Remember those supplements of yester-year that were a craze, the next big thing but today aren’t even a blimp on the the radar. Here’s a few that I can really remember.
Betagen by EAS–Stuff was like a $100 for a months supply. Basically I think it was mix of creatine and HMB? Speaking of HMB, it used to be the next big thing.
Ultimate Orange–It’s still out there, but back in the day everyone was swigging on it at the gym.
i remember reading somewhere that creatine cannot be absorbed or stored in a liquid state.
Ultimate Orange back in the day was a COMPLETELY different product than the one of today. It’s all a marketing deal now.
All of the stuff you described as the product of the “times” which isn’t a blip on the radar now is still good imo.
I think the reason things fall off is mainly because people have higher expectations than what the products really give and this leads to people getting excited about a product then calming down when it’s not a miracle drug. This makes the product less exciting and less marketable.
Creatine Monohydrate has been around for a long time, but you don’t hear of people raving over it, yet it is probably one of the best supplements ever created. Reason is people have heard of it and aren’t excited anymore, so companies need something else to market and come out with “the next big thing”
Did that make sense, I feel like I typed a lot to get a simple opinion across lol
many others that came along and went away (or became very small volume sellers in the bb world anyway)
I’d add to DG’s comment that in some other cases people often ascribe their results to a supplement when in reality the supplement is making a marginal contribution at best, and their results are influenced by all those other variables they forget about.
e.g. “since taking x i’m doing much better”
(not mentioning they’re sleeping better, new training program, eating more eggs etc etc)
Right. The only supplement I’ve ever taken that has had an obvious effect on my training is old fashioned Creatine Monohydrate and BCAAs. Cheap, effective, and reliable. Yet how many ads do you see for those? Not many if any. It’s all overpriced “pre workout intensifiers”, “test boosters”, and the newest “fat burners”.
Smilax seemed big at one point. Now its tweaked and sold as 17hd I think. One that comes to mind for me is “Hotstuff”. It seemed to me to be a great deal with all popular supplements contained, and upgrades added on a regular basis. Its back on market now. As far as test boosters this stuff was off the chart.
