Take advice I get from others with a grain of salt (especially if they dont look the part).
-
Spend time experimenting with new ideas and methods; incorporating what works for me and what doesn’t. Don’t knock it till you try it.
-
Gained a better understanding that not everyone has the same goals I have and to not impose my personal goals on others. On the flip side, reject advice from people who don’t have the same goals as myself (I still may experiment with their ideas regardless if their explanation makes sense).
-
I can do fasted cardio and sprints in the morning without losing muscle or strength as well as directly after lifting.
-
Diet is almost always the missing piece of the puzzle.
-
Lift as intensely as possible each session using my anger as fuel.
-
Supplements have their place but cannot be put before proper nutrition and food.
-
Compete with people better than me and compete with last weeks version of myself.
-
Have defined, clear cut goals.
-
Ignore and seperate away those who negatively impact my lifestyle.
#8 - “compete with last weeks version of myself”… I like that
diet is 90% of the equation

Don’t try to reinvent the wheel. Tradition is tradition for a reason. We stand on the shoulders of giants.

You’ve got to have FUN, and really enjoy the bodybuilding lifestyle if you want to see any kind of long-term success.
-
Black people are just better than white people at bodybuilding 99% of the time. I’m not saying it is entirely racial, as I believe this is largely a cultural thing, but it is what it is.

Back Squats are one of the (if not the) best exercise I’ve ever done
-
Heavy is relative - strive to make heavy today light tomorrow
-
I’d rather learn for myself than take the word of some schmuck writing and article that is mainly geared towards advertising some product. I like to see what works for me through hypothesis and trial and error.

Mr Popular just might be racist - but it is what it is

There’s nothing like being in a crowded gym alone … if you don’t understand that now, keep at it, someday you will.

So training and rest make up the other 10%? Fuck that, I’ll just eat right and get 90% fucking huge.
Who’s with me?

Where the hell have you been?

Your legs look pretty good, but no one component makes up 90% of the significance in making progress. What if you accidentally made it 91 or 89%?
I don’t find it useful to attempt to delineate things that way. Productive training, intelligent eating and sufficient recovery are all 3 necessary for optimal gains.
Welcome back home BTW, if indeed you are.
The most important lesson I’ve learned is to follow principles rather than programs, and listen to my own body rather than the advice of the “experts”. Cookie cutter programs were helpful when I first started out, but customization and self-knowledge are the key.

im trying to say that all these fancy programs on here are great and they work, but really, IN MY OPINION and from what i have gleaned from doing this for a while, as long as you train with intensity, have some variation in what you do, and get some rest,it really doesnt matter what you do in the gym. if your diet is dialed in your going to grow, period.

In that case, I guess diet really makes up 33.33333% as does rest and training…

sorry for hijacking your thread OP.
that statement i made is predicated on what i said before it, which was that as long as you have intensity and variation, i really dont think it does matter as long as you are eating with just as much intensity. people not making progress need to worry about food more than using a NASA-calibrated stopwatch to time your rep tempos on preacher curls down to the nanosecond…

Out with a torn rotator cuff. My thread in TCA has little detail in it. Thanks for noticing I’ve been gone, lol.

There is a huge difference between saying there are 100 different ways to skin a cat and saying it doesn’t matter if the cat gets skinned.
bad form will catch up to you
not stretching will catch up to you
Train your triceps
Have someone who knows criticize your form, and learn from it.
I learned that I’m still learning too much to post what I’ve learned.
One thing I’m come to learn recently though is how to train in a crowded gym. It’s not the end of the world if a certain piece of equipment is being used…just improvise!
If you wanted that upright seat to do your shoulder presses…do them standing! That lat pulldown machine is taken…do some weighted pull ups I guarantee there’s a station open…etc.
