I am in law enforcement, so I carry most of the time. In my personal opinion and experience, it’s the small percentage of people in society that don’t need to be carrying a weapon. For the most part, the folks I encounter who do have a weapon are decent people who either love guns, or feel that they need to have one for personal protection at all times.
I am super pro-gun, and I would roll over and want to die the day that we as a nation take that right from the people.
I carry Concealed. I have a permit in many states.
I used to carry concealed quite often. Now living the suburban life with kids I don’t bother.
I don’t go anywhere that I feel the need to carry.

That is good to hear. As I have gotten older I have taken an extremely poor view of law enforcement as a whole, so it is comforting to see that you aren’t all bad. I open carry most anywhere including in shorts and flip flops and the local cops aren’t too happy about it.
They tend to have more of an elitist attitude as if they should be the only ones able. I think this is largely due to the fact that Moscow is something of a hippie town what with the college and all. Most people just say I should concealed carry but I’d prefer not to register for a “right” as it seems hypocritical.

oh i am sure most of you know i have a cc permit. i carry my 1911, it’s not designed for it due to it’s size. it is the kick-assenest pistol EVER, i wouldnt trade it for any other handgun(unless it was another 1911 of course). here is my baby now.
oops, thats not mine. well it’s the same model, but it’s stock. mine is not stock, i’m not gonna list all the stuff. i’ll try and find the right pick
I do. However, I just found out that since I’ve been in Iraq, the Army commander in Alaska (where I am from) has made it illegal for any active duty soldier assigned to Alaska to carry concealed (with or without a permit), period. Off post, on post, the guys who live off post, the guys who have state issued carry permits, everybody.
The state just recently passed a great law, which (the way I understand it) makes it legal for any non-criminal to carry concealed without a permit.
So my choice is go without or carry open. Very frustrating.
After 2 tours in Iraq and 19 years in uniform swearing oaths to uphold and defend the Constitution, I don’t get to enjoy the rights given to me under it.

Yeah, I heard about that jackass. You aren’t really alone though, no one gets to enjoy the rights of the Constitution anymore unless you “break” the law. I recommend strongly that you consider open carrying. Concealed carry is concealed culture and concealed culture is a dying culture.

I would think having kids would want you to carry even more than before. Having the ability or at least the option, to protect them if you have to. I would definetely consider that one of the best reasons to continue to exercise your carrying a portable life saver.
Again, ‘feeling the need’ if i knew when i would need my pistol, i would only bring it on that day. Unfortunately assholes/bad guys/criminals dont make appointments, so its every day where i can.

I’m in Law Enforcement also and carry concealed most of the time OD. Here in CA CCWs are not just given out to anyone so it’s mostly dirt bags who are carrying. In my area, drugs are really prevalent. Where there’s drugs there’s guns. Good times!

Alittle off topic here, but I have always wanted to ask a California cop if he’s ever given a ticket to someone for not wearing their seat belt and if he felt good about it. I am not looking for a fight, I am genuinely curious if CA cops feel that is what they should be doing.

yeah, i had to take a bitch ass course(at my cost), see a psych. for an evaluation(at my cost of course), and show that i deliver narcotics to all sorts of fun neighborhoods. plus the police chief has to personally approve your app. time, money, and patientce.seems to be a pretty high cost so you can protect yourself.
to top it all off, if you go through that in your state california will not accept your ccw. california is one of two cities that only recognizes it’s own permits. i forget who the other is, i’m thinking ny but dont quote me.

Sorry, but I’m Federal. Supervisory Border Patrol Agent. I can carry anywhere in the US with my creds.
Like you though, I disagree with seatbelt laws and helmet laws for anyone over the age of 18. Adults should be allowed to make these decisions for themselves.

CA is the worst state in the Union. I won’t leave my job, but I would pounce on the opportunity of promotion in another state.

A few years ago when I moved from Massachusetts (where I had a licence to carry for sporting purposes) to New Hampshire, I went to the local NH police department to find out what process I needed to go through in order to carry. The response I got from the licensing officer was, and I quote:
“Son, this is New Hampshire. You can wear the gun on your head if you want to. But if you want to carry concealed, here’s an application. Unless you have some big skeletons in your closet, we generally issue the license”.
To be precise, New Hampshire is a shall issue state. Unless you have some very specific skeletons in the closet, the licensing official must issue the license. By the way, the right of the INDIVIDUAL to keep and bear arms is in the NH constitution.
“All persons have the right to keep and bear arms in defense of themselves, their families, their property, and the state.”

And I always thought NH was a Liberal State. I wonder if there are any BP stations there.
