I have looked around for when/what you should eat when doing tabata, but have only found what kind of exercises and how to do it.
How long before tabata should you eat? How long after? And what should I eat?

What are your goals?
Whoa…Tabata is not some whole sort of routine…it’s just one form of interval training.
I mean it’s sort of like asking what you should eat after working shoulders.
If you’re trying to lose fat, I’d recommend finding a diet somewhere here on T Nation.
A pop-tart?

Ever heard of Carbo-Loading? Youre just fueling yourself up for the event… Big bowl of fettuccine alfredo within 10 minutes of starting your tabata workout and if you timed it right you should finish the bowl about halfway through your workout.
You’re not supposed to eat during “tabata”. In fact, if you’re doing it the way you’re supposed to, you probably shouldn’t eat too close to the beginning of your workout… It’ll all depend on how well you handle food close to an intense workout. Why not just eat a normal meal 3 hours before and go from there?
a big bowl of pasta before tabata is a terrible idea…
like they said above, the Tabata method is not a “lifestyle” covering exercise and nutrition protocols. It is simply interval training, based on maximal effort for short periods of time, followed by short rest periods; as you probably know. I would contend it is not something to make your only exercise routine, rather, use it as “cardio supplementation” to a solid workout routine. As for that solid routine and an eating schedule/plan, I’d do a little research in the articles tab, which you will find at the top.
best of luck

OK. Say I want to do front squat tabata on wednesday at 2pm. After the 4 minutes of front squat tabata, when should I eat?
Directly after?
30 minutes after?
1 hour after?
Some other time after?
1 week later?
Never?
This is what I am asking. To get the best results of tabata. I have nmot seen this explained. I read through Dan Johns articles and the other tabata articles, and have not seen this explained.

the only thing you’re going to do is the front squat? My advice, as i said above, is to find an actual ROUTINE i.e. a program with 3-4 days of lifting, covering the whole body in that span. However, to answer your question, “most” seem to agree it is best to eat within an hour of finishing your workout.

Then you need to find a fat loss diet…it really has nothing to do with Tabata at all.
