What is Brett Favre Thinking

It’s fucked up what the Packers are doing, it just shows that every year ethics and morals go down the drain and business is more important.

Yes Farve is acting like a diva but he’s earned the right to act like one, as much as Montana, Emmit or anybody else. He’s also earned the right to be let go, and still be able to come back in his final game just to retire as a Packer. I think he’s flip flopped over retiring because he really just wants to see if he can do it somewhere else.

And to your number 3) The coaches are trying to tell him he doesn’t have it anymore by keeping him retired. Thats not it. Their just ready for the team to go in a new direction, Farve still has it more than a number of young qb’s out there.

Sit down and think about those two statements for just a sec.

Okay -

Now pick one of the two, and go with it. As it stands now - you contradict yourself.

Here’s a clue. Riding the pine is not playing. Favre wants to be a starter - not carry a fucking clipboard. If he were an unrestricted free agent, there would be 25 teams begging him to come start for them, and another 6 offering him bank to come train their sorry excuses for qb’s. Brady “I’m too fucking stupid to make a metrx commercial” Quinn, anyone?

I hate this “earned the right” bullspit. He was payed very well for doing his job. He hasn’t earned crap.

Calculate how much GreenBay payed him his entire career and compare that to how much money he brought in for any year he’s been there. Farve has more people going to the stadium then live in Wisconsin… that earns you a right to leave and compete for another spot.

I hear what you are saying but everyone knows that Rodgers is going to go down in the 2nd week of the season anyways. haha

Seriously, what I don’t understand is why Teddy, Mike and Brett couldn’t have had a meeting to say this, “Look Brett, we understand you want to come back but we can’t just take you back and leave it at that. How about we say you can come back, and the best QB in training camp will win the starting job. You know you are going to be out Rodgers, how about that?”

Easy, simple, problem solved. It allows the Packers to save some face and Brett gets to play again.

Nope, Lambeau field would be sold out every game whether Brett Favre was there or not. There is a 20+ year waiting list for season tickets. My bro-in-law has been on the list since he was 12, he’s 36 now, still doesn’t have tickets. Us Packers fans will be sitting on those cold hard bleachers not matter who is at QB.

Favre has been pissed since the packers made no concerted effort to go after Moss, or any other ace receiver after the 2006 season.

I think, had the Packer brass laid it out like you did - Favre would be in camp right now. As it is - they crowned Rogers QB1 10 seconds after Favre’s press conference was over.

I think it is silly for Favre to waffle like this. But it is at least as silly for Packer mgmt to bow their backs at even giving him a shot at the job.

I can’t argue with that. I think this situation has been handled very poorly by both sides. Lots of ego getting in the way of rational thinking.

Careful…with lines like this…you might be catching the ghey.

I wish he would just go away…Though it has been fun to watch the Bears whoop his ass.

If this keeps up Brett’s going to spill the beans that the whole NFL is fixed and he got paid big money to throw the Championship game against the Giants so that homo QB could appear in commercials with his older homo brother.

Favre did agree to that, but they’ve already said they won’t allow him to compete for the starting position. Rogers is the starter, regardless of how well or how poor he performs.

There’s a lot more than just home ticket sales. There’s road games. Packer merchandise. Prime time TV slots. Playoff games. Favre has brought so much life and money into this franchise beyond ticket sales.

Really, I never heard that.

It goes beyond just the Moss thing. It’s all the little things since Holmgrem left. The coaching changes. The lack of star talent on any of his teams since Holmgren. The lack of a defense for several years. Etc.

I think the coaching changes have been decent. They only gave Ray Rhodes one year which was one too many. Mike Sherman should’ve been yanked after two or three years and now they have Mike McCarthy. Who, in my opinion, is doing a good job.

I like McCarthy. I don’t like that Holmgren was refused the GM position only to see it given to Sherman two years later.

I also think Sherman wasted some of the Packers best years. They were so close, yet there were no moves made to complete the puzzle and make the next step. He also made some of the most ridiculous in game decisions I have ever seen.

When a franchise has one of the 10 best quarterbacks of all time, he should be milked for all he’s worth. Not thrown in the mix with mid-level head coaches. Hell, many great qb’s never have to deal with any coaching changes.

Tom Brady has had Bilichick his entire career. Bradshaw had he same coach his entire career. Montana had Bill Walsh until he was injured. Johnny Unitas had two hall of fame coaches in Ewbank and Shula.

Dan Marino had Shula and Jimmy Johnson. Favre had Ray Rhodes and Mike Sherman. I don’t think they’ll be in the hall of fame anytime soon.

My point is, I can imagine the frustration of these coaching changes and all these other “little things” throughout the years.

I never understood denying Holmgren the GM position but then giving it to Sherman. That blew me away. I still refuse to accept the Ray Rhodes year, it never happened.

I get what you are saying and agree with it. Looking back they did “waste” some of Brett’s best years with crappy coaches and not going after talent.

malonetd - looks like you were right about Favre wanting to come back and compete for the starting job. I just watched the video I linked, he is moving pretty good!

If he really wants to come back and compete for the starting job, I don’t see why they wouldn’t let him. This situation is so fubar’d…

I think the situation went bad as soon as Favre retired. He’s the kind of guy that’s going to have to play until he can’t throw a football, like Jerry Rice. Remember him as the Broncos 5th WR? By this point, Brett should know himself well enough to recognize that fact.

I don’t know if there was any pressure on him to make the decision or not. I don’t think we’ll ever know. But at this point, both sides are looking like assholes from my POV.

The one thing that’s really stood out to me is that Aaron Rodgers appears to be a standup guy. He’s in the middle of a shitstorm and is the only one behaving like a professional.

I think the best way for the Pack to deal with this is to release Favre. If they want to move on without him, fine. But you can’t have your cake and eat it too. He wants to play, they clearly don’t want him to play for them. Fine, let him play somewhere else. They can wait a few years to retire his jersey.
