When Does a "Fake" Pandemic Become "Real"?

Okay, why not do the small stuff like wearing a mask when you leave your table? It really isn’t that bad. Maybe take one or two steps back and talk a bit louder when you are with friends. I think there is a good probability that if we are good at doing the small things, that we won’t be forced to do the big things.

The story of the seat belt comes to mind here. People thought they were uncomfortable, refused to wear them. Some even thought it was government overreach to require them in cars. Turns out it is a really small thing you can do to reduce your fatality rate significantly.

Is that the best case scenario? I could’ve sworn I’d heard a huge number of people are asymptomatic, and many others have mild symptoms.

You and your whining about alcohol, nobody is talking about alcohol poisoning. It’s heroin and fentanyl mostly that is the issue.

So why you so scared of COVID then?

It would have been better, Canada’s GDP went down by 20% but then up another 5 once the lockdowns ended. The problem with the US is that the response was just fucked up in every way. Sweden’s economy is only down by 8%.

Except it won’t, 2-3 years at least. I think getting the virus under control and letting it spread slowly is probably the best bet at this point, but of course the US has failed to do either.

It’s a bad reality show.

The current recovery rate is between 97%-99.75%. If it drops significantly, maybe I’ll consider…maybe

They are all the same. Here we have this lady named Theresa Tam and it’s the same story. Don’t wear masks, they will make you sick. Now everyone has to wear masks. We can go back to normal once there is a vaccine. Oh no, 2-3 more years of bullshit even with a vaccine. She changes her mind ever week or two, some people are like puppets on a string.

For real, I had it and never would have known if I didn’t have to get tested because of work. They say at least 50% of people have no symptoms. At my work there were close to 20 people who got infected and only one was bedridden for weeks. For most people it was no big deal, for a few others it was like the flu. Even most 80+ year old nursing home residents are back to normal after a week or two.

The virus is real, it does kill some people, but it’s not nearly as bad as some people make it sound.

Damage is generally reversible following narcan administration. Opiate overdose follows the ingestion of a dose well above the users tolerance threshold. These overdoses primary occur in response to an unregulated market existing wherein dealers will cut product with fentanyl for an extra buck. I don’t think H and fent should be legalised (though decriminalised for very small amounts), but safe injection site centres and/or mandated government handouts (like they have in the Netherlands) would prevent a large portion of lethal overdoses, I can link an ample body of data to back this up.

Because cardiac damage is (generally) somewhat irreversible. When lung function starts to deteriorate within sick people the issue is serious, you can bounce back after abuse within reason. If you’re lungs have shut down it’s very difficult to bounce back from that. If you’ve developed cardiomyopathy the situation is dire, you’re at serious risk for lethal arrhythmia. Covid is inducing permenant cardiorespiratory damage, strange neurological symptoms and permenant, unexplained cognitive deficits within a decent portion of those who recover.

We know the long term rammifications pertaining to drug use, covid has the potential to be far more sinister than you give it credit for.

Anyway that’s me done, it’s late here and I’m signing off for the night

Let’s just say it is 0.5% of people that die. Many of them older. The mask isn’t just about keeping you safe. It is about keeping others safe. It is about keeping the amount of people who catch it down. It is about not overwhelming hospitals, so people can get the care they need to keep the recovery rate where it is.

If using a mask keeps the total cases down, that is huge. 0.5% of the US population is 1,650,000 people. If we open everything up, and take no precautions, it is likely that almost every one gets it, and the death total is about what I estimated. Maybe masks and social distancing only drop that by 50%. That is 800,000 people.

Look at the whole picture. You are holding an irrational position. Others have shown you that. I am not going to respond further as it is a waste of my time trying to convince an irrational person who has picked a hill to die on.

We have those in Ottawa, and they had them in BC for a long time and that is where people are dying left and right from ODs.

Only one of my co-workers isn’t back to normal after COVID. You make it sound like everyone is fucked for life and that just isn’t the case.

But how will he impress the three people who might see him wearing a mask? It’s not easy being edgy.

It seems by my observation that we are getting another wave of “anti-intellectual is cool” coming back (like the 90s slacker thing). That should be a easy thing for him to pull off. I guess the mask is a bit counter to the look though.

Yeah I always thought “stupid and selfish is the new sexy”

Another day sans-mask. Feels great, too! Breathing fresh air and not looking retarded. You guys should try it sometime!

Oh, no, wait. That would go against the wishes of Dr. Fauci, WHO, and the CDC. Better wait until they give me the green light.

Do you think we should do another shutdown?

I don’t want to pry in your private life, but I hope your father-in-law is doing better. If you want to give an update, give one.

I don’t wear a mask either, when I’m not around people. Hmmmmm…

There are a lot of people who do though, I see people here wearing masks when they are walking outside, waiting at a bus stop, even driving alone. It’s pretty stupid. On top of that there are some places that you have to wear a mask outside, some parts of Florida and other places here and there. Even Poland with their right wing governments had mandatory masks outside for a while.

You forgot rational thought in your list.

I don’t know why I keep feeling the need to respond to a troll, even after I said I was done.

It’s going to be hard to eat that cake with a mask on for sure, won’t be much of a party.

There are riots in the streets.
My state is mostly open and I am grateful for it, but NYC isn’t. Many major metropolitan areas are re-locking down and it is chaos. In too many places you still cannot go to church, but you can protest, riot and loot.
I am not cautioning about what may happen, I am observing what is happening. I cannot be paranoid about facts.

No not everyone is out to get us, but it doesn’t take many to make a situation intolerable. And it’s already intolerable, it doesn’t have to get worse. If we took the city and state names off the reports I would have guessed this was Palestine, not the U.S.

People are dying, they are getting hurt everyday from sheer madness. It’s got to stop.
