Who Works Out At Your Gym?

I just joined a new gym in the DC area and noticed soon after that Robert Kreider works out there too, every day, at about the same time I do. I introduced myself to him today. He was genuine, took the time to chat for a bit, and even offered to help me with any questions I might have. I plan to watch his career more closely now that I’ve met him. Here’s a photo:

So what national-level competitors or pros work out at your gym?

I wish… That would be so fucking cool.

Desmond Miller works out at a gym I used to to go. Vlad Azelhov (powerlifter) also works out there.

I used to see a lot of amateurs (can’t remember names) and a few pros when I occasionally went to Bev Francis’ Powerhouse in Syosset, Long Island. I saw Kevin English there a bunch of times.

LL Cool Jay works out at the gym I go to now, which I’ve gone to on and off for the past 11 years.

Wow. I guess it helps to live near NYC. Desmond Miller is awesome!

Kreider seems much bigger in person by the way. I remember that was true for most of the well-known competitors I saw at the Arnold when I was there. Seems strange somehow.

They do look bigger in person. It’s one thing to see these people in magazines; it’s another thing to see them in person. Pros and top-ranking amateurs are fucking enormous! I saw Dorian Yates and Steve Weinberger shopping at a mall in Long Island about ten years ago. They were in a hat store, and people were looking at Dorian as if they couldn’t believe a human being could be that muscular. He was wearing a loose fitting T-shirt.

I remember when I first saw Desmond walk into that gym I used to go to. I didn’t know who he was at the time because I wasn’t keeping up with pro bodybuilding so closely at the time, despite training hardcore. He hardly ever wore a tank top; he usually wore a long-sleeve t-shirt. Despite him being fully clothed, I said to myself, “Who… the fuck… is that?!” He’s just unbelievably big!

I’ve seen Dave Palumbo around at a bunch of different places, not competing all the time though: New York Pro, Night of Champions, a night club in Long Island, a gym. He’s just freaky!

Who else have I seen in person, up close (not on a stage)? Frank Sepe, Jay Cutler, Monica Brandt, Colette Nelson, and a few others I can’t recall right now.

I’ve since switched gyms,
but when I first came to America, JP Fux went to my gym. (he seemed normal enough)

Not a flattering pic, but it’s the one that got him famous in bodybuilding circles.

damn thatd be sick to work out with some top guys, or at elast have them around and ask some questions. motivation!

It’s actually in Alexandria, VA. A new place that opened earlier this year called XSport Fitness (they are based in IL, but have places in different cities). Kreider said he really liked the place (he’s been there for a while apparently). It’s open 24/7, dumbells up to 150, plenty of benches, good free weights, and most every machine there is.

I assume you were not there when he crashed and burned? I saw a video of that. Amazing. He tried to compete after recovering from that, but quickly got out of it. He was one of the mass monsters. I know he’s from Switzerland–did he have a thick accent like Arnold?

what street in alexandria? is it off Duke or King Street?

I’ve seen Ken Jones at my gym recently. He’s getting up there in age and isn’t ‘top anything’ but it’s pretty cool to see a pro bodybuilder walking around. He’s about 5’5.

Old video I think

Edited

Miller’s actually training at my gym these days. In fact, he’s now running the ‘juice’ bar -lol (sorry, couldn’t help it). We’ve been through a zillion ‘juice bar guys’ in the last couple of years, I guess the gym owners figure it’ll look better with an ex-pro behind the counter (although it’s kinda sad to see his competition pics next to how he looks now)… Hell of a nice guy though.

S

a guy that took ninth place at Junior Pro Nationals in 2008 in the super heavyweight division, he did the NPC USA’s superheavy in 09’ but an infection in his leg kind of screwed him up a bit, although his condition was pretty good.

that said in his online contest pics he appears to need bigger arms, thicker legs, just more thickness chest and otherwise…the NPC USA and other big shows are brutal because this guy is HUGE, e.g. 285-305 off season and he’s still not big enough proportionally to stand out when he’s in contest shape.

our gym has BD’s up to 165lbs + a pair of 200’s, i’ve seem him do working sets, incline w/ 165’s, yet he’s not big enough…kind of a mind fuck.

our gym owner is a former Mr. America 1984 and we’ve got a few PL setting state and national records for their class…it’s not a bad place to lift.

Hidetada trains at my gym pretty consistently. He trains around mid day though so I usually don’t see him too often.

Saw him pretty much every day in the weeks leading up to this years Olympia though.

Also saw Joel Stubbs in there, but he was in just to work on posing with Milos. Wasn’t training.

She used to work (as a trainer) and train at the gym near my house. I’d occasionally see her training but usually I just saw her working. She also wore really tight pants, which was a huge distraction, especially when she was squatting. She was wider than 80% of the guys at the gym. I don’t think she works there anymore since I didn’t see her the last time I was in that gym, which is kind of sad.

Other than that, almost everybody else is pretty pathetic, which is sad. This isn’t a surprise considering it is a Bally’s. I need to find a better gym when I’m back home. Anyone recommend any in the Queens area?

I suppose you are more likely to see the top guys in California gyms than anywhere else. I thought Hidetada still lived in Japan, but obviously not. Joel Stubbs is a favorite–he’s so massively huge. I know he’s a pilot. It would be cool to be a passenger on one of his routes.

Anybody know of a Persian/Middle Eastern Body builder that lives in So Cal? Ive seen this fucken big guy at my Gym he has Tribal tatoos on his chest, soo if you got any names of them or pics post! I really want to find out who he is.
