Day off from work today. Played Dead Rising 3 and had a glass of JWB. I searched high and low for some Highland Park 12. No go so I bought a big bottle of JWB. I know it’s a blend but it’s a damn good blend. The store had 3 bottles of Bookers though. I might pick up a bottle soon to make Push proud. Plus nothing really smacks me in the face anymore but I bet Bookers neat would.
Have you tried the Double Black? My cousin brought one down from Canada. Nice.
Whisky is a sipping drink not a shot. Jameson tastes like turpentine when you do shots. When you sip it, very pleasant.
Got home from Kuwait for the Christmas holidays and have already started building my collection. Woodford reserve and 25yo Glenlivet were duty free buys, Buffalo Trace (fantastic, but dangerously drinkable!) and Redemption Rye were early Christmas presents from my wife. [Sent from my phone, so apologies if the picture is a bit oversized]

The best whisky is the second one in my opinion.
Double Black is on my list I like the peatier smokier whiskys like Talisker so I imagine I’d prob like Double black. Laphroaig is still a bit much for me but I’ll grow into it. Agreed on the sipping…I haven’t done shots since college.

Woodford and Buffalo Trace are my favorite Bourbon’s ( so far ) Buffalo Trace goes down a little too easy for me too. It’s IMO a really good value and I wouldn’t think twice about buying a case of it. I’m just really enjoying trying new stuff. I’m jelly of your Glen 25. Only had the Glen 12 but I freaking love it.
Had my first rye last night. It was Knob Creek Rye. Didn’t like it, too rough. I’m afraid I might be spoiled by the local Dry Fly Whiskey which is ultra clean tasting. Unfortunately it’s also pretty darn expensive.
I was finishing up my Christmas shopping tonight and ran across one of those Vinturi wine aerator things, but made for spirits. It was on clearance at Bed Bath and Beyond so I picked it up out of curiosity.
And I have to say it definitely enhances the flavor. So far all I’ve had is the 90 proof Sazerac Rye that I’m not such a huge fan of anyway, but it definitely tastes better this way.
I think the mechanism is the same as the wine one, it just has a graduated 2oz top with 1oz and 1-1/2oz markings, and a button you push to release and aerate it. So if you have a wine one, you can probably just use that and try it out.

Honestly, I’m kinda disappointed with the Glenlivet 25. I have some of a bottle of 18 left as well and that’s a great drink; the 25 is a lot darker, with a smokey almost treacley aftertaste. Nice, but not as smooth or as pleasant as I was hoping for.
I have also been gifted a bottle of Gentleman Jack to add to the collection, which has quickly become another day-to-day sipping favourite of mine.
I hate all of you guys. I now try all whiskey, bourbon, and scotch I can get my hands on. Drank half a bottle of the Rebecca Creek I posted, then tried a knob hill, then a bourbon I could not see on the shelf at the bar, then had jack daniels, and a couple of other whiskey’s with sprite and another with diet coke, all in one night. Damn I puked my guts out. Too much in one night.
Christmas Eve, glass of Talisker and prime rib smoking the house up. Oh yeah, and my family by my side…Life is good!!! Merry Christmas to my fellow whiskey/whisky drinkers.
Part of the haul from last night, from the kiddos. Gentleman Jack, Maker’s, a pair of Riedel whisky glasses (simple but nice) and hard-to-see ice ball molds (about the size of a handball/raquetball, might not get a whole bunch of use).
I keep meaning to pick up some white whiskey to try out but haven’t had a chance. Got a bottle of Jameson at the end of October and now these to go through. Not exactly complaining though.

My Costco has an interesting kit. Age Your Own Whiskey. The kit comes with white whiskey and a couple of small barrels, I think oak. You pour the distilled whiskey in a barrel and age it for however long you want. I would be inclined to just buy whiskey I like, or if I got into it, distilling my own and getting bigger barrels to age in. I do think the idea is cool though. Especially for a gift idea.
