I’m doing my first comp in spring, unequipped apart from knee wraps and was just wondering what sort of numbers any of you have seen or hit yourself in a similar comp, as I am completely new to the sport I’ve no idea what’s decent, hopfully I’ll be competing in 220’s.
Hey Man where abouts is it ?
Is it the Junior or Master Competition ?
I was looking at the Facebook Page for Powerlifting Ireland not to many available for 1st timers.
If its in Dublin or the South i will be available to go look anyways and help if you need.

It’s in the north not sure of exact location but wud imagine it be close to belfast cos apparently that’s the centre of the universe! Not too sure of your numbers even though I’m a first timer for 220’s I was thinking somewhere around 1400 but maybe this is my beginner mouth talking shit!
PS: From what a Lady on Facebook advised 200/300/400 would be a good standard in regards to Bench/Squat/Deadlift so that would be a good aim to start at.
I’m doing the Alabama State on 2-12 which will be my first. Assuming I don’t cripple myself I’ll proably do Georgia State and one of the Tenn ones too.

Hey BB… you already know this, but… started powerlifting 2.5 years ago as rehab after a serious auto accident.
BB’s better half and Meat talked me into competing, and glad I listened to them… love it!
Competed 3 times RAW, 2 in the CPU and one unsanctioned (Police/ Firefighter meet)… Masters (44 yrs old) at 275.
First meet was a push/ pull… If I remember correctly my bench was 355 and deadlift was 620…
Second meet was also a push pull… bench was a 365 and deadlift was 635…
Third meet was a full 3 lift meet, I think my squat was 500… and then I bombed on bench…
Now getting ready for the 2011 season
and who do you have to thank for the 620 pull and the blown eyes? Okay you pulled it but we told them to put it on the bar :)
Definitely you darlin’!
You… amd Meat… are the reasons I am where I am today… and your better half lit a fire under my ass in Burlington at Andy’s meet…

I’m doing the same one on 2-12 potentially.
Dixie, it’s in Arab, AL to be specific.

Jesus nice starting total for your 1st competition !
If you find out a date and time would be PM me, wouldn’t mind watching another one up close.
Best of luck with the training for it.
The one i was looking at is in Limerick in December 2011 Squat/Deadlift minus the bench.
I was also informed theres one in June but no exact time.
really! I thought 1400 wud be a decent target for a 220 especially with knee wraps and I am by no means& expert and don even consider myself to be close to strong

Aye probably not for you
For someone starting out ala me well that is a huge amount !
Bars in my current Gym can only take 250 KG’s you’d be breaking bars pretty much if you went much beyond that total !
I don’t post often so forgive me if I haven’t responded. I have lifted in the CPU for quite a few years. My best total single Ply is 600kg@75kg. My best lifts are 220kg squat, 167.5kg bench, 215kg Deadlift @ 52yrs old. My numbers are not fantastic by any means, but I train, lift, and live with the constant thought of how to get better in my sport. I don’t care how you lift, or in what fed you lift because I can put myself in your shoes. The feelings on the platform are the same when you win and the same when you lose.
My question was to find out who the lifters were, because I was getting the feeling that there were many that posted who considered their lifting as Powerlifting, but in actuality were just training bodybuilding style, and considered themselves as Powerlifters.
Don’t get me wrong here. I think that being or training as such is fine, but it does not qualify as powerlifting. For me to see some posts that want help with sticking points on what really are accessory lifts just doesn’t make sense. No powerlifter would post in the bodybuilding forum about shirt or squat suit issues so why this stuff on a Powerlifting forum?
I would like to see logs from lifters here that have stepped up to give their info and lifts. If anything, new lifters could get some ideas on how things go for us on a day to day cycle.
Knsnap, I love my fucking pullups and chins as well, not to mention my dips and rows, I don’t think I would E-mail louis Simmons if for some reason any of those excercises were not going up. If my squat bench or dead fall apart then I have a problem.

