My dad’s been doing it for 2 years now … he loves it. Keeps him in decent shape. I think a lot of people on this site need to realize that what some of us do (because it’s become obvious to me that not everyone on this site actually lifts with any kind of passion) isn’t everyone’s cup o’ ramen.

Yeah, I think a lot of the people on this site would be better off doing P90XYZABC than they are doing whatever it is they are doing (nothing?).
It’s nothing compared to my program Towel-X where you get a towel and do chins and deadlifts with it.
Just send $199.95 to my paypal account for details.
Kit will include towel and a spreadsheet printout of the excercises.
For $99.95 extra I’ll throw in a program for incorporating a snuggie into your workouts.

There is nothing wrong with Crossfit or P90X. They do not produce the same results as powerlifting or body building training, but they are not after the same goals either.
Both Crossfit and P90X do cause people to lose fat, build muscle (even if it isn’t pro-bodybuilding slabs of it)and attain above average general fitness levels.
I’ll take an avid crossfitter over fat betty any day.
And, judging by your avatar, Crossfit and P90X could both probably teach you a thing or two. So could elementary school gym class.
Why do people, and not just you, act as if they are above a certain training method when followers of said training method are clearly stronger, bigger and in better shape?
Don’t compare them to Ronnie Coleman. Compare them to you.

First of all, it’s a joke. Secondly, I couldn’t care less about what you think of the shape I’m in.
You’re right that I’d rather see someone do crossfit or P90X than nothing.
There are people who are in better shape than I, and even you, who don’t even lift at all. Have you ever met anyone who does crossfit? I’ve met one retard [who, for the record, wasn’t anything to write home about, physique-wise] who thought crossfit was the end-all-be-all to fitness. THAT’s the shit that puts me off to it.

P90x gets a bad rap because it is on TV. Actually, it is a pretty solid program.
It has classic bodyweight exercises like standard push-ups, hindu pushups, pike presses (you can sub hand stand presses), plyo-pushes (feet and hands leave the ground), chin-ups, wide pull-ups, and corn-cob pull-ups. Throw on weight vest (or a backpack with books in it) and you can make these pretty damn challenging when you consider in a typical routine you might do 300 push-up variations and 300 pull-up variations.
On the arms day, you use dumbells for things like hammer curls, curls, preacher curls, shoulder flys, and tricep extensions.
Legs revolve mostly around one legged actions like one-legged deadlifts and one-legged wall squats. You can add a weight vest to these to toughen them up. Also you use dumbells for lunges and calf raises.
All this coupled with plyometrics, yoga, and other forms of cardio, you get a pretty good workout. Is it going to give you a bodybuilder’s body? Probably not. Is it going to put on some muscle and take off some fat, definitely. If you increase the weight on the dumbells you can get some pretty get arms though.
Most P90xers don’t have a great chest because of the lack of resistence, but everything else is pretty good.
Here is a link to one of the guys from the message board. Pretty good transformation if you ask me.

Check out the seventh picture.
I think it’s great if you’re fat or if you’re just looking to get into “normal good shape” (I don’t know how else to describe that.)
I was normal when I did it. I wasn’t really fat, but naked I looked like a woman who had a child and I wasn’t happy about that.
I got really good at doing the program, and then my thighs got bigger. Not really worth it for me, but I can see how it would melt some lard off a heavy person.

Yes. A good buddy of mine. He is 165 lbs and I’ve watched him bench 365, squat 450 and dead 400.
He benches about fourty more lbs than me but the rest of our lifts are on target except I weight 215 lbs.
I am decent with chins, dips and other body weight exercises but he does chin up circles around me. I sprint, jog, do plyometrics etc and he does those things better too.
And, he has a lower body fat percentage.
He attributes all but his strength to cross fit.
He did lift weights and still does to build his lift strength but says crossfit has definitely made a difference. Pushed him over plateaus, helped him recognize strength gains faster in general etc.
I believe him. Look at the program exercises and intensity and there is no reason not too.
For some reason it is really cool to hate crossfit on this site, but it is a solid method of training no doubt.
Any one who knows anything about training knows that a healthy cardiovascular system increases successes in the weight room and cross fit (cross training, not a new concept) does an excellent job of training the cardio system.
And building strength, albeit not powerlifting strength.
Also, eat a steak and deadlift some more. At least look like you weight train before you bash cross fit.

Talking about how great your friend is just sounds like a poorly disguised reason to talk about how great you are.
So aside from being strong, which he admitted he reached his level of strength by lifting weights (not in a CF manner), what’s so great about him? He’s agile? He’s lean? (PS, just because he has a lower BF percentage than you doesn’t mean anything. For all we know, he got fatter after he started CF but he’s still at 8% which is lower than yours.)
So he still lifts weights in a non-CF manner to keep his strength up? Does that tell you anything?
When did I say it didn’t? When was crossfitting the only way to get a solid cardiovascular system?
Says the guy who’s never posted a picture of himself on this website.
If you’re so supportive of crossfit, why haven’t you started doing crossfit workouts?

