When I grow up, I want to be an Alicorn

Tuesday PM
Conditioning

EMOM, 20 Minutes, Humane Burpee w/ 35lb KB

I was moving so slowly this was almost continuous movement. Feeling drained today.

Schedule went a bit sideways today, so I just did this at home to get something in. Might make it to the gym later this week, but it will depend on if we go on a trip this weekend. Trying to get in as many trips to the desert before it gets super hot. Priorities…

Cardio

32 minutes, about 2.25 miles
16 total running, walking the rest

All the cardio. Any morning that ends up being open I go enjoy the beautiful weather. So I have a run/walk in the morning, and walk after lunch. Feeling like I may be balancing out how much I sit at work.
Ended up at 16k steps Monday, 13k yesterday. I may not get my 10k steps everyday, but I have been hitting 70k+ weekly totals. Thinking of it that way is way easier for me.

Edit: One of my friends dropped out of the obstacle race I am doing in Colorado Springs in a few weeks. I am a bit bummed, I was looking forward to that. My other buddy and her significant other will still be doing it though. Really just an excuse to go see a friend and visit somewhere I haven’t made it to yet.

Tuesday Weigh-in
148.2, same as last week.

I came down with something nasty over the weekend. Feeling funny and unusually exhausted Thursday, so I skipped the gym. Friday, a sore throat and more fatigue. Friday night, Saturday and Sunday was sinus pressure and pain, body aches, all the things. I became one with my sofa. I didn’t even feel like going on a trip this weekend. Serious stuff folks.
Diet has been medicore. I didn’t feel like eating, but anytime I went too long without food, I got nauseous. So I had to eat every few hours to avoid one more symptom. I mostly cooked, but the snacks were carb heavy. Pretty much whatever sounded good, I did not care much about anything other than feeling better. All that considered, I am fine with the scale. Diet can continue when my body is not busy fighting something.

Wednesday now and I am at about 60%. Sinus pressure and headaches are gone, but congestion remains. The fatigue is the main factor. Hubby and I have gone on a few short walks to get out of the house. After a block or two I feel like I had been walking for miles. Gym not happening the rest of this week.

Hope you get better quickly! Did you do a covid test?

Thank you for the well wishes! I did not, not something I cared to do at this point.

Cardio

1:30/run/walk cycles

~1.75 miles

Finally feeling normal again. Beautiful morning, 60F and sunny. Was able to breathe through my nose on all the running time.

Weekend:
Went to run a trail that we haven’t done in a while in the southern part of the state. A thunderstorm hit about an hour before we got to the trail. Normally, this trail runs through a dry wash for a few miles. The wash was not dry. Flash floods in the desert are serious.

So we turned around and went to higher ground!

Moving great today. Nothing like being sick for a week to make you appreciate being healthy!

Weird, laying around the house and eating whatever you want for a week isn’t a recipe for weight loss? Blast.

Everything felt heavy today and more difficult than it should have been. Feeling the last two weeks off physically, but mentally I am ready to get back at it.

I need to go look at some new gyms. The one I am at is fantastically equipped, but it is hard to find floor space for working with dumbbells. I kept thinking it would slow down after February, but I think the zoo is here to stay.

I was feeling exhausted after work and let my laziness win. Modified day 2 to work with a single KB and did this at home. It was nice, still felt like I did something and didn’t have to deal with the hectic gym.
Everything is feeling heavy. Moved slow and was way out of breath. Fatigue is a factor as well, more tired than I normally am. Wondering if I am not fully recovered from whatever I came down with. If so, it is lingering like crazy!

Headed the deepest into the Backcountry I have ever been this weekend. 80 miles off-pavement just to reach to the area we are camping. It is a self-sufficient area that requires permits, which means that even on a holiday weekend, I have about 100k acres of desert to share with a max of 180 people. Yes please.

Weekend
Hope you all had awesome, long weekends!
Mine was… Full. My body is tired and soul is full.
Ended up going more places than planned… par for the course on our trips. A grand total of 1100 miles were driven. Many on dirt, of course.

Met these two sweethearts at a view area in AZ. On Indian Reservation land, so you can guess where they came from. We were miles from a house or town, so they are out there on their own. Super friendly, they hung out with us while we made dinner and ate. After about 30 minutes one let me rub her belly. We almost brought them home with us, but we can’t have a dog at our place and all I could offer them is 50 hours a week locked in an apartment alone. They are better off roaming free and getting scraps from suckers that stop at the view area. At least, that is what I told myself as I drove away… Man they were cute.

Yesterday errands ran long so I moved the gym to lunch break time today. Then work was super busy so lifting was done at home after a 3pm lunch. Weird day, but I got everything I wanted done.
Legs were feeling the run during the split squats. Everything else moved nicely.

Run was awesome. Pretty sure I was still sleeping the first mile, because I was able to breathe through my nose for about that distance.

Swapped the usual day 1 for day 2 since I haven’t been doing that one in the gym for a few weeks. Sounded good as I walked in the door.

Prowlers were full today so I opted for the assault bike. I am going to look at new gyms sometime this year, I swear.

Long weekend planned, so everything is getting pushed together and moved up. Have the obstacle race this weekend. One friend has cancelled and the other is sounding shaky, so it wouldn’t surprise me if it ends up being a solo run. This is why I don’t end up maintaining friends.

Edit-
Weigh in today = 149.4. Keeping this cut going until the end of July. The last 3/4 weeks ended up being a diet break so I feel confident cutting another 8 weeks. Come on 140…

They were great! I struggle to feel RDLs in my hammies at all and that fixed it instantly.

If you want to put more tension in the glutes, try shifting more weight into the mid-foot right on top of the weight plate. For some reason I can feel the tension move to the butt a little more. It’s wild!

Obstacle race recap
Overall, super fun experience. Ran, climbed and carried things a total of 3.7 miles. I was running it with three friends and and between waiting in line at obstacles and running their pace, it took 1.5 hours. No intent on setting any records, we all just wanted to finish and have fun. We did just that.
I was able to complete all the obstacles, except the ring swing (no idea what the official name is, it was monkey bar rings). I had bad timing and couldn’t reach the next ring before losing my grip. I was the only one in my group to make it up the rope climb and rope mud wall. We had an Ironman runner with us and he crushed me on the running, but I caught him on all of the upper body heavy obstacles. Lifting for the win. I also shined on anything involving climbing or grip. I was called a mountain goat multiple times by my buddies. I guess it pays to rock climb and boulder for years.
This race made me want a giant obstacle course in my back yard. If I had a yard.
We all finished 20 minutes before the course closed for a gnarly thunderstorm storm complete with quarter sized hail.
It was awesome to visit my friends I hadn’t seen in two years. We were all a muddy, happy mess at the end.

I apparently couldn’t muster up a smile for photos. I think that is the face of wondering where I was going to be cleaning mud out of for the next week.
