What's Your Favorite Whiskey?

No Knob Creek drinkers? Mmmmm. Maker’s Mark when money is tight.

Can’t stand Maker’s Mark - over priced kerosene. LOVE Knob Creek.

My favorite is Woodford Reserve.
Will probably be hard to get in Japan, but I managed to get the local liquor store to special order Knob Creek for me. How much higher does Woodford Reserve run? I’m still in the first year of my first business and splurging on whiskey is fun but, unfortunately, not a write-off.

I did have some really bad Thai whisky once out of a plastic bottle. I got my eyesight back about 12 hours later.

I drank a lot of whiskey buckets when i was over there. I think they call the most popular brand sam song, or something like that. It’s rumored to have amphetamines in it but either way it fucks you up.

Knob Creek is my consistent fallback. For scotch, I like the Laphroaig 10 – it’s saltier and rawer and I like that. Bruichladdich is excellent, as it the Glenmorangie aged in sherry barrels. Oban is lovely, too. Lots of great choices for different occasions.

But bourbon and scotch are wholly different moods for me. And having grown up in the South, I was weaned on bourbon.

So, off the back of the favourite cigar thread, I’d like to add a whisky/whiskey appreciation thread.

For anyone who doesn’t know the difference, whisky is from Scotland, whiskey is from Ireland!

Now my taste in cigars may be cheap, but my taste in whisky is a little more expensive.

I really enjoy Islay single malts - especially - and at around £450 per bottle quite rarely, Laphroaig 30 Year old.

So how about everyone else?
I’m not very experienced with whiskey, but I really love Dalwhinnie(sp). Very smooth.

Yes.

When I’m on a budget Jim Beam or Rebel Yell does the job.

Jameson. Or if I’m feeling classy, Tullamore Dew.

I used to be a huge Jack Daniel’s fan, but slowly Jameson has started overtaking it… I rarely drink Jack anymore.

Gotta agree there - If I’m drinking Whiskey it’s usually Jameson.

Jameson it is

Im a crown royal fan myself. Would love to acutally try some of the premium expensive stuff one day though.

Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel is the best I’ve had.

irish i’m surprised you’re a jameson’s drinker…thought it would be bushmill’s for you…when summer comes around try jack daniel’s on ice with bitters. a great drink when it’s hot.

Never had it. I’ll try it this week.

Lately it’s Bowmore Legend (Islay, single malt). Inexpensive (~$22 a bottle), easy to find, and a nice peaty flavor.

Chalk up another vote for Knob Creek and Woodford Reserve.

Nothing beats Evan Williams for the cost. Tastes great on its own and is cheap enough that you dont feel bad mixing it.

That is good stuff.

I can always enjoy a good scotch. I’ll cast votes for The Glenlivet 18 Year Old, The Glenlivet Nadurra 16 Year Old and MacAllan 18.

I love bourbon. Maker’s Mark was a long time favorite. Current favorites are Canadian Club Classic 12 year and Jim Beam Black. If you like Beam but haven’t tried the Black you have to give it a shot. It’s extremely smooth. Both of these are relatively inexpensive, at least compared to other higher end whiskeys (IMO).

Canadian Club Reserve is fantastic also.

Another good Islay malt but - $22 a bottle!?! I got to move countries!

Here I am just a few hundred miles from the distillery - I can drive there and back in a day without much trouble, and a bottle at my local liquor store will cost me £22 - Nearly $45!!!

Bookers neat straight from the freezer

I love Gentleman Jack, I think it’s my favorite. I like the Glenlivet 12 and 18 year scotches, ok enough. But out and out I am a Whiskey fan. I like the regular Jack as well. Scotch just tastes to thin, it has no meat to it in my opinion. Gentleman Jack has a nice buttery, nutty, with a twinge of sour taste that I can just sip all day and all night.

I am surprised people like Jameson’s, that’s some harsh shit. And Knob Creek kind of tastes like ashes mixed with everclear. By far the worst whiskey I have ever had was Cuttysark. If you’ve never had it, your lucky. I’d rather drink Barton’s Whiskey, it’s better quality. It even aged almost 18 hours.

Anyhow, I am not knocking other people’s opinions. This is just what I think of particular whiskeys. I love whiskey…God Bless Sour Mash.

I used to like Bushmills and a Molson Golden or Moosehead chaser while toking on a nice fatty of red haired sense, but that took it toll on me.

That particular mix of tastes, textures and effects was my favorite though.
