Does whey go bad or lose its protein value after the expiration date on the container. I was given 8kilos of whey dated in june. Is it still edible??
I don’t have a good answer for you, but if I were you, I’d chuck it. Just my opinion.
I am not sure about the labeling either. But, here is how I would look at it.
If you eat it, the stuff may make you sick. If you do not eat it, it will definitely not make you sick.
I would throw it out. Money be dammed. Health is more important!
By the way why do you think someone gave it to you for free? That should be the real tip off.
How about grow! bars … the last sell by date is 10/03 … how long are they good for?
If it is a brand name, it will be at about 90% of its label this far after June.
It’s dry whey powder right? I doubt very seriously it will cause you any discomfort or harm. It’s only a few months past the expiration date.
I have some experience in this topic, so dont ditch your cheap whey just yet. I exclusively but expired whey due to its reduced price. Is it bad? Only if moisture entered the container while it was sitting around. If the container was sealed and airtight, then its alright. It wont make you sick, and it tastes the same as non expired stuff. The reason the expiry date is on there is if you buy the protein right after its shipped, then open up the container (contaminating the seal)and then leave it around until its expiry date. Then it’s quality is questionable. As for protein bars, they do go bad after their expiry date, sometimes really fast. I once bought a Labrada pina-colada bar from this one store, half price becuase it just expired that day and it tasted great, one of the better bars I’ve ever had. Then the next week I buy the same bar from the same store, and it was terrible. Almost made me throw up.
Thanks. I had a shake with it 2hrs ago and so far so good. I’m hoping the protein value hasn’t decreased much.
T-Matt, exactly WHAT is your experience on the subject and WHERE does it come from?
WHey protein powders are not dairy. If it’ll go bad 2 months after bein opened, the manufacturer would print it on the bottle, instead of wasting a whole stock that didnt render profit because, the expiration date - meant for opened containers only - has already passed.
Last year I got bad food poisoning for 2 days straight after consuming whey protein that was expired. Take it for what i is, but let me tell you, it DOESNT feel good lying in bed, on the couch, on the floor, watching dr.phil’s show (you have no cable) twitching your body trying to find a comfortable position to rest - the one you cant seem to find. You see everybody else out and about while you’re puking 5 times a day and suffering from explosive diarhea. Your head is throbbing, and your girlfriend has to leave you your chicken noodle soup in the sidewalk 500 feet from your house, because your house smells, and you look like you just rose from the dead and are having a frankenstein party with your puke grunts and wobblig walking gait.
Not pretty.
most countries require supplement products to be up to label claim 6 MONTHS AFTER EXPIRE DATE. Dont throw it out, chow that shit!!
Diesel, that was quite descriptive! LOL!
