When I grow up, I want to be an Alicorn

Nice! It is well within a reasonable mileage build up.. for both of us.
She seems to enjoy it, but who knows? I’ve asked, but she hasn’t answered in a language I speak.

Wait untill she bring you her leash to go for a run or she get so happy when you running shoes come out.

Great leg day. Felt hard, but I wasn’t completely trashed after. This is where I am reminded of the gold mine that is 5/3/1.
I really like not thinking about weights and progression. I just look at the spreadsheet, load and go. Taking thought and guesswork out of it is great for me.

That’s what I love so much about Girvan. I see her muscles and see them working and don’t have to think or worry about a single thing. And she doesn’t chatter at me, so I never feel irritated.

I love it when it feels good! Diet, workouts…just so nice when it dials in.

Couldn’t agree more. I’ve noticed that I feel less apprehensive going to the gym too. I was expecting so much intensity I was actually starting to dread going. Such a mental relief on so many levels.

Another great session. Tired by the end, dizzy during a few sets. Good mind muscle connection and chest pump.
Had to cut cardio short for late gym session. Kiva had a vet appointment that ran long.

I might get some backlash for this, but I am struggling with the dog a bit. I’m noticing a lot of mood swings with me. I get easily frustrated and impatient with certain triggers, like when she takes 20+ minutes to potty at 9 when I am tired. Or when she comes and head butts my leg or hand for pets for the 8th time in 10 minutes. I get instantly frustrated then that turns into wanting to cry. There has been a lot of breathing exercises in my day the last two weeks.
Really weird, I’m feeling like a hot mess right now. She has been a very good girl. I’m just wondering when dogs start to be fun to have around, instead of boosting my anxiety and stress. I’m always on edge when she is out of the kennel.

Interval run

12:00 easy jog
6x 1:00 hard, 1:00 easy
10:00 easy

Foggy morning, loved it. Intervals felt amazing, legs were alive today.
Kiva saw a deer and did not chase it, which was awesome. She is very good at not being reactive.

By chance, has the dog been interrupting your sleep schedule?

Yes. There has been some whining and barking in the kennel at night. It’s getting less frequent, but still happens some nights.

Your experience sounds similar to what I went through as a new parent. Sleep deprivation can put us in an easily agitated state, and even something that we know we love can, at that moment, absolutely drive us mad.

Sounds fairly normal then. Here I was thinking the dog was bringing back anger issues I haven’t had in years.

Once, while my kid was having a crying fit, after many nights of broken sleep, they trashed and flung their skull into my nose and I practically threw my kid to my wife because, at that exact moment, I don’t know if I’ve ever been angrier.

Our dumb lizard brains are powerful when we haven’t gotten enough sleep. The pre-frontal cortex needs adequate rest to function at it’s best.

I feel better already. Interrupted sleep brings out the worst in us quickly.

Louie never stops demanding attention unless he’s asleep, and it’s pretty fatiguing. The weekends with him are terrific because I have more energy and time (and I happily have long weekends) but during the work week it’s hard not to feel irritated sometimes, especially if the husband hasn’t been available to exhaust him.

Rescues don’t ever really relax, is what I’m finding.

On that note, I’ll say that we have our boxer enrolled in doggie day care and they absolutely love it. Not sure if that’s an option where you are, but mine is on the way to work, and they get out a TON of energy there. Because, otherwise, I gotta walk her 3x per day, haha.

I totally agree with the sleep thing. When you aren’t getting sleep and they constantly need something from you it can quite literally make you crazy. Just because you love something doesn’t mean they can’t frustrate you to the point of fury. I love my kids with everything in me, but when they were babies and I was sleep deprived… I had a fuse that was about 1/4 of a centimeter long. Hopefully things will get easier as you both adjust to your new situation.

Well, at least I can adjust my expectations for this.

We have those, but it’s not an option. Between our trainer and how I feel about other dogs, there is a standing no dog parks, no daycare, no play dates rule for life. Basically, she won’t ever pick up a good habit or behavior from other dogs.

That sounds like me right now!

Lol. I feel ya. Providing care, spending time together and building trust will go a long way in growing patience. As I am a cat person rather than a dog person I can only speak from the perspective of children. (Cats are extremely self sufficient). Even if all of the behaviors don’t level out, love will eventually give you the buffer that you need.
