Douchebaggery is running wild in my gym. I like to go during the day because the high income MILFs are there and there is nearly no one lifting free weights… usually.
Lately I have seen different groups using the squat cage for…dunno what to call it. They are laying on the ground, pressing nearly no weight to lockout, holding it, and then doing stiff leg raises. Whuddafugizdat?
Speaking of reracking, I warming up with deadlifts one day and someone else had left a trap bar on my area loaded up. A chick came by and gave me attitude as if I did it, but I unloaded it for her. She used it and proceeded to leave it loaded up, Wtf?
I don’t mind the funny stuff and people that don’t know anything, because I appreciate the fact that at just about any time, I can walk over to use a squat rack. Imagine how shitty it would be if everone trained like us? You would be waiting a lot longer for someone to do all their squatting than 65lb curls.
Here’s a funny thing.
People asking me if I’m using the EZ curl bar or a bench that is outside of a power rack.
I haven’t done curls in over a year and the only time I use a bench is in the rack…I know they’re just being polite, but still…kinda silly

Weird…I can’t believe those people don’t already know all that stuff about you!
i saw one guy walk in and get on a flat bench…and he kept doing reps and adding weight and doing reps, for a damn hour.
BUT!, then he got up and racked his weights, and wiped down the bench, and continued to do exercise after exercise for the next hour.
noone talked to him, and he talked to noone. why cant we all be like ME?

I detect sarcasm.
Its a college gym. Out of the people that go there only myself and one another bench or deadlift heavy. I’m the only who squats below parallel or front squats heavy. I’m the only one who does cleans.
You’d think people might notice that over a few semesters…and stop asking me if I’m using the ez curl bar…

Squat day today, only one squat rack in the gym. Guy and his training partner have 5 lbs. on each end, wearing gloves, straps, skull cap, tank tops. Doing curls. I had to do my dips and pullups first. Unintentional comedy at it’s finest.
My gym also only has one cage so I will ask “how many sets do you have left because I want to squat.” It may be because I’m a female, but most men will leave the cage when I say that. Just a few weeks ago, I was approaching the cage and another guy walked up to a curler in the cage and said “she’s going to want to squat.” The curler stripped the bar and left. Truly, if you can curl it, you can pick up the bar off the floor. There’s no excuse to displace someone who wants to squat since they can’t be done elsewhere, IMO.
Regarding stupid shit, I cringe whenever I watch what the bulk of trainers at my 24 Hour have people do. Limited ROM, bad form, no correction. Just so saddens me that people dole out money for that type of instruction, or lack thereof.
Nah this happens to me too. I see guys all the time who are afraid to ask to use the rack do warmup and accessory work for 45 mins while someone curls, and then will rush to do their 5x5 program lol. Being polite and assertive + having a belt and sleeves will make people get out of the rack immediately for me. I know it’s fun to bitch about a commercial gym but it’s really not too horrible.

Lol, I am just getting to the point where people in my gym know I am going to hog the squat rack by squatting for an 45 minutes, and then OHP.
There is some damned silly shit happening there, most of it doesn’t bother me other than the people who look like they are going to hurt themselves. There’s the guy with a 405lb curtsy (squat) who struggled to deadlift 185. He’s been doing the 405 curtsy (a slight knee bend with a lot of face contortion) the whole year I have been going to the gym. He doesn’t look the slightest bit different than he did day 1. Frankly, I’d rather he did squat rack curls because I don’t want to be there when he folds and gets pinned. Some day he is going to put himself in the hospital, and spend the rest of his life telling people what he used to do.
This other nimrod (seems like a local aging tough guy) brought a young brah, probably a relative and was showing him how to bench. He said, “how many times do I have to tell you, keep you back flat on the bench and your elbow out!” He also “spotted” the kid mainly by yelling at him as the bar tilted to and fro and watching his feet dance a jig.
All this happened Sunday.

Fair enough, I was picturing a huge commercial gym, sorry bout that assholery
Realistically though, these people you’re referring to are only going to notice people that curl less weight than them; as far as they’re concerned deadlifts, power cleans, and squats don’t even exist. lol if they noticed you doing power cleans they’d probably just think you’re curling wrong
At least three times when I’ve been deadlifting people have asked me “is that some kind of exercise you’re doing?” No awareness of anything but glam muscles and how to work them.
Heh. I was doing cleans and this fool behind me asks this other guy what they’re for…the guy replied, “Biceps…I think.”
I’m pretty sure people know what deadlifts are even though I’ve only seen maybe three other people deadlift…and I’ve only seen one other person even pull 315 let alone rep with it :/.
There’s a gal that does one handed snatches and I’m sure pretty much no one has any idea wtf she is doing or why.

Hah, I know what you mean. One time at my old college gym I was doing some goodmornings and a girl walked up to me between sets and told me I was squatting wrong and that I was going to hurt my back. I chuckled in my head, and smiled at her and kept doing what I was doing.
I work at the campus gym and am also an intern at the universities strength and conditioning facility.
The S&C facility usually doesn’t have anything stupid going on as we have control over the athletes, however the campus gym is something else.
I work in what we call the “Power Room” where we have bumpers, racks and platforms.

Some guy trying to power clean. It was horrible, was rather amusing to watch him hump the bar several times then try to muscle it up. He was also ‘coaching’ a friend who was new to lifting and proceded to tell him that when “power cleaning you are not lifting the weight, rather just doing it”. what the hell does that mean? haha
-
Another kid doing deadlifts and telling his training partner that he doesn’t want to use his legs because he “wanted to save them to squat later and was just using his back”… it looked painful. Actually most of the students really don’t know how to deadlift and I’ve seen 2 slipped discs just this semester. Luckily I’ve fixed several forms and possibly saved some serious injuries.
-
Bicep curls with straps in the squat rack.
-
This one kid loaded up 5 plates on each side of the bar. Sure enough, barely a quarter squat and all his friends went wild because he ‘squatted’ it.
one more from my log
Straigt arm pulls downs
3 sets of 20-10 reps varying weight and then a drop set.
Some jackass was doing a circuit and as soon, as i stopped doing my first set he bumped me out of the way and did some extensions. My reactions was calm, and i said go ahead. However i wanted to say"YOU FUCKING PEICE OF SHIT JUST ASK ME WE CAN SHARE IN BTWEEN SETS YOU IGNORANT PIECE OF FLESH"
sigh.

The gym where I go is pretty cool. It’s not hardcore or anything, but they let you do what you want. It’s the same gym Furious Pete goes to, so maybe that’s why.

AHAHAHAH, just leg pressed 300 pounds #lightweightyoloallnattynocreatine
I saw a guy db pressing at one the barbell benching stations with his legs flailing as the weight descended. There were free benches available and all the other barbell bench stations were taken. I just don’t understand some of the things I see.
Gym Hates!
-Every skinny fuck has on a dirty wife beater.
-Guys that stop in before they go drinking at bar dressed in club clothes, just to pump up their 15" arms
-Mother Effers that slam and drop dumbbells that are only like 65lbs to feel so damn good about themselves.
-
a guy that trains in his military gas mask because he said it makes breathing harder even though it has no canister/filter attached so he is really breathing through a giant hole in the side. Fail!
-
And last but not least a schizophrenic that had a 5 minute conversation with himself in the mirror which ended with him kissing himself in the mirror.
And its only monday!
Saw a guy using one of those elevation masks while squatting 135 with terrible form and not coming close to proper depth he worked his way up to 315 each time form becoming worse. Not really sure what he was trying to do.
