Who Is Bulking?

Not to single you out, but I will use this post as an example.
To gain 30 pounds in 6 months is definitly doable but then you say you will cut for Summer. I don’t know what your exact plan is but the point of bulking is to then MAINTAIN that weight for a while and let your body adapt and put on some muscle. Maintain for a few months then cut s-l-o-w-l-y to preserve muscle and just lose the fat. You don’t want to go on a severe cutting diet because you will just be back to where you started- wilth little or no muscle gain. Not to healthy, the yo-yo diet thing, either. I see a lot of people make this mistake.
Curious how most people bulking plan on coming off the bulk phase.

Matt

From 164lbs to 184lbs in 3 months… and I’m a lacto-vegetarian [no meat/fish/eggs] and 4-6 litres of 1% milk/week at most. 3000-3500 calories/day + 220-ish gms of protein/day-5’11", and a bit of a belly.First 2 months were slow in gaining but lately the big gains seems to have a mind of its own.

You’re right and I’ve never done that. I would attempt to either hold a certain weight or cut back on calories to gain slower for a few months before beginning to diet.

I know what you mean but for me it was I never really had an appetite and I skipped substantial breakfasts alot… before. Now I’m more nutritious conscious and a full brekkie is a must for me. One trick you could focus on is finding/creating recipes for nutritious-packed meals that are irresistably tasty for you personally.

I plan on bulking past my bulking-goal weight, then cut down.

If I want to bulk to 200 pounds before cutting, I can bulk to 215, and then my body will have been at or above 200 for a few months (assuming it will take a few months to go from 200-215).

Then, if I cut without maintaining my 215, I might loose the 15 pounds that I just recently gained, but that’s okay because the goal is to be 200 before cutting.

I don’t consider the last 15 pounds that I put on as a waste of time because I still would have used that time to maintain the 200.

I will FINALY be bulking hardcore starting monday. My volleyball season ends this sunday after Ontario Championships. I was never cutting (because why cut at 18? no point) but wasn’t able to bulk up very much because of all the practices and games we were doing (at least 4 or 5 practices at week plus games and tournaments). Howver come monday food and weights will be my best friend.

Certainly you are joking?? Please tell me that you are joking…

I was out of the gym for almost 7months due to a broken hand. I did some dumbell training for 2 weeks and this week started Waterbury Method. Last year I dropped from 235 to 195in 3 months due to the Fire Academy. I’m currently sitting at 200 lbs. I’m following Berardi’s Massive Eating along with Waterbury Method and hope to see some gains. I will be cycling other CW programs after WM,and continue Massive Eating.

I’ve already noticed a shift in fat to LBM andsome size in less that three weeks into Massive Eating and 1 week into WM. Lemme say this workout is pretty tough but you feel awesome as you start recovering. I will be bulking for a long time to come. The goal will be to get up to around 240-250 lbs of LBM. I’m 5 foot 10. Time to get hyyoooggeeee again.

Hey all:

Happy Thanksgiving.

I fairly new to this lifting program, going on a little better then two years. Making good gains. I’m older but more determined. This site is the best I’ve found for information and much input.

Anyway, I was always around 185 ish, cut way back last summer, and ended around 175. Was thin but felt weak. Was running 5k’s alot and lifting some. Lately I’ve flipped. Slowed down on the running, still some but the lifting has changed. Heavy. I began bulking towards the end of summer and have reached the top, at least for me. 205 at around 5’09. The biggest I’ve ever been. Still strong and look ok except for the pot belly. Kind of scares me.

I’ve, within the past few months tried V-diet but just can’t cut it yet. I’m at least for NOW, done with bulking. How do YOU’s cut. Thats what I want to know. I eat ok, chicken, fish and can watch what I eat ok. Just the large gut scares me and I want to get back to around 190 or 185 and stay strong and keep what I have.

Send Help

Your lucky Professor.x didnt see this, 136 is way too small for cutting on your frame, im 5’10" also, do a clean bulk, get some good info off Dr John berardis articles like massive eating, get up to around 180 then you can cut if you want to, and eat whole foods where possible.

There will be one problem later though, you will have to buy new clothes because your old ones wont fit.

Dude, I’m sorry, but you don’t know what you’re talking about.

I’m one of the biggest guys in my gym and i placed third in a powerlifting meet in the ‘shrugs’ category. You’re just jealous and shit.

Did you mean you will cut and 136 kilograms or pounds?.

I’m just trying that out for the first time now since I used to yo-yo diet all the time. As others have commented it hurt my progress more than facilitated it.
I’m currently trying out a maintenace with some low-intensity cardio (walking or bike-riding) and some HIIT training.

If you only gained 8 pounds in 4 months WHILE training and eating right, I don’t see where you’d have much to cut.

You say that you’re “eating everything in sight”, but do you know that are you actually eating enough (and good enough micronutrient breakdown)?

I started bulking, I read it on this website forgot who wrote it, he also wrote about the pop tarts, I started doing what he said and also substituded weight gainers and protein shakes, and went from 146- 157 in 4 weeks. a lil stomach, but losing is very easy for me, with my fast metabolism.
I am 5 feet 9 1/2 and 19.
People are seeing the difference I like it.
Dave Barr… ha ha or Dave Tate… ya im also bulking cleanly its weird… i was undereating for so long and i have been gaining fat hopefully with some added muscle just trying to get my calories up to my maintance today i decided i was just going to start eating my maintance and lifting hard and see what happens… ive gained from 162 to 181 in like 2 months and i just wanted to report the inaccurace of the tanica bf electro testers

i took weight and bf this mourning and was at 181.5 with 15.6% bf then to hours and one massive dump later i was 177 pounds at 14.3 pounds… it might just be my scale because at the gym i am still around 11 to 13% and thats on the normal setting… having lifted for 4 or 5 years and just being out of highschool i deffinately have an athletes frame and when on the athlete setting i am sub 10% more like 8% which is definately wrong having barely visible abs (bulking) but i still dont see really what the difference between normal and athelete would change if the machine was truly messuring bf though electron impulse?/

I’ve been trying to bulk for… 18 years now (I am 18 years old, by the way). I’ve been trying to get more weight my whole life and especially the 3 years that I’ve lifted weights. I’ve went from 110 pounds to 150 pounds (5’9") and I’m still trying to add at least 20 pounds.

Bulking is hell. I had to take a couple of weeks off a while ago due to total loss of appetite, and I lost about 5 pounds. Yay me! I’m slowly upping my calories again and may even be reintroducing breakfast soon. I hate eating. Hate hate hate hate.
WTF i could eat eat eat until i F***** Died i love food i love it abS :)olutely love itbut it i want the Abs part i have to deprive myself constantly trying to keep my binges sub thousand calories i guess we all have our vices… you have a hard time growing and im trying not to grow to fast… dont you hate those dudes that have the appetite right at bulking for muscles with min fat gain… then come cutting they just have to say nah i think ill skip that last pop tart
