Tool and Korn. Old Mettalica Garage and Lightening[/quote]

I f’ing love tool. They’re my favorite band all time… but can they be considered metal…? I guess maybe opiate, salival, undertow, and aenima (a stretch for that one) could be considered metal… I’m not completely sure… such a complex blend of progressive rock, alternative metal, art rock, and progressive metal… it’s so hard to find a label for them.

You pretty much nailed how to describe Tool.

Have you heard Pucifer and their song Cuntry Boner? Fucking hysterical lol.

x2

I love TOOL. (The band)

Song IS hilarious…

“Kenny Rogers called me crass then I fucked his big white ass.”

I saw Dio back in '88 I think, when he was on tour promoting ‘Dream Evil’.

Awesome concert and lightshow. Craig Goldy is a hell of a guitar player, also.

The “Dream Evil” and “Sacred Heart” albums, no matter how good the songwriting was, just sucked due to the cheesy studio production back then. Hair metal was at its peak, so I guess Dio followed suit! After the 90’s, he went in a heavier direction (probably due to the heavier grunge stuff driving the airwaves) thank God.

I’ve hesitated posting this. The band is Pelican. They’re hard to define exactly. Some say sludge, or slow-core, or stoner metal…whatever. All I know is this instrumental is an epic churning mass of awesome.

I am kind of surprised no one has mentioned (Joke)Arnold’s band yet, Austrian Death Machine, also Anthrax, Iron Maiden, Machinehead, Motorhead, Pantera, Sevendust, all good shit.

I hear you guys on the cookie monster vocals, but there ARE some bad ass songs out there. I saw Cannibal Corpse yesterday and while I am still listening to all of their albums, they have some pretty brutal songs. The vocals go along nicely with it. Listen to this very popular song. I just can’t stop banging my head to some parts.

Another good “cookie monster vocals” song. It is just funny to say that this album is nothing in terms of brutality compared to their last 2 releases.

How about some epic metal? This song always gets me pumped before some Kroc rows, seriously. I start as soon as the vocals start, PR city.

More epicness.

Fantasy metal, woot.

Goodness.

Chuck’s prog band Control Denied

More cookie-ness by Cryptopsy

More to come, I actually have to upload a couple because they are obscure enough that no one has uploaded 'em yet.

Pelican is the shit! so fucking heavy!

I don’t know about the Growling/cookie monsetr vocals, i just allways enjoyed them. For most bands i listen to there is no problem singing along or understanding the lyrics. I guess your ear adjusts or something.

Being from Norway, Black/death metal is a known thing. Maybe being exposed to it often and early is what adjusted me to the growling? i don’t know…

I just think of it as any other instrument. There are many ways of doing them, and there are MANY really crappy vocals out there.

Some different examples of what i call good use of extreme vocals:

(you won’t understand that last one cos its in norwegian, but to me its perfectly clear)

wow i forgot to add Primordial to my favourites list! Epic Folk-ish band from Ireland. Slow, heavy and great vocals.

I like when there is a mix of screaming and actual singing. Right now I think Killswitch Engage probably pulls it off the best. I really like their cover off Holy Diver.

I also love tool. They are currently in high rotation in my car, as is Alice in Chains, and Five Finger Death Punch.

Just wanted to post this as one of the absolutely greatest headbanging songs of all time:

UDO!

Anyone who is a metal fan should check out “Anvil, The Story of Anvil” on dvd. It’s worth your time.

I forgot to mention Bring Me The Horizon, the comedown. The groove is killer and the drummer is great.

That Dying Fetus, we are your enemy was a great tune.

It’s funny, the older I get, the heavier I like my music. If this kind of agressive metal was out when I was In high school I would be in jail right now lol. My friends think I’m nuts, “how do you listen to that shit” they ask me…because it’s HEAVY!..okay, okay, I’ll put on some Aerosmith for you, fer fuck sakes. I still like Aerosmith btw but it just doesen’t get my blood pumping.

This is truth.

Metal (and squats) help diffuse all that anger built from life experience.

I little power violence if you’re into that sort of thing.

OK I uploaded some videos. This song is probably one of my favorites, ever. From a pretty much unknown band called The Crowns (formerly Crown of Thorns). Kind of Swedish death metal with a little bit of black.

And here’s another one of an unknown band, Centinex.

I’m a big fan of Melo death metal… Sacramentum, Carcass (like one album, Heartwork), DT, At the Gates, In Flames, The Crown, etc etc. Lots of hidden bands in this genre.
