Hoping to get a second opinion on what type of training I should be doing next. Currently playing football here in Aus. with this week being my last for the season - grand final this week. I have been rotating throughout the season CT’s in season training and CW’s NB3 program. Both work great at maintaining strength levels, while I’m playing.
Now Since it’s coming up to off-season I was thinking of giving Joel Marions training for maximal size until Xmas.
Do you think this program will suit my needs, i.e. building strength and size while getting away from the stress of football for a while?
I would do CTs OVT! It’s by far the best for size and strength gains. The RRD is great but myself and others have seen much better size and strength gains with OVT.
For a really good plan, do 8 wks. of OVT, then 8 of CWs ABBH, you’ll add insane size and strength and functional strength as well. Work in some mag10 cycles to that and enjoy.
Was going to try out westside after Xmas. Just wanting to have a break and maybe bulk up a bit and relax. Then after Xmas get back into more sport specific stuff.
Here is my plan up until Xmas.
4 weeks of workout based on Waterbury ideas example.
4 weeks of OVT
23 days of ABBH
Or do you think I should just go straight into westside?
Rankster,
your plan looks solid to me. Re the westside, I threw that in there as I thought that was more suited to your needs than Joels. Let me know how it goes for you.
westside is not sport specific, its a general speed/strength conjugated periodization geared for exceling in the power lifts.
I would go with “periodization that works” by staley, the first part. like west side but more fun and more realted to you. dont do any BB stuff - you’ll get slower.
Thanks guys for all the feedback - it’s great this forum isn’t it.
Damm, I totally forgot about that program “periodization that works” by staley. It was in my to do list when it came out and then I forgot about it.
S-man your talking about phase one (6 weeks) max strength correct? What do you think about doing this for 6 weeks and then doing a workout based on Waterbury ideas example for another 6 weeks? Then after Xmas get back to more sport specific stuff. Basically we have now until the first day of Jan.2004 to do what ever we want.
BTW have you tried “periodization that works”?
