I’ll add in some more from what 2 scoops said, by saying that IF EVERYONE WASN’T SUCH A RAW FUCKING ZEALOT, WE WOLD HAVE MORE GOOD PEOPLE TO HELP. You ran away Stronghold, Hanley, I never see Lattimer post on here, and Jason Pegg is gone!
But enough rant. Ill post my raw and equipped totals, pullups are for fags
Raw
365 (425 in knee wraps and compression short briefs)
275
455
Equippped
507
363
440 (missed 3rd dead of 502 at last meet)
Shooting for a 1500-1600 total in march, and go to senior nats

I haven’t competed yet, though I want to. I have no friends that like lifting and I don’t know anyone that competes. I just train in my garage by myself. Training partners come and go, the only consistent one was my brother but he’s going to school six hours from here.
At 180 I’ve managed 365 squat, 265 bench and 405 deadlift, but I’m hoping to get some some real training partners and a real system going eventually so I can compete. Until then I’ll just keep truckin’ it in my garage while all my family members talk about what an obsessive wierdo I am.
Having training partners isn’t a requirement to compete. If you go and compete you might find some
Obviously, but who would go to their first powerlifting meet completely alone?
How far are you from Charlotte?
Probably 5 hours.
@PMPM, Kalle and Jack: I always thoght it would be more like everyone pointing and laughing followed by a big dude giving me a weggie. In all honesty though I’ve been a little nervous about it, but now I’m actually a little excited to follow through with one. Appreciate it.

I’ll add my voice to the people above encouraging you. From my very first meet, everyone was friendly, helpful and supportive. I’ve made a ton of good friends in the sport. All of us have found ourselves screaming and cheering for people we barely know regardless of the weight on the bar because they are out there doing it.

I’ll also add my voice. In fact, ouroboro is a friend I know through going to meets.
People on this board (T-Nation in general, not necessarily the PL section) tend to be quite aggressive and quick to throw insults around. I can see why people would get intimidated about going to a meet. But, PL meets tend to be the exact opposite. Everyone is very helpful and supportive. It doesn’t matter if you’re the best lifter there or a mediocre one (like me). As long as you’re doing your best people will be cheering you on.

That’s the attitude. My first meet I went alone, six weeks out I was in a training rut and numbers dropping. Signing up is great motivation… Oh yeah, I met Ouro and a lot of other lifters at that meet.
Best stats:
165 - 453/303/46? total 1,212lbs single ply.
moving up now so I ‘should’ start posting some better numbers.
This thread is the reason why i will compete in a Meet… lifting for yourself is fine but if you have to get on a stand and do a lift well then you ain’t gonna take it easy and do frick all for the year.
December 2011 Limerick Ireland - Squat and Deadlift.
Less than 12 months !
If i don’t compete well you lot will all know by lack of photos - i WILL compete !

Gimme a break. Do you think this is because everyone truly is a “raw zealot”, or because there are just a huge amount of douchebags on this site?
Take this thread for example, there are a lot of respected members here who compete raw and geared, and I have a hard time picturing any of them disparaging those who choose to compete in a manner other than themselves…
The problem isn’t that people are screaming that gear whores are bad, the problem is that the same people who are screaming that are fucking idiots in all manner of their communication…

Hey dude, I’m doing my first SPF meetin in Feb. If you ever get the urge to do a SPF meet in Georgia/Alabama/Tenn. shoot me a PM and I’ll try to make it to it as well.

Hey! You forgot me on that list Stronghold and Pegg are my bitches
Been competeing off and on for about 10 years now. Started off unsanctioned and USAPL…done a few AAU meets as well. Currently 35 y.o.
Best Squats
405 belt only in the gym, walked out
540 single ply in the gym, walked out
518 single ply in a meet (AAU)
600 single ply in gym out of monolift (bum knee made walkout toughest part)
600 double ply in gym out of monolift (only tried doulbe ply a few times, there was more there if I would have stuck with it)
Best Benches
405 single ply meet/gym
380 raw gym touch and go
360 raw meet (with a close miss at 375)
Best Deads
505 just a belt in the gym
518 single ply in a meet
total
right around 1400
squats and deads were back in the 2004-2006 time frame as was the shirted bench. March 2006 I had my 2nd ACL reconstruction, after rehab I got into highland games and competed from Nov 06 to Nov 07 when I destroyed my leg wrestling (acl, mcl, shattered tibia). Since then I have squatted 325 (belt only) and pulled 455 (belt only) but have been focusing on my raw bench (chasing 405).

Aight dude I’ll let you know. SPF is probably the one I’ll go with.

I think it has less to do with Raw zealots. To be honest anyone “who competes” and " gets it" don’t tend to get all hanged up on the whole " Raw vs. Gear " thing in the first place. No ,I think the real problem is all the “Internet experts” .The guys who spends more time reading articles online then actually putting there time under the bar.Case in point. There is a certain 500 lbs bencher who post in here who has had his advice in regards to benching contradicted by several “Keyboard lifters” on several occasion. I mean seriously ,who the hell wants to give up time giving out good advice? When it becomes a cluster fuck when someone who barely knows there ass from a hole in the ground wants to contradict what these guys are trying to say.
I’m doing my first comp in spring, unequipped apart from knee wraps and was just wondering what sort of numbers any of you have seen or hit yourself in a similar comp, as I am completely new to the sport I’ve no idea what’s decent, hopfully I’ll be competing in 220’s.

Hey Man where abouts is it ?
Is it the Junior or Master Competition ?
I was looking at the Facebook Page for Powerlifting Ireland not to many available for 1st timers.
If its in Dublin or the South i will be available to go look anyways and help if you need.

PS: From what a Lady on Facebook advised 200/300/400 would be a good standard in regards to Bench/Squat/Deadlift so that would be a good aim to start at.
