When To Cut For Summer?

Hey guys, im at 210 right now at around 14% BF (no shoe:)) and i was wondering how long itd take for me to cut down to around 7% BF? assuming my diet and supplementation are near perfect?

rough timeframe here?

thanks!

Berardi’s get shredded diet says that you can lose 0.5%-1% body fat per week. So thats 7-14 weeks?

JB states that those who do the get shredded diet should already be pretty damn lean before even starting it.

If you’re looking to drop that muc BF before summer, perhaps you’d like to try the V-diet.

IMO, dropping 7%BF while youre still within a normal BF range isnt going to be the easiest thing.
As in: it’d be much easier to go from 20-13 than 14-7 in the same time period.

If you do want to speed up the process, HRX will help.

I have similar stats (200 lbs, 13%), and I’m starting the V-Diet on the 19th (after spring break). This is my second cutting phase, but will hopefully be my first time getting “shredded”.

As such, I’m playing it safe (at least I think I am). I may be giving myself three months until summer, but it’s only two months until school’s out…that’s my actual target.

Start now. Give yourself 12-16 weeks.

If you plug your numbers into a calculator, you’ll see that when you get to 7% BF you’ll weigh 194 lbs (if you’ve lost no muscle). So, you need to lose 16 lbs, which can take 8-16 weeks, depending on how seriously you take your diet. It would take less if you went on the V-Diet, of course.

The problem is that your 14% BF number is wrong. I’m not saying you’re lying, I’m saying you’re misguided.

You will find that after you lose 16 lbs you will not be at 7% BF. On the plus side, you will look a hell of a lot better. You may even have yourself a 6-pack

Just forget the BF %. Set yourself a time frame, an amount of lbs that you want to lose per week, and go for it.

I’m in a similar situation…

I’ve been focusing on BJJ and am now around 14% and I’m gettin married late in June and want to look good.
Problem is I’m so unmotivated to diet.
Working out is not an issue but diet discipline is. I just really like BJJ and don’t like suffering through diets.
I cannot do v-diet or use any protein powders…all protein powders I can’t digest.

Anyway, You need to start trying to lose weight by any method here on T-Nation soon. And so do I. The summer is not far off and the sooner you get going the better. Whatever nutrition/training plan you use to get lean, you need time to really make it work as they are all about constantly assessing and making adjustments so you
keep muscle
lose fat
So just get going soon. Start today by eliminating all drinks except water.
Cut the high fructose corn syrup and simple carbs, do a short HIIT workout and you’ll feel better tomorrow…

I started the day after christmas. If I get there early I’ll maintain being lean. Start now and worry about everything else later.

What’s a cut?

just boost T levels thus confidence and you can be thick and mean, and nail as many chicks as you feel like.

Or beat on all the skinny little guys with abs for fun! Talking about the Brad Pitt guys!

I am planning on V-diet beginning 1 May

Agreed. Anyone who has ever dieted down knows it usually takes longer than planned.

Minor Hijack:

I intend to start my first cut at the end of March (it’s my birthday later this month and I don’t want to be dieting for that).
I’m currently doing a 5x5 workout. Could I keep doing that and chuck in some HIIT, barbell complexes and/or steady state cardio to help, or should I change training regime? I’m worried about losing muscle, clearly, and I’m thinking that the strength training will help me keep the muscle, but may not use enough calories to lose the fat. Any thoughts anyone?

When losing fat in the past I loved 5x5 or even lower reps and 4 20 min HIIT sessions/week
2 min easy, 2 min hard…

It’s very simple and very effective. If the strength stimulus is high but the volume is kind of low you’ll be fine with the HIIT.
I actually do 2 of the HIIT sessions on the same day.
