Getting some chucks in tomorrow!
Nike Air- the flexible, pull-on kind that are relatively flat, but moderate arch support- almost like being barefoot. The best BB shoes I’ve had yet…
I’m with Jerome… I go barefoot. I feel I get a better balance. I can power through the movement more intensely like I want to drive my legs right through the floor.
These responses have been hilarious. Ive squatted over 600 multiple times in chuck taylors and once over 700. Ive gone way over 700 multiple times with bands plus bar weight. Chucks are what you should squat in. Basketball shoes suck. dont wear them. Chucks are cheaper anyway. And you shouldnt have to order them. Go to the dope smokers store and they will have them. I know that some of you know where that is. Its where you buy your hemp necklaces, bracelets, and beanies.
I wear a pair of Asics racing flats. They have a thin, almost flat sole and, unlike Chucks, they don’t say “I’m a social outcast”.
Either barefoot or wrestling shoes. Since my rack and weights were moved intot he garage (and thus now is rather cold), I don’t do barefoot, at least until summer.
I’ve only recently started lifting heavy but I can tell you on my ME day on Monday I was trying to find my 1 RM for squats and on my last attempt I damn near blew out my knee because the side of my nike x-trainer’s gave out and my foot slipped over the side of my shoe. I will be getting some Chucks ASAP.
If the ankles are feeling a bit gimpy (too many sprains) then I go with the Chucks otherwise the Adidas Sambas indoor shoes are my squat and all around lifting shoe. Flat, low, with a little lateral support.
I’d go in barefoot during squats if I could but my current gym freaks out when you try to do that.
S
how long do you guys find your chucks last?
mine seem to start splitting within a 6 weeks or so
Goldberg,
That’s some funny shit bro!
addidas olympic weightlifting shoes, laters pk
I squat barefoot.
depends on the floor surface, but my Adddias Ironworks wore to the wood at the back in 2 weeks!
But I am still using em even thoiugh the back end has worn into the wood. I will get em resoled one day
The shoe you wear to squat depends on how you squat and the stance width.
Frontsquatting in chucks isn’t all that great
hahahahahahahahahaha, yeah i always pay attention to what my shoes say about me in the gym…if the movements i do in the gym aren’t enough to say stay away from me, i don’t think anyone’s looking at my shoes.
Hey boondoc:
I was referring to what shoes would be comfortable and practical to wear for squats, not the fashion aspect. I’ll leave that to the guys who do bicep curls and chest every time I see them at the gym, talking on their cell phones. I too would squat barefoot if given the choice but the resulting stink may drop people within a certain radius… j/k… I hope…
I’m off to get me a pair of adidas ironworks or break out my old Chucks;
I know I have a pair somewhere…
Like Cool said it depends what kind of squatter you are.If your a wide squatter then a flat shoe like chucks work good.If your more of a narrow squatter and use more quads a shoe with a heel like an olympic shoe will work.Just two diffrent schools of thought when it comes to shoes.Dr. squat Fred Hatfield used puma olympic lifting shoes, had a narrow stance and squatted over 1000lbs.A guy like Chuck Vogelpol another 1000+ squatter uses a very wide stance and wears chucks.
Go to the Chuck Taylor website and do a dealer search. It lists every store that carries them. There was only one store in my town that had them.
I just ordered some Adidas Delta X shoes for weight training. I’ve never tried them but they look like they are padded but not too soft and they look very comfortable. They seem to be designed for anti-slippage. I’ll know soon enough; they are martial arts shoes but looked functional and comfy for my needs.
i know jay. DonM made a comment about wearing chuck taylors and being a “social outcast”.
adidas gazelles…way old school
