So there’s this CrossFit-like competition where the squat, deadlift, and bench are included as the powerlifting portion of the event. There is a points system for how much weight is lifted, and I believe the weight is kind of skewed (I’m getting tired of these bench press boys always ruining it for us heavy squatters and deadlifters).
The maximum points that can be earned for each lift is 10 points. For the squat, the 10 point max is only 450 lbs, the deadlift is only 500 lbs… yet the bench is 405 lbs. I feel like a 450 squat and 500 deadlift is nothing compared to that of a 405 bench and that the points system is skewed more towards those guys who bench all the time and don’t have numbers that high for deadlift and squats. I just wanna know if I’m wrong.

I’d say its out of proportion but what’s the issue, not many competitions are a level playing field…
Yeah, that doesn’t make a lot of sense. If your squat is only 45lbs ahead of your bench then something is wrong. But hey, you could also argue that powerlifting isn’t fair to big benchers because the bench makes up such a small proportion of your total and takes a lot of time and effort to increase.

Crush the Squat and Deadlift, and go as high as you can on Bench. Not sure what your #s are, but if you’re squatting 450 and deadlifting 500, I think a 315 or 350 bench is reasonable - I don’t think a 2-4 point deficit would hurt you.
This event looks cool and makes me wanna try CrossFit!
This guy is not far from a 600 squat in wraps and deadlift is closing in on 700. Elite numbers in 2 out of 3 lifts isn’t bad at all.

Damn, he’ll make slight work out of the whole event.
Update:
Got 315 on bench and was really close to hitting 350. I have earned a new respect for CrossFit competitors, as this competition kicked my ass and served it to me on a silver platter. I lost TEN POUNDS in two days from doing those events and am experiencing a level of sore like never before. I quit on the 225x8 squat + 400m run for 3 rounds before I even started the third round. I pushed myself to finish the Ladder of Doom (100 jump rope, 50 20 lb. wall balls, 40 box jumps, 30 55 lb. kettlebell swings, 20 45 lb. dumbell snatches, and 10 burpees) and ended with a pretty bad time haha. Almost died on the 1 mile run, the 40 dash was easy and got a good time, and the the body weight bench for AMRAP followed by 5 box jumps every time you failed was fun. Overall, powerlifting ain’t shit when compared to true CrossFit lol

That’s a hell of a jump… were these set weights?
Nah, just your standard iron plates. It honestly wasn’t too bad of a jump, but the 350 to 405 was a hell of a jump
I can’t imagine the machine/monster the person would be if they could score full points across all the events.
What he means is if you were able to choose the weight for the next attempt or not. And yeah, 350 to 405 is pretty messed up unless you bench like 500+.
You should do a strongman competition, I could see you being good at that.

Strongman = crossfit for men lol.
But most of the 405 benchers I know squat and dead much more than 450 and 500.
