When I grow up, I want to be an Alicorn

This is actually a lot more common than you would think. Your symptoms sound like cholinergic urticaria. I have something similar, except without the hives, so probably not cholinergic urticaria. I once did a Google search, and stumbled upon a forum with a bunch of people with similar complaints, but no answers regarding the cause. I’ve not been able to find any real cause myself, despite researching and talking to my doctors (ironically, I’m a physician myself). I find that taking antihistamines before running prevents it.

Interesting, the symptoms are basically spot on. It could be that. I do not have any hay fever or seasonal allergies, and it goes away after a few times of running. The antihistamines may make the first times out more comfortable though. May barrow some of Hubby’s meds for an experiment if it doesn’t stop.

I believe (EDIT) @ChickenLittle and @Dani_Shugart were having a conversation about this in another thread

Ouch! Her symptoms sound way worse than mine. Sounds like they could be related though, and much of the same allergy conclusion was made.

Sorry, I know it’s not the same thing - but the conversation seemed relevant and it made sense to bring these two into the fold if they had some information that could help =)

Your body makes histamine and certain things can trigger a release. Many foods are high in histamine and it can be an accumulated effect. Most of the time your body can deal with it, sometimes it just gets overloaded. Sounds like your body just needs time to adjust. Try the claritin and see if it helps. It takes a few hours for it to fully work so may e take it the night before if you run early in the morning.

No need to apologize, it seems relevant to me as well. I will go back to it if the itchy does not improve.

Maybe running causes an overload? It may be enough of a stress trigger for me. Good to know of the Claritin the night before. I absolutely would have tried it before heading out.

That’s it.
I think It’s worth a shot.

Claritin is fine, but Zyrtec (Cetirizine) may work better. It tends to work better for skin-related reactions, and has faster onset (about 20 minutes).

Thursday

Run/Conditioning

10 Rounds
2 minute run
1 minute walk
10 Burpee chins before start, 10 more at round 8

Almost no itchy today, even without drugs. Yay! It’s going away very quickly. Legs felt like lead. The burpees warmed them up a little.

All good in here, @unicornsandrainbows? Maybe I just missed a post about an extended backcountry trip or something similar?

Thank you for reaching out! Always amazed at how much support is here.

I wish it was an extended backcountry trip! I came down with the 19. Been absolutely exhausted and weak as a newborn kitten. Symptoms started the night after my last workout/post, so it’s been about a week now. The worst thing was the body aches the first few days. Felt like it was all the soreness I have had the last few months hitting me at once. I gave it to my hubby as well, so we have been staked out on the couch watching all the movies.

It sounds like the fatigue may last at least another week. I am tentatively planning on a gym session tomorrow to see how strength is fairing. Hope to get back to consistency sooner than later, missing the gym. And definitely missing the backcountry adventures.

Ugh, so sorry to hear that! Hope you rest well, and that both you and your husband beat it quickly.

It’s official, running causes Covid. Yet another reason to avoid it at all costs.

Hope you heal up quickly.

I think you may be on to something there. Two running sessions last week and just hours after the second, Rona symptoms.

That’s science.

Drink lots of fluids (pedialyte, if you can), get some sun, and don’t miss out on that Vitamin D.

Also, probs don’t go for a training session until you’re 100% sure you’re better. I tend to start training again too early and then have no ability to recover from the cold or the training… best practice is to wait till you’re like 95-100%.

Don’t undervalue the fluids! I got the rona and was in and out of it in 3 days, back to lifting in 5 by doing this (and abusing cold meds, sshhh). Hope you feel better soon

@Andrewgen_Receptors Solid advice. I am maybe at 70%. Mentally, I want to be back.

@ChickenLittle Thank you!

Attempted a gym session. Ha. A 135 DL felt awful. Made it 3 reps. Maybe next week folks.
