What Should I Focus On?

I want to compete again in October 2009. I would love any input as to where I need the most work. Aside from overall size. These pics are from a contest in July. I weighed in at 180. I am 5’9" and presently weigh about 215.

Thanks in advance,

Brent

Outer quad sweep, TRAPS, Shoulders!

Thanks Rhino…

Could you post a few other poses so we can really evaluate everything?

how can you tell he needs shoulder/trap work from a front double bi pose?

but i seriously think you should do some neck work. everything looks good but your neck appears to be extremely skinny and makes you appear less massive overall i think.

More child-bearing squats in the woods… possibly find a bigger child

One REp what’s a good way to work on neck thickness I to suffer a bit from pencil neck syndrome.

couple more

The rest of the mandatories would help us in giving you advice…

One thing though: You still need to fill out your frame (obviously, but imo you don’t have any overly visible weaknesses atm other than your neck… Gain another 30 lbs of muscle and then it’ll be easier to tell you what to focus on).

Good work thus far, btw.

.

Thanks everyone. I have been avoiding neck exercises but I definetly need to start hitting it…

Well, I think some heavy trap work (obviously shrugs, rack pulls and deadlifts with a backwards shrug after each lockout, etc) will take care of that…

are you white?

let’s see… your physique is well balanced.

but you can always use more shoulders and traps

You have a very well balanced physique. I think just adding additional size is the way to go…if I had to nitpick as you know bodybuilders do, these would be my suggestions:

back thickness and more width is never a bad thing. lol

bigger pecs

arms look good in the side chest pose, but in front double bi it looks like you can add in some more size there. Biceps seem to be pretty good, tri’s could probably use some more meat. I struggle here too…long ass arms get frustrating! lol

more sweep to the legs, but your lines in your legs look great. Hamstrings and calves seem to be a weak point for everybody so you could probably throw more size on there as well. Legs looked VERY conditioned tho…good job man.

I’d say just more size dood, you have great lines and if you have added muscle with those lines and conditioning you will make some great improvements.

Nice pics by the way…VERY conditioned and your color was spot on it seems at least from these pics.

Which tan did you use if you don’t mind me asking? I’ve used pro tan for my first show but not enough…then jan tana for the middle two and I liked it, but I think you need a good base for it to look great…then dream tan for the last show. I thought I looked good and it was DARK but it didn’t shine and pop like the jan tana does.

Glad to see another bodybuilder around here.

Nice transition. haha

CC thanks I will add in more heavy trap work.

SD I am very white at the moment.

DG thanks. I guess the bottom line is I need to get bigger everywhere.
I should be about 230-235 by the end of January. I am hoping to compete 10-12 lbs heavier next year.

I used 7 coats of protan. I put on 3 coats Thurs. 3 coats Fri. and one Sat. morning. I dod not rinse any off. I also used a sock to apply it only took about 10 min per coat.

Anyone have any suggestions on exercises for quad sweep.
I do not have access to any machines.

Thanks again.

Brent

right on man. Your color was great and the added mass will do you good. I’m in a similar position I can see some weaknesses, but it’s just adding overall size in general before I start REALLLLLYYYY nit picking myself. lol

I’ve found that any leg movement such as press/squats, or similar… performed with a narrow stance will give greater sweep vs a traditional or wide stance.

Honestly my sweep really started coming around once I started doing ATG squats .vs. just paralell.

DG

great…thanks I will give that a shot.

Because I know what to look for…and his back shot seals the deal.

overall good job! keep doing it the way your doing it.
