When I grow up, I want to be an Alicorn

Take it easy on those weights - you don’t want to rock the boat too much.

Trip Recap

Had fun, ate a lot of food. 8 days is way too long of a cruise.
Hit the gym 5 of the 8 days. 3 leg days broken up by a push and a pull day. Gym was actually pretty decent too.
I ate pretty well, mostly stuck with animals. The deserts were all awful. The people that rave about cruise ship food must not know how to cook. The food all had the same, slightly weird, flavor to it. The buffets were edible and the fancy dinning room was pretty tasty. One day, I ended up eating so many parts of a pig, bacon, ham, pork loin and ribs. That was a good day.
Surprising lack of seafood on a trip based around the ocean. The buffets had the same cod dish the entire time. There was one lobster night. No crab or halibut even though we were in Alaska. Rip off.
The ports we went to were Skagway, Juneau, Victoria, CA and the cruise ended in Vancouver, Canada. Skagway and Juneau had basically rolled up the sidewalks for the season. No crab restaurants were open. Both places I had looked up to go before had closed just two days before we arrived. The deep seas fishing excursions were shut down too. I really wanted to go catch a halibut.
We also got to sail next to a glacier, that was the highlight. Pictures don’t do it justice.

Victoria was a pretty cool stop. Found a nice coffee shop to hang out at. We met a couple there that had recently returned from a Mediterranean cruise. They said they were so bored they hopped off the boat at the second port and explored Italy on their own. I wish I had met them sooner. I would have left the boat in Skagway and figured out how to ride a moose home.
We stayed one night in Vancouver in an awesome water-front house. View was awesome.

I hadn’t been so excited to get home from a trip in a long time. I am glad I got to try a cruise. Box checked. Not for me. I’ll take roaming around in my Jeep any day. It was nice to know where I was sleeping every night though.

Hubby and I picked up something nasty on the boat. Both of us have been sick for a few days.
Resting for a few days, gym is planned for Thursday.

Anyone in the path of the eclipse tomorrow? Hubby and I are heading down to one of our favorite areas, the eclipse path goes right over it. So excited to take the Jeep out on dirt again. It’s been too long.

I am in Texas on a work trip. The next few days will be filled with hotel workouts. There is a small DB rack that goes up to 50lbs. I’ll have to make that work.

I am still not feeling 100% better, but I am close. This work, especially the conditioning had me nauseous every few minutes.

I gotta be honest, there was a lot of stopping and breathing during the conditioning as well.

Food plan this week is protein powder for breakfast and lunch, then find something in the grocery store for dinner. I’d love to eat Texas BBQ every night but my wallet would hate me!

This is a perfect hotel workout. Thank you for always sharing your wisdom @T3hPwnisher !

The outdoor pool area was next to the gym so I did this next to the pool. 50F this morning as well, it was great.

Grip was the main factor, I ended up doing about half front rack carries to give it a break.

Found out from a coworker that is at this work conference with me that the company will reimburse for dinners on this trip. They have no idea how many racks of ribs I am about to eat.

Feeling sore and tired this morning. Couldn’t get into a rhythm. Got the work in though. Humane burpee was way harder today than when I have done it before.

Last night’s event:
1.25 mile walk
Took down 1lb of ribs + 1/2lb of brisket
1.25 mile walk

Dinner probably looked like a wild dog taking down a hog. Just bones and a full belly left over.

Your cruise recap sounds exactly like my reasoning for never taking one! I still feel like I need to experience it but maybe I’ll just do it for someplace I’ve already been and only for 3 days (or whatever the shortest interval possible is).

I recommend it just for the experience, who knows, you may like it! But yes, go for a shorter one to start. After three days I was done, so that would be perfect.

Thursday

Went digging through Pwn’s hotel archive for this one.

