Fad Supplements?

I was recently talking to someone about what was being pushed in the early 90’s as far as the latest and greatest (for me that was the time I started to even pay attention to supplements, etc).

I remember L-Carnitine and Chromium Picolinate were THE things that you saw everywhere (along with LOW/NO fat, HIGH carb recommendations).

Have these two things fallen out of favor? I know there are more exciting (and useful) things today, but were all the touted benefits overblown, or are they so common you just don’t hear about them (like Vitamin C).

Any other ‘faddish’ supplements that are not in favor today?

Just curious.

Remember Colostrum?! It was supposedly in MOther’s milk and made babies grow at such an accelerated rate!!! -lol.

L-Carnitine is banned in Canada.

those protein powders… Who the hell needs more protein anyway? I get enough with all the fruits and veggies I eat.

smilax just a few drops under your tongue. I remember taking it but I can’t remember why. Testosterone booster? It was ginseng or something.

But if you cook them you destroy their enzymes so be careful.

Although I am not old enough to remember them, weren’t beef liver tabs huge before?

I’ve never seen anybody with them as of late; fallen out of favor or just replaced with powders?

Smilax…lol… I remember that one too!

Boron
Vanadyl Sulphate

If you were really hardcore, you bought the Cybergenics kit! Thanks to Franco Santoriello… I (shamefully admit) wasted my money!! LMAO But hey… I was in high school and would have eaten sh!t !

Box of Cybergenics only 50.00. I went through at least 5 boxes of this stuff before I realized all I needed to do was eat.

Ribose?

noted.

Myostatin blockers were the hot thing for about 4 months. Then people caught on that you needed to have the myostatin mutation from birth to see massive gains.

Interesting side-note: they’ve been working on developing treatments for muscular dystrophy with myostatin inhibitors; these inhibitors were actually injected antibodies to the myostatin protein. Work in mice has shown promise, but the only human trial I know of wasn’t hugely successful. I think there is another one in the works at the moment though.

cybergenics man I remember my buddies doing the 14 page workout that came with it. Metabolol is still around It’s one of the few I think the name is different. Met something?

Adds at least ten pounds of LBM without changing anything you are currently doing. It’s what the pros do!
