What's this Athlete’s Bodyfat %?

I don’t think most methods of measuring body fat are Especially accurate other than hydrostatic weighing or very expensive bio electrical impedance methods. Bodybuilders, especially those in contest condition, are not physically capable of much in the way of stressful athletic performance.

It is Not helpful for a performance athlete to have ridiculously low levels of body fat. Their joints would hurt, they wouldn’t have any cushioning to prevent injury, not to mention, if they truly did have body fat levels similar to a bodybuilder, they would likely feel pretty cold all the time.

I’m not saying anyone is intentionally lying, merely that no one really needs to have such low body fat as a performance athlete, as such, they don’t need to have the most accurate methods of testing.

And that’s why I’m agreeing with you even tho he’s lean I don’t think this is 10% or under. He’d have abs crazy striations the whole 9 and while obviously lean and muscular I don’t see anything under 12-14%

Yes working on it now just doing some research he probably already knows what I’ll send I think he was just being funny

I really don’t think it’s many NBA players in the single digit range when it comes to bodyfat% most don’t have abs just lean torsos/flat stomachs not really veiny either.

Definitely know the NBA isn’t doing accurate BF% testing they do calipers

Nba uses calipers for bf% testing so they are inaccurate

Thanks, Stu. What about this:

Thanks I’m going to see if I can get these 10-15 pounds lean as possible but again I know being my height and over 200 pounds lean will be hard

I just wanted to paddle back in here to mention… there’s not a huge difference between these pics other than a little more body fat currently, which means you lost some muscle since you’re the same bodyweight.

Trying to gain more weight right now probably isn’t the best plan. Dropping some fat, getting leaner, and then building back up (with improved insulin sensitivity and less likelihood of fat gain) would be more effective in the long run than, say, bulking up right now, hitting 220+ again, and then cutting back down.

Also, you keep talking about wanting to be 200 and “lean”/“relatively lean”. Those are kinda vague terms, so just be aware of what that actually means. I saw you called your above left pic “shredded”. Would you say you’re relatively lean now?

As a verified fish head, I have to say this took me by surprise.

Yes I am the exact same weight in these two pictures, the first one was a good cut from 225 which I kept alot of muscle, the second was losing a bunch of muscle and 15 pounds with no weights for 3 months currently trying to regain the strength since gyms are back open.

Oh noooo lol I never plan on bulking again that was a huge mistake,I just kind of want to see if I can do a body recomp and eat clean and lift hard and see what it will get me,I know cutting would be the best route but I really don’t want to lose anymore weight right now.

No I wasn’t shredded in bodybuilding terms but as in everyday terms amongst normal people I was pretty lean. And yes again I just meant I’m relatively lean amongst society not in bodybuilding terms.

My thing is what do you think the two bodyfat% are in those pics? And do you think I could do a recomp instead of cutting?

Why do you care about bf%? You pick up chicks with abs, not a bf%.

If you haven’t lifted in 3 months, no problemo it will be easy. I know, many people will claim that you cannot lose fat and gain muscle at the same time. It is just untrue. And I’m not talking about my, or some of the guys here personal evidence.

“In the scientific realm, body recomposition is more the norm than the exception” Christopher Barakat. I suggest you check iron Culture latest podcast about this.

Body recomp is real, but the leaner you are, the more advanced you are, the hardest it is. But coming back from a detrain period, you’ll have no worries. Go in a slight deficit or at maintenance and enjoy

Because I just want to kind of get a estimate of where I’m at that’s all. I really don’t care for a crazy 6-8 pack just a nice lean torso is cool too

But why?

Yes and I lost a nice amount of strength so I’m hoping with a pretty clean diet limited cardio and hard training I can put on some solid weight with very minimal fat, I definitely know body comp is real I know two guys who absolutely did it just takes some discipline and thank you I will definitely look into that podcast. What would estimate my bodyfat on those two pictures of me?

Because I want to get an estimate. You got one for me?

Really not a pro at this. 16% ?

You have no love handles almost in the left. Guessing you probably stock on your stomach. Don’t look like you gained much fat, just lost some muscle. I’ve never tried to bother with this anyway because I don’t have a common fat distribution

Not one that’s worth your time considering, I have zero knowledge on body fat percentages. I was just curious as to your motivation, and what you’d do with an accurate answer if you had one.

Oh I’d probably adjust my diet even more if I could get a good range from some people that’s all