“JUAREZ’ DEAL WITH THE DEVIL IS A CLUSTER F**K”

Everything done w/30lb DBs

5 minutes of ABCs
5 minutes of Devil Press
5 Minutes DB clusters
1 minute Devil Press
1 minute Clusters
4 minutes Devil Press
4 minutes clusters
2 minutes Devil Press
2 minutes Clusters
3 minutes Devil Press
3 Minutes clusters
1 minute Devil Press
1 minute burpees
1 minute Clusters
1 minute burpees
1 minute ABCs

That is a doosie. Holy moly. I haven’t sweat that much for a while. Should have known better considering the source!

I was breathing like a freight train the entire time and had to a rest between each set. Toward the end the reps were getting real slow. Nice one to keep in the back pocket for traveling.

Had a small pile of tacos for dinner last night. My coworker made it through 2.5 of her’s and said she was full. Amateur. I snarffed 5 of them and wish I had 2 more.
I think tonight it’s time to find more ribs. Found a place I want to try that was closed earlier this week. Rib finding missions are amazing.

20 Minute AMRAP:
35lb DB for all

4 pushups
20 DB Swings
4 Alternating Snatches
10 Goblet Squats

Made it 9 rounds in 19:33, 10 rounds in 21:13.

Last hotel workout for this trip. Have to pack up this morning, but I wanted to get something quick in.

First few rounds felt great, then thing really set in around the 9 minute mark. Reps slowed down after that.

Another successful rib and brisket outing.

All was promptly disposed of. I’ll miss the bbq, but I am so ready to go home.

@QuadQueen I have a nutrition question. I thought I would summon the expert! I know I am not getting enough veggies in my diet. I am curious, are supplements like Superfood worth using to “bridge the gap”? (Not trying to pick on anything Biotest here, Superfood is absolutely the one I would go with, I want to know if the benefits are worth the money.)
I know real food is better, but let’s assume I am not going to suck it up and eat my kale

So, short answer - SUCK IT UP AND EAT YOUR KALE!!

I would definitely prefer that you chose to eat real veggies, but if your circumstances don’t allow for that, Superfood or another “greens” supplement is an option. Understand that greens/veggie powders are not a substitute for a veggie-filled diet long term, but the supplements can offer some vitamins and antioxidants that you wouldn’t otherwise be getting without the veggies.

Just to throw out another thought, could you maybe look at some easy ways to get more veggies? You miss out on a lot of the fiber and all of the satiety benefits that they offer when you opt for the supplement, so if there’s anyway you can suck it up and eat the damn kale, it would be preferable. Also, kale is not mandatory - there’s a whole lot of other (better tasting) veggies out there. (I know you already know that but, I like to beat a dead horse. lol)

Raw kale is awful

Kale in soups/curries is actually pretty solid. Made a Turkey sausage, bean, potato, and kale bean soup tonight was quite good.

You get points for sucking it up and eating the kale!!! I totally agree - raw kale is tough to swallow, literally. Cook it and it’s a completely different ball game!

So glad to hear it worked out for you! I’m always coming up with bad ideas, haha.

You mean there isn’t some magic potion that I can drink instead of eating veggies? Blast.
Thank you for sharing your awesome wisdom. There are a couple veggies I like, I just need to make myself by then. I hate food waste, so once they are in the house they get eaten.
Kale was just an example, mostly because it’s awful!

@heretolog I meal prepped some Italian Wedding Soup with kale in it this week. Raw kale sounds like a great way to talk yourself into never eating a vegetable again.

Frozen veggies are a great “no waste” option! Fresh veggies aren’t mandatory and often the frozen are more nutritious because they’re picked and preserved at their peak - not harvested early and hauled. Frozen gives you lots of options and none of the excuses!

My wife seems to quite like Kale and my son eats it raw. I am convinced that it is actually a fake food that someone has convinced the population to eat for health benefits but it is actually a big practical joke. I am sure it is just a weed that grows at the side of the road somewhere.

If I had rabbit taste buds, I would probably be healthier.

That feels spot on.

It’s best use in the raw form is most definitely “salad bar garnish”, so yeah, sort of “fake food”. lol
