Why Bulk?

Hey, if you can put on 80+ pounds of mass without gaining an ounce of fat, then that’s wonderful for you.

For me - I bulked to get bigger. It was worth the fat gain to me to gain the size I wanted, and it’s worth the dieting down.

If you can make huge LBM gains without gaining any fat whatsoever, then you should do exactly that.

Do you have any pics of your progress? I’d be interested to see where you’re at… [/quote]

I think that is the point they are missing. Who the hell is gaining over 80lbs without ANY extra fat gain at all? Anyone here want to raise their hand to that?

Haha, wish I could raise my hand.
I agree with everyone here that it is easier to bulk and gain over a long period (years) and then cut down to the size that you desire. The cut will take infinitely less time than the bulk, which is a pro too. Look at power lifters like Dave Tate and Marc Bartley who cut down from their heavyweight size to a still big but shredded weight. You gotta suck it up and eat to gain.

LEFT4DEAD2!!!

dont take this wrong.

okay tho really OP my first post here was something stupid. I thought 3-4k a day was alot of food. And for ME at the time it was. I’d never paid attention to my food before. Anyway my point is that after a few dumb posts and learning I had some work to do to get it right, Ive sat back and been reading since then. Mostly looking up good posts by some of the more successful members here. From that I have answered a lot of stupid questions.= since then pro-x has yet to call another “zombie” hunt on my ass. so to speak.

believe it or not this question is answered a lot as well.

Eh - well you know…

I barely bother participating in these conversations anymore. Inevitably, some wit will just call me fat, and that’s only enjoyable for so long you know… ; )

But yea - once I stopped thinking 2000 cals a day was a lot of food, I started to get bigger and stronger. I did many, many things wrong training and nutrition-wise when I was younger, but the simple practice of pyramiding my weights up to a max work set w/low reps + eating plenty of good, healthy food and not being terrified of having a burger has worked extremely well in terms of gaining LBM.

Yup! My Pop’s aunt would make such an evil sweet potato pie for family reunions. May she rest in peace. All the women and her would bake like 40 of those things. I just fucking grabbed one when I made my way to them and ran away. Not too sweet but just fucking perfect.

Alright Prof X…I could tell some guys are getting frustrated by this question so i’ll leave with this.

I do understand the bulking concept just not the cutting. I want to get bigger and until i get to a weight I feel good about I’m technically bulking. Everything after that will just be maintenance. I just didn’t get why some guys pig out to gain weight then cut down the line. Why not eat enough and lift enough to gain quality weight so you won’t have to worry about a cutting phase.(thats excluding competitive body builders). Thats all i really wanted to know. I guess it’s a personal preference.

Dude, they call anyone without full abs showing “fat”. That is why that “all powerlifters are fat” thread gets so many views. These same newbs would call that guy fat if they saw him at his heaviest…as if he wasn’t carrying enough muscle as a result to diet down to a physique that most people will never reach in a lifetime.

I bulk up because I have gained more muscle as a result than anyone else on this board telling me how wrong it is. If that isn’t enough, then nothing is.

It is NOT just a personal preference. Why do you think I keep asking for pics of people who have gained as much lean body mass as I have without bulking up?
Do you think your body is going to allow you to SLOWLY gain 100lbs? It fucking will NOT. You will have to FORCE a gain like that and get your body used to much higher weight set points.

Why the fuck do any of you think we are just eating shit all day long for the hell of it? Most of my meals I cook myself so where is this notion coming from that the goal is to eat junk all day long?

There is a reason the guys who “gain slowly” very rarely ever get really big. Their bodies will not allow that much of a change without any periods where the body is simply getting used to a much heavier weight.

I remember this one time I was at a rave in Vegas and it was full of colorful candy ravers. Colorful man…I mean Skittles didn’t have shit on these motherfuckers! I was bulking at the time tipping the scale at 236 I think. So being that I was in Wonderland…I walked up to the nearest group of chicks covered in candy necklaces and what have you and just started going off with my glow sticks.

It was way past my meal time so when the DJ was driving the beats down I told em the best I could cuz I had several substances in my system at the time, “Hey, lets go to the bean bags cuz they feel good and so I can eat you guys!!!” They squealed something and we were on the bean bags while I ate all the candy and made out with 4 of them. I got my numbers in and I got laid!! CHAAAWW!!!

That answered my question…Thats all i wanted to know, the body needs to adapt to the weight. I think that could have been answered after my initial post rather than cursing me out…anyways thanx

P.S by pig out i didn’t mean junk food, it could have been grill chicken breast.

Why bulk?

Because you’re only 165lbs after 4 years of training.

poontang pie mother fuckas!

You should all be ashamed, this thread didn’t even deserve a response.

…Now I’m ashamed.

Prof X and ebomb are getting it right.

I do not put a big mark on my calender and say “ok I’ll bulk till then and start cutting after”. Many years of surplus calories with some maintenance periods in between is how it should be done. I have not done a single “cut” in my life but I still look good. Why? Small adjustments along the way.

Where the fuck is the fun in that?

Shit.

this guy doesnt repersent the thoughts of other canadians

haha

Bulking is a difficult and arduous long-term task. Kanada, just do my patented FATTENING system. I did it and it was easy. You too can join the vast majority of the populace in the developed/industrialized nations and get big by FATTENING.

Ha - yea, good point.

Anyway, here’s a great recipe for some food that will put muscle on you, just so this thread isn’t a total loss/flame war…

1.5 lbs ground beef - use 80%, and drain the worst of the fat off…
1/2 onion
1 package fresh sliced mushrooms
3 cloves garlic
4 omega-3 eggs
1.5 cups brown rice
3 tablespoons peanut oil

Saute’ ground beef in 2 tablespoons peanut oil. Drain off fat.
Saute’ 1/2 onion, mushrooms and crushed garlic (use a garlic press) in 1 tablespoon peanut oil.
Cook rice.
Scramble the 4 omega eggs in a separate pan. I like to use pam and some smart-balance spread to cook them in.

Combine all cooked ingredients together in one pan/bowl. Add salt and pepper to taste, mix well and serve.

Go lift heavy weights, then eat more of this. Wash, rinse, repeat…