I’ll add in some more from what 2 scoops said, by saying that IF EVERYONE WASN’T SUCH A RAW FUCKING ZEALOT, WE WOLD HAVE MORE GOOD PEOPLE TO HELP. You ran away Stronghold, Hanley, I never see Lattimer post on here, and Jason Pegg is gone!

Hey! You forgot me on that list Stronghold and Pegg are my bitches
Gimme a break. Do you think this is because everyone truly is a “raw zealot”, or because there are just a huge amount of douchebags on this site?
Take this thread for example, there are a lot of respected members here who compete raw and geared, and I have a hard time picturing any of them disparaging those who choose to compete in a manner other than themselves…
The problem isn’t that people are screaming that gear whores are bad, the problem is that the same people who are screaming that are fucking idiots in all manner of their communication…
True, very true, I never looked at it like that, but it’s getting to the point where if you dont lift in the IPF, or god forbid, dont go 11 inches below parallel, GTFO. This is what I see, everyone bashes multy ply lifters. There is getting to be alot of douche nozzels on this forum.
I did my first contest in 2007 ( might have been late 2006, I can’t remember) I competed raw at 242 and went 425-350-540
Since then I’ve won AAPF state meets ( all multi-ply) I won at the 2009 AWPC Worlds, and I’ve competed in the APF, UPA, one or two ANPPC, AFPF… I mostly stick to APF meets now, but I might do an SPF and UPA meet this year…
Best lifts in a meet to date are:
881-squat
606-bench
625-deadlift
2055-total
I’ve done a lot of work this year so I’m looking for my first 2300 total. We’ll find out in March at the APF IL State Meet.
I lurk on here a lot, but don’t post often for 2 reasons… 1- I’m not that strong, you want to know how to bench ask Luyando… that’s who I ask ( or Lattimer since he’s on here) and 2- I’ll help anyone out who asks for help, but I don’t care if you lift RAW or in 12-ply gear… a lift is a lift, yes the gear helps your numbers if you can use it, but it won’t do the work for you… no way of competing or number of plies is better or worse… I can’t stand listening to people argue over who’s kool-aid is best…
Either way… go out and compete… strong in the gym doesn’t mean anything until you do it at a meet.

Best gym lifts: 260/200/350 @ 160ish
Did it! CPF Battle of Montreal yesterday
142.5/97.5/175 kg (314.2/215/385.8) @ 75 kg Raw.
Was walking around a bit over 170 before the meet and wasn’t planning to cut, but I got sick on Thursday and woke up on the weigh in day only half a pound over.
Went 9/9. Beat all my gym lifts on 2nd attempts, and added 14.2/13/23.8 lbs on 3rds. Last squat was a grinder, I think could’ve gone a bit heavier on bench and DL.
what do you guys think the best way is to incoporate knee wraps into your training, all my previous lifts have been completely unequipped so even adding knee wraps will make a difference, as i’ve never used them i’m completely clueless as when to add them so should I use them straight after warm ups or wait until I’m hitting heavy triples to singles?

I find them very uncomfortable to wear for anything but heavy 1-3 reps…I do 5-3-1 and I only wear them for the month before a meet when I switch to the 3-5-1 modified template and go for heavy singles…

youve only hit the nail on the head big lad, this is exactly what i was planning on doing but the pit fall i see in this is that i have zero experience with wraps apart from my last to squat days, I found the weight much lighter but could not judge depth at all, this is were i need the pracice and i dont wanna be going to 3RM - 1RM country and missing due to depth

I see your point…I think I’ll be addressing this by videotaping those sets and using that immediate feedback to make adjustments to my next set…I don’t really plan to hit a 1RM this cycle, per se, just heavy singles such that I am used to having heavy weights on my back again…
I assume you train alone and don’t have anyone to call your depth? If not, you may try videoing as well. Let me know what you end up doing.
