What should i look to major in to became a strength and conditioning coach

I am heading into my senior year of high school, I wish to pressure a career as a sports and conditioning coach, I was wonder what majors and minors should I be taking to achieve this goal

I’m sure physiology, kinesiology and biology would be helpful majors. I came into this with just a general background in science, but read everything you can. The following classes are MUST-HAVE’s.

BUS 102b How to Live on a piss-poor salary while working 60 hour weeks

COMM 102b How to communicate with numbnut administrators without resorting to violence

Have fun.

Pretty much any exercise related degree will work. The most important thing (not in my eyes though) is the CSCS certification by the National Strength and Conditioning Association. You have to be a senior in college to take the exam though so you have time to prepare. The exam consists of one part basic kinesiology and the other spotting, and form. Just make sure you take kinesiology classes for the exam. I have a degree in recreation with a minor in sports leadership, I just made sure to take elective classes which would help in my career. Make sure to volunteer to be a student strength coach at the university and then intern at other schools in the summer. Remember getting a good job is a lot of who you know.

thanks for your replys

biomechanics is a wise choice…

I hope you love strength & conditioning, because in this field you work easily 60 hours and get paid dirt compared to what the sport coaches make. As for major I went with Exercise & Sport Science, but most health related majors will be just fine.
