Why Are You Getting Strong

Strength, I just love the feeling. That’s why I do it.

I lift weights so I can carry all my grudges.

It started out for me because I was skinny, but that’s not a concern any longer, it’s all about strength now. By getting stronger you increase your capabilities in many areas of life.

Sometimes I wonder why I do it, then I think about how sweet it would be to have the lower body strength to dunk a basketball, or the power to punch through a wall, or in an emergency be able to carry a few unconcious people out of a burning building. Also being able to lift multiple times my bodyweight(Eventually) sounds like fun. Thoughts like these keep me going.

The feeling you get when you hit the new PR on Bench/Squat/Deads.
The looks you get from others be it walking into a room or walking down the street.
The feeling of the iron in your hands and the sweat rolling down your face.
The soreness, the aches, pains, and the constant “Why do you lift so heavy if it hurts?” questions.
Because if I don’t do just one more rep, the other guy will.
I forgot a long time ago exactly why I started but I know every day why I still do.

First of all I love to train.
I’m 49.
I started in my teens for health because I was feeling like I would deteriorate if I never exercised. Strangely wise at that age but true.

Later in my 30s I took up bodybuilding for the fun of looking great and muscular.

I also noticed later that girls (all ages)crave lean muscular men but there are very few around so I decided then to get more intense about it for that reason. Just being pragmatic and having fun training.

You dont have to be pro-bodybuilding size, but you DO have to be muscular and defined or you get seen as weak, “nice…but no chemistry”,and the hot ones will just pass on you.Tough but true.

There is also a great sense of confidence because you KNOW you are one of the rare few who have IT, as far as girls go. and you have energy to go on all day without getting tired. You also dont get sick, unless you start overtraining.

It is also incredible for personal morale to look in the mirror at 49-or any age-and see the incredible sight of the human body as it is intended to look by nature. Strong, vibrant, all the muscles clearly delineated like those antiquity statues or the gods and real life athletes and warriors.

So you can say there is also narcisism involved, but why not? Let’s not forget that to be able love somebody we have to love and honor ourselves first. Our oustside appearance is caused by our inside personality and soul…If we dont love who we are we are not going to be much fun to be around…and we do have to cultivate strong character traits , man or woman, to get a killer body.

It makes life great to be able to have that at 49 and the future looks awesome too!

Cause those damn weights are lazy don’t lift themselves.

I’m 55 years old. I’ve lifted on and off most of my life but never squatted or benched until 2 years ago.
After shoulder surgery, I gained 20 lbs, had a gut, skinny arms and thighs and was incredibly weak.
First squat of 110 lbs was ‘heavy’.
I’ve been lifting WS style since.
Feels great to be strong, seeing fat disappear, muscle size grow, PRs go up.
It makes me feel good about myself, both the accomplishments and the ‘worked-out’ feeling after I lift.
I’m also quicker, more agile, more powerful and feel much younger.

Thats a good one Jesus

When I was a could I started biting my nails. I was in 4th grade. I’m not sure what triggered it , but I started biting my nails. I then realized that I could reach my feet, and started biting my toenails. It was just easier for me, I dodn’t have to drag out the nailclippers and, when I bite, the ends don’t go flying everywhere. Plus, I just don’t like the feel of clippers breaking through my nails.

Anyway, I’m a lot older now, and I can’t reach my toes anymore.
