I live in PA where all liquor stores are run by the state. Whiskeys like Laphroaig and Macallan aren’t even carried in our stores and getting it shipped in is a huge pain in the ass. Proof that the damn government can’t do anything right.
Ouch that sucks.

Ouch that sucks. Not like I can really afford this stuff anyways, I just mooch off my dads stash.
The 12 year stuff isn’t too pricey, usually $40/bottle but getting it shipped into PA costs extra.
Or you can go with the 55 year old stuff, only $15k/bottle. Not too bad, eh?

Try the Blue Label for a splurge. Wonderful stuff.

This is typically the drink found in an Indian’s home (dot not feather).
Though I personally can’t handle whisky very well.
It rots my stomach.
When I was an underage teen I would drink this stuff non-stop because my house was filled with it. After I turned 19 and was legally allowed to buy alcohol I never touched this stuff ever again thank god.

This is a cruel thread.
Jim Beam is my economical choice. Maker’s Mark FTW. Met the distiller once. Also Basil Hadyn’s I am fond of.
John Powers has become my Irish of choice, but can’t go wrong with Jameson either.
Of the Scotch’s Talisker and Oban are some of my fav’s.
Hmmmm, whiskey (or whisky).
A man of discriminating tastes!
I love Oban 14, my favorite scotch.
Redbreast for when I want something from the other side of the Irish Sea
Buffalo Trace is for cheap bourbon nights. $18/bottle and tastes as good, if not better than Makers to me.

Don’t bother spending the money on JD Single barrel, it’s $50 and doesn’t taste as good as the original JD. Gentlemen’s Jack is OK, but again, not worth the price increase.
The JD Single barrel is hit or miss, each bottle is going to be different. Personally I prefer the lighter colored amber ones, the darker ones are a lot closer to the JD original imo.
How are you guys drinking whiskey? mixed? straight? I cant see how people can drink whiskey straight up!
For me its jack n coke.

I’ll take your advice, as I bought Gentleman Jack last month and really couldn’t tell a difference between it and original. The store I was at had single-barrel for about $45 but went with the Evan Williams.
I found Bookers here once and haven’t found it again since…that was a good one.
Bookers is great if you can handle 120 proof whiskey, most people can’t.
Here is a link SteelyD posted once about 100 year old whiskey found ice, thought it was pretty cool.
Booker’s is what I drink; suprised ANYONE mentioned it.
Hate JD, taste like ass.
Jim beam is cool.
My favourite has to be Famous Grouse
Bells is quite nice as well.

There’s a quote, usually attributed to Sinatra to the affect that “A proper drink should contain no more than 2 ingredients, and ice counts as an ingredient”
It’s pointless to drink good whiskey mixed with shit tons of high fructose corn syrup.
Good whiskey must be had neat. On the rocks is also acceptable, though just barely so.

No disrespect intended Lanky, but I just could never see the appeal of JD. Worst whiskey out there imo.
We’ve all got different tastes. Most people don’t like ANY whiskey!

I wouldn’t say I’m surprised, although I agree most people can’t handle it. I grew accustomed to whiskey after years of drinking 151 as a teen as source of cheap alcohol so a little extra strength never bothered me much. I wouldn’t buy that shit (151) today, though, haha.

Agreed.
I agree too. A little ice most times.
I like coke and I like whiskey, but putting them together ruins both.
I also like Baker’s but the last bottle I got my girlfriend finished most of it!

It’s the one on the far right here, with Booker’s being to its left.
I don’t have a very sensitive pallet. Jack and Diet coke works great for me. I’ve tried some of the “better” whiskeys neat, and just didn’t enjoy them. Most people cringe when I tell them I’ll drink Knob Creek with diet coke, but, eh, I’m drinking it and I enjoy it.
Wild Turkey << With coke.
JD << With coke or straight.
Knob Creek << With coke.
Grants (Sherry Cask)<< Straight or with water.
Famous Grouse << With water.
JD and coke. Every other whiskey I would consider drinking, I have with a couple of ice cubes…I let it melt a little before I drink though.

when I was growing up I cut my teeth on Old Crow, Evan Williams, and shine. I can drink Crown Royal if it’s kept in the freezer with ice water back. learned to like Grouse when I was in Scotland.
I prefer Bourbons and Firefly Vodka but am open to try anything thats not sweeter than Crown Royal.
my favorites:
Eagle Rare Single Barrel Bourbon Whiskey-10yrs-90 proof-it’s not that expensive or a top shelf but damn good on the rocks.
Four Roses Single Barrel-17yrs-100 proof-surprised me when I first tasted it. better than many bourbons that cost 2x+. straight up icewater back. trying to get my hands on 2010 Limited Edition Barrel Strength Bourbon. 100+ proof that varies from barrel to barrel. I was told that if I try it I’ll judge everything else I drink against it. sounds like a challenge.
Pappy Van Winkle’s Family Reserve-15yrs-107 proof, 20yrs-90 proof, 23yrs-96 proof(it’s worth the money to me)each has it’s own character and they’re all good. if you like bourbon you have to try this. straight up icewater back
Firefly Vodka is a local product and you need to try it to understand why I like it. it’s just good stuff.

Lagavulin!!