Talking about my friend was in response to your direct question wondering if I know anyone who does crossfit.
Yes he built the strength levels he has through traditional weight lifting means. There are plenty of crossfitters who only do crossfit and are stronger than most, and bigger than you. Through crossfit alone. The numbers he puts up are higher than most people who train by philosophies widely utilized here as well.
He still lifts in a non crossfit manner because yes, his strength levels are maintained at a higher level than crossfit would provide. You and many on this site would still benefit greatly from crossfit from a muscle building perspective alone, as well as the cross training benefits. Crossfit still builds strength and muscle, more than you have. Don’t compare to my friend, or Ronnie Coleman, only to you. Or better yet someone pre and post crossfit as the only means of training who actually does it at full intensity as intended.
The incessant bashing of crossfit is ridiculous. I’m not a major supporter of it and I don’t do it because frankly I’m lazy. I know it would be much harder at full intensity than a weight training session and a few miles around the track with some jump roping thrown in.
It’s just annoying to see people, especially underdeveloped people, bash anything because they heard someone else bash it and they want to fit in. Don’t knock it til you try it. I would bet it puts you, and me, on our asses. And my stats are accurate. And I have posted pics. You just haven’t seen them apparently.
You do realize crossfit utilizes weight training methods and weighted dips, chins etc right? Cross training is all it really is and cross training is a wonderful thing. With or without the crossfit title.

Are you 165 lbs?
I remember a post where you say you are over 200.
RRJC is not.
And, when you start to hit plateaus, I do believe it will help push you over the edge by bringing your cardiovascular level up to speed, which often times can be a limiting factor.
Occasionally I check their site out of curiosity. Sometimes they do have some wacky looking shit going on.
One day’s workout however consists of 20 pull ups, 30 push ups, 40 sit ups and fifty squats for five rounds timed.
This means no breaks between I believe.
And I think when a weighted exercise such as squats are utilized, you use a weight you can complete the task at hand with. You are also to perform weighted dips and push ups if you can complete the round with out.
For many, 5 rounds of fifty squats would be body weight. Which makes crossfit look stupid. ( Though I would imagine 250 body squats would be difficult in it’s own rite)
If you can do it with 20,30,50,100 or what ever amount of weight, then do it.
Hell, if you can do 250 squats at 100 lbs, total weight lifted would be 25000 lbs. Divide that by 30 reps for three sets of ten and you are lifting 833 lbs 30 times.
Sure, 100 lbs doesn’t increase strength like heavy sets do and dividing the weight out isn’t the same as actually lifting 833 lbs but you can bet your ass that many reps (intensity) would increase your endurance like no other, helping you break plateaus and gain strength faster than before, not to mention muscle fatigue and growth stimulation.
Same goes for days with weighted dips, deadlifts and even olympic lifts, which they do utilize.
If your goal is to be a powerlifter or pro bodybuilder, will crossfit alone do it for you? No.
If you want to break past 165 lbs on what looks to be a tall frame, meaning no muscle mass, will crossfit do it? Absolutely.
Will it aid in bigger gains for the average and even elite lifters?
Absolutely.
Will it take a fat betty and make her sexy? Yes.
It does work on multiple levels. The key is to do it at your threshold, which many people probably back away from.
And looking at a beginner as the model crossfitter is like looking at RRJC as the model bodybuilder. Which is bullshit. There are some strong crossfitters.
It is simply cross training, though very intense, packaged in a neat little marketing box that sells well, largely due to the movie / advertisement 300 initially and now because it does work and word of mouth spreads like wildfire.
It is not a new principle or fad. Cross training is a staple to athletics and body building when used properly.
Hell, I probably will try it, just to put my money where my mouth is. I will tell you though, the idea of 250 squats for time scares me.
Yes, I will maintain regular weight lifting programs too, crossfit will be a supplement, but I am already a 215 lb 10% body fat ex-athlete with sports including football, baseball, basketball and wrestling over the years.
My training has been cross fit (cross training) essentially and it has worked.
A 165 lb bean stalk would build new muscle on crossfit alone I would imagine.

I look a hell of a lot bigger than your boyfriend in his pics.
Because I am.
That is an xxl t-shirt.
I do look small next to the guy beside me.
He was a collegiate shot putter in the Big 12 conference. He is a very large guy.
My stats are accurate. Take them for what you will. I am no pro body builder or pler, but I am bigger than your beau, rrjc and most people.
I know it and you know it so if you are going to try to get back at me because I think you are ugly you will have to do it in another way.
I would like to add another 20 or 30 lbs but I just don’t have the time or energy.
Edit, bigger than you. I forgot you guys were being cute with your pictures.
When you catch up you can start talking.
yeah, i can see how chicks would benefit from it. it would give a chick a good athletic looking body. but i think for men its really a waste of time. if you want to just be 170 pounds w/ abs then go for it. thats not what i want though but i cant really knock someone for wanting to look that way for the same reason they cant knock how i look/want to look.
but i cant control the emasculated feeling you get weighing 170 pounds when someone 220 walks by you. all of a sudden your abs arent so hot, and thats coming from experience of being the 170 pound guy.
