff, I’m definitely going to try it never had eggs like that.

Whenever I want to pack the calories in my go-to meal that is so quick and easy is this:

1 lb whole wheat pasta
~2 lbs ground beef
2 jars of whatever pasta sauce you like

Makes about 4 servings or so. Very caloric. For some reason I can always manage to make myself eat a lot of pasta.
