What's a Good Gym Worth?

I pay 25 a month…120 a year, for all sizes of bands, we have 150 pounds of chains, an ER rack, a Mono lift, a powerlifting room, just for us so we can blare death metal. No GHR, no Reverse Hyper, and all the power bars have a camber to them… Oh well, the other gym thats eve close in cost of 62 a month, but I have to get a punch card because they have a reverse hyper and my back hates me currently. I hope I impress the big PL crew that lives around me so maybe I can train with them.

$150 a month for the Crossfit gym (yeah, yeah) and $120 a year (student discount) for a globogym close to my apartment.

Thanks everyone, seems $40 is a good base line rate.
I did find a Crossfit gym locally that wants $250 a month, someone needs to shove a kettle bell up that dudes butt. $250 a month better come with a hooker and some blow.

$30 if it has the mindset and is fully equipped and doesn’t play music.
$40 if it is has that and plenty of equipment or isnt very busy.
$50 if it has the previously stated and opens at 4am (maybe 5) and closes at 12 (maybe 11) at night.

One thing to avoid, is the cliq shit. I’ve gone from two PL gyms, onto a high school gym (that has an olympic lifting set up) just to avoid the good ole boy mafia shit I seem to run into at these gyms.

While pussies annoy me at fitness clubs, having some 140 lb country boy with a benchshirt sitting on the bench for half an hour watching his super strong buddies do a million pound squat is more annoying. What’s worse is when those places are cramped, (and the two I went to were), you feel like a fucking asshole trying to shoo people off equipment when you’re trying to get in and get out.

I want to do my lifts, and will adjust reasonably for other people, but if you are all going to treat it like a 5 hour lifting night hang out, and take turns doing reps and then staring at eachother in awe…fuck that.

The other thing is alot of pl gyms dont have the work ethic. They say they open at 5, you show up, and its closed. They are usually open at 11 but say they close at 9. It ends up turning into some like 4-5 hour martial arts class type thing, cuz every dude goes in that window of opportunity and all lifting with eachother. As cool as that sounds, not allof have time to hang out with 10 dudes and take turns lifting. If they’d just apply some Prussian discipline, make a set schedule, people could actually do splits in these places and wouldnt have to pile in 100 deep every alternating Tuesday.

Make sure you got plenty of space, and plenty of set up, otherwise its not worth it, for you or the lifter.

I’m an employee at the decently equipped YMCA in my hometown, so my membership is free.

At the University of Whitewater, where I go to college, I paid $95 for the WHOLE year.
Amazingly equipped; has to be for the top D3 football school in the usa

Wow,and I thought I was getting ripped off. I was promised 15 bucks a months but im actually paying 21.50. Theres Chains,Fatbars,1 Power Rack,1 Squat Rack,Some Ruski Kettle bells, and a Prowler. The downside? Its ridiculously small. The owner felt that to make some extra money,he would use the extra room where the Power Rack and the powerlifting equipment should be as a miniature MMA/Boxing gym. Which is a cool idea if the gym wasent the size of 4 trailers. Im strongly considering quitting because of the size and because the owner is a douche sometimes.[/quote]

I’m kinda conflicted by this.

On, the one hand, paying just $21.50 a month for a gym sounds great.

But, the fact that you measure square footage by the number of trailers the gym could hold worries me.

You have to figure out if this will be a business (Welcome to Crossfit!) or a lifestyle.

To make $10000 a month, the crossfit guy will have to attract 40 pretentious yuppy assholes with more money than sense.

You’ll have to attract 250.
