I’m 18 years old and I’d like to gain some muscle and I have a little weight to lose (10-15 lbs?). My question is on how to plan my diet. I’ve read that I should eat around 55% Carbs, 25% Protein and 20% Fat, but how do you plan a diet like that? I’m about 6’ and 165 lbs. How much and what should I be eating? I’m at college so I eat at our food service here which can be good or not I guess. They have quite a few choices and everything is labeled with nutrition info, but its still somewhat limiting.
Thanks.

Think basic, heavy movements. I have to congratulate you that you were thinking about diet FIRST.That’s simply outstanding!

At 6’ 165 I don’t see why you would want to lose 15 pounds. You are fairly skinny already. Maybe you want to lose some bodyfat… I think you should really think about trying to gain muscle more than losing anything. The more muscle you have the easier it is to lean up. I can’t see why you would want to be a lean 6’ 150 pounder. You would look like a twig. If I were you I would try to put on 20 or so pounds of muscle before trying to lean up.
Golly, if only T-mag had an article or two about how to eat in college… boy, that would be handy. (Hint: Type in “School Days” in the T-mag search engine.) And if they only had an article or two on foods. (Hint: Listen to Mufasa, skim the previous issues section.) If only T-mag ran articles with sample menus for a variety of diets. (Hint: we do.)
I’m just being as asshole. Seriously, T-mag has dozens of diets all set up for you. Just do some research and fire up the printer. I wish T-mag had been around when I was 18.
