So I’ve only seen a few threads discuss the insulin spike caused by whey protein. I’ve been using ON 100% Whey w/ hydro whey for a long time in my P+F shakes. Could someone clarify if the insulin spike with this is to much for P+F meal? Should I be using Metabolic Drive w/ casein instead?
And on a side note, can anyone tell me where the hell you buy greens+, I’ve never been able to find a site that sells it?
Do a giggity giggity Google search for 'Greens Plus". Lots of stuff will show up.
As far as whey at a P+F meal, I’ll admit to not having a ton of scientific knowledge on this one, but from what I know in general about nutrition, I wouldn’t think it would cause a problem. The one thing that will cause an insulin spike less than protein itself is fat, which WAY slows gastric emptying, and hence, lessens insulin.
If there is even a moderate amount of fat in a meal with whey and little in the way of carbs I would you think you’d be absolutlely fine.
However, I am a fucking moron sometimes, so if I’m wrong I’d like to know as well. Anyone got anything scientific for us?
yes its fast and yes can and does cause an insulin release like any intakle it will be slowed some by the fat inclusion. If you should change to Metabolic Drive well its a great sustained release good tasting quality product as long as not PWO your golden.

You may consider fiber as well as an inclusion

Does Fiber slow the insulin response?
I assume you are talking about adding it in the PWO drink, or did I get that wrong?
Reason I ask, is that I did not like the intense insulin spike I got from using maltodextrin and fructose along with the Hydrolyzed Whey. So I changed to a lower G I carb source (Oat Powder) and raw honey mix with the Whey Isolate, Hyrdolyzed Whey combo, to slow it down a bit. That combo is working OK, I did that as an alternative to adding fats in. Just curious about the fiber suggestion.
Not meaning to hijack the thread but you had did already answer the main question, that Metabolic Drive is not a PWO recovery drink.
Yes, it does. In fact, i does this much better than adding fat. Simply adding fat to a high GI meal often has very little positive effect. This is why is good to avoid high GI carb foods that are high in fat.

I stopped using whey other than immediately after training for this reason. I often felt like my blood sugar would dip too low after drinking a whey shake. I do much better with a good protein blend.
Still a little foggy…so far I gather that whey is ok then if I mix in enough fat/fiber, right?
Here’s what I put in a shake, let me know if this works or not…
2 scoops Whey
5 Tbs Flax oil
2 Tbs Natural PB
Usually eaten with either cottage cheese, or turkey/cheese. This has nothing to do with PWO, I use this in the afternoon and dinner, or if it’s an off day for a few of the last 3 meals of the day. So is this enough fat to slow the insulin response or do I need to change something?

Yes looks doable, BUT I would drop the flax Oil and use Flax Meal then you get a big whack of fiber and by good tahst a shit ton of fat your talking over 60g from the flax oil alone. Not that, that is bad but DAMN!!
In the long run youd be well off getting a powder with a mix of Casien and whey Like Metabolic Drive and doing the same thing but yes that ill work once adding the fiber component

Thanks for the help. Since I already have plenty of Metabolic Drive, I think I’ll just substitute that instead and use the Whey with my morning P+C shake.
Yeah I know it’s ton of oil, it’s really two different meals but I just mix it one shake for convenience. It’s needed with the carb cycle codex. It’d be hard to switch to flax meal and keep the same level of calories. Maybe just switch to 4 Tbs of flax oil and 2 tbs of meal.
Never tried the meal, does it make shakes chunky? Recommend a good one? I was looking at Red Mill 32 oz bag.
A few body builders I know will eat or drink an apple with their whey after their work out. I use ON too, and love it. I would never switch. I used it with apple juice for a while and I like it
