Where Did You Start?

Weighed 140 as a 5’10’’ high school sophomore during wrestling season, bodyfat 7%, started lifting shortly after that.

Now, about seven years later, 210 at 6’, bodyfat around 14% (bulking a bit right now).

Started 25 months ago at 5’11", 160 around 20% bodyfat (guess). Today I’m 5’11", 205 at 12-15% BF. Good luck man the results are worth it. It’s something that you can appreciate and no one can ever take away from you.

Oh yea, I had lifted some in high school for football. But, I got into the iron game this time around simply because the gym I went to play basketball at had a weight room. The reasons I stayed are too many to list here.

Ok, now I’m planing on really getting started this summer break. Going to lift in the morning at the local YMCA then head to work at night. Now that you guys are big, well some, and healthy and go to the gym, how is the belittling there?

I guess the main reason I don’t lift at school is I am to weak, and my ego is to strong. I’m not well known, but I still don’t like getting made fun of just because I’m not as built as the other guys. So how is the mentality you guys have seen? People act superior a lot of the times in the gym?

Started out age 20, 120 lbs, 5’5. I actually still have my first training logs and my bench was 155, squat was 180, and DL was 165. I started lifting b/c I was upset about breaking up with my gf at the time and wanted something to help get out my anger at the situation. I’m currently 22, 160 lbs, bench is 240, Squat is 340, and DL is somewhere in the low 400s.

Finding T-Mag and making lifting a part of my lifestyle is one of the best choices I ever made. The iron is always there for you no matter what’s going on in your life.

Just ignore everyone and do your thing. Who cares what they think? You’re going to just have to swallow your ego. I had someone who starting lifting with me who felt the same way, and was embarassed to go b/c he was weak…he quit after 4 weeks and looks exactly the same now as he did when I started 18 months ago. I’ve grown quite a bit.

I started at 14 5’8, 138 lbs 11% bodyfat. Now I am about half an inch taller, 152 lbs with 8% bodyfat.

started in september at 16, 97 pounds, 5.6. Right now im at 146 5,8. pics soon.

I started at 5’6" 107 lbs at 13.

I’m now 205-215 at the same height and 29.

Well I started at 19 yrs old with a paunch/beer belly, 5feet6 and 160 pounds. I would train for 4 months during my summer vacations and give up training during school. So all the gains made during summer would be lost a few months into school. Now that I have graduated I plan on training continuously.

Currently at the age of 22, I am 5feet8, 170 pounds with no paunch. :}
I seem to have good muscle memory so I ‘filled out’ my physique in about a month and a half of training and eating right.

To the person concerned with what others think in the gym. Forget them my friend. Leave the ego at the door. When I train my biceps (which I rarely do) I use weights ranging from 8 pounds to 45 pounds and those guys look at me as if I am on steriods as they deem its impossible for me to have 16.5 inch arms with those weights…
Train hard with compound exercises and train at the gym as its always good to have a spotter for the heavier lifts. Slowly but surely with dedication you will surpass them.

Goodluck and God Bless the Iron!

I’ve always been tall and skinny, stood 5’9 at 13 years old and 116 lbs. I was extrememly active in high school with volley ball and riding/training/showing my horses. Became a lot more sedentary in college and gained an extra 10-15 lbs. I got tired of feeling tired and wanted to be lean and toned again so I started working out last summer but didn’t get serious with lifting until just this past January. I feel it’s important for me to be strong and muscular and able to take care of myself given the two professions I am interested in becoming part of; police officer and firefighter.

Started age 16 140lbs 5’10 - unable to do a single pushup.
Never played sports - i did’nt like team games especially when most of them are a-holes lol.
Started weight training (or over training as i like to call it now) and martial arts at the same time.

Now age 30 (as of yesterday) and am 280lbs (though strangley people think i’m about 60lbs lighter).
a lot stronger now but quite tubby and have had a really bad thyroid problem for the last 7 months but am getting better.

Like Jerry said - compound exercises make the man.

D

Started when I was 19 weighing 147, now 21 and now im 172 at 10% bf.

gotta love weight training

I started out weighting 160lbs at 6’…typical ectomorph.
Now I’m 225lbs, one centimeter taller…Olifter.

I started in Jan. 2003 at 28 yrs. of age, 5’11", and 190 lbs. I had gained 10 lbs. over a week’s vacation and decided I did not want to get lazy and fat with age. I had always played sports when younger, but that had not carried over after my graduation from college. I wish I had started when I was in my teens, as I was always a skinny 150 lbs. in high school, but I’m glad I started at all and I’m addicted to lifting, now

So, now at 30 I’m weighing around 178 lbs. and ~13 to 15% BF.

deadlift: 430
squat: 315
bench: 240 (~150 before I started lifting)

Started at 15:
Height: 5’9"
Weight: 125 lb.
Bench: 55 lb.
Squat: 95 lb.
Dead: 105 lb.

At 18:
Height: 5’11"
Weight: 180 lb.
Bench: 245 lb.
Squat: 365 lb.
Dead: 335 lb.

Now, at 23:
Height: 5’11"
Weight: 210 lb.
-I won’t post my current numbers, as I do not have photos or meet records to back them up.

The take home message? If I can get over my 15 year-old ego and train, anyone can. My numbers and body were pretty damn feeble, but since I wanted change that, I knew I had to swallow my pride and train (with people). Just take things seriously, have a professional demeanor, and it is likely that most of the bigger, stronger guys will be supportive and helpful.

Since I’m just starting, and I got a lot of ground to cover, just wondering where all of you started at and why you decided to work out. I’m 16 145lbs and 5 foot 6. Looking to get stronger for 1) Of course to be healthier and 2) Sounds corny, but yeah to help out people that get picked on. Sounds cheesy, whatever. Hate seeing when people get made fun of so hardcore they cry. Especially relatives.[/quote]

With the exception of my college years, I can’t remember a time that I didn’t workout. My earliest memories include pushups, setups, bicycling, motor-cross, using Dad’s home-made weight training equipment, grade school, Jr high, and high school sports, etc… After college, I got back into training because I missed it, I was single, and had a beer gut. I found this site about five years ago and blew away every goal I’ve set for myself. I’m working on a new goal now, and with the knowledge I’ve gained over the years, I’m sure that I will blow that goal out of the water too.

Good luck ~ lift hard!

I started at 15, 5’7 120 lbs ( rack of bones) I still remember the day i benched 90 lbs and was all pumped about it lol…right now I just turned 20 5’8 180 lbs and bench 260… not alot or anything but alot better than it was

Started at 16… After dieting (almost at the point of being anorectic) for about 1-1?years…
Weighed about 110 lbs, at aprox. 5’6
benched maybe 85 lbs,
deadlifted maybe 120 lbs,
didn’t start squatting untill half a year later or so from starting to train…
Anyways now I’m soon to be 18, and at 162 lbs, 5’7 short,

squatting maybe 250(lbs)…

Started about six months ago at 5’8 140 lbs, 12% bodyfat. Got down to around 132 for the wrestling season, at about 6 or 7% BF. Now i am 5’8 8% BF and 155 lbs.

started 6’4" @ 165lbs.
Need I say why I started?

Got up to 6’4" @ 250lbs

Now 6’4" @ 215lbs.
