What Do You Think About P90x

It’s just a basic crossfit training program with a diet plan.

If you work your ass off for 90 days along with strict dieting, yeah I think most people would see a difference.

I gotta say, just the sounds of ‘how many pullups can you do in 2 minutes’ goes against everything I do to train for size. I intentionally go slower, and slower, making the msucles work harder.

Sure, I see the usual idiots in the gym jumping n jerking all over the place doing ‘pullups’, but even the ones with a modium of definition, have no muscle size to speak of. All this program sounds like to me is intense cardio with some dumbells. Not bad for someone who’s used to doing nothing, but nothing that will make anyone look like a muscled gym rat.

Just my thoughts.

It’s not for bodybuilding or for those that want to build a good amount of muscle size.

But it’s definitely a better way for most people to start whether they want to lose fat, get in shape or get more muscular (especially if they start as a weak beginner).

Someone could easily follow the program for 90 days, make some great progress, and then go from there to achieve their future goals.

I agree. And again, most people give up the gym within a couple of months because they don’t see results.

So they could do something like p90x first, get results and be more motivated to KEEP GOING to the gym rather than doing their own thing for 3 months, getting nowhere and giving up.

Also, think why the Physique Clinic worked so well. Gus had looked the same way for years and he needed to be told exactly what to do, when to do it and how he should do it. And he had amazing results.

Exactly.

If you have an all-encompassing plan that you can follow, then you will be able to make progress.

Most people half-ass their training or their nutrition or their lifestyle (or one or more combinations of the above).

Having a plan is usually key.

surely it is better than the average, so people will enjoy it. a minus on tnation standards, though.
would this be good on a cut/to decrease BF% then? i do not know much about cutting other than calorie maintenance and lowered carbs.

Imo it’s for the people who do nothing and want to start something.

I think they could get just as much of a workout from watching teletubbies and jumping up and down in front of their tv…

but then again I’ve been known to not like anything regaurding exercise that isn’t “hardcore” or pushed to the limits.

I can think of 5 people who’ve done this P90X program.

I don’t think any of them really followed the program to the tee and I don’t think any of them followed the diet AT ALL.

I’ve seen the infomercials while eating breakfast on the weekends.

My opinion? If you’re SERIOUS about getting strong, jacked, ripped, or whatever - then you should get with a serious program that’s more than a jane-fonda style workout tape.

No one I know who has done P90X has gotten any results to speak of. But this is probably more attributed to the fact that they lack motivation than that the program is flawed.

I doubt I’ll ever see anyone with a physique I’d call “Impressive” whose done P90X because I doubt that anyone who would SETTLE for doing some ‘workout videos’ has the drive to really do something note worhty.

Why aren’t professional bowlers cock-desil? Is it because bowling isn’t good for getting jacked or is it because no professional bowlers are motivated to get jacked? Whichever it is, bowling definitely isn’t the best way to get jacked since it’s not what serious athletes in pursuit of “The Jack” are doing.

All im saying is, i did this Synergistics part of the video, i decided to download today after i saw this topic, since today is cardio day i thought it would be a nice change from running, and since the hurricanes are all over, im stuck inside with no sled and prowler.

Its about 58 minutes long, about 5 minutes of stretches in the beginning and 5 minute cool down at the end. Its non stop moving, with maybe 3 one minute breaks. Overall i thought it was though shit, from the perspective of someone who only lifts weights like a powerlifter. Did it come to me as a shock all the freaking weird positions that they made you hold, that kicked my ass, and i am no fat man by any means, currently pushing 190lb.

WARNING, i really don’t think it is possible for a non-trained couch potato that is overweight to do this program. Though i feel this is advertised to the people who are skinny fat, and want to look like christian bale from the mechanist, lol. My mom decided to give it a shot with me, and couldn’t do any of the planks or pushup variations. I think this part of the video is for people who are either really skinny or actually have some kind of activities in ther life, they have you doing sets of 20-30 pushups, though i blew those out the water, my mom and friend could not, mom got 2 (5’5 140lb)and my friend got 15(210lb).

It was a whole lot of body weight crap, my muscles were not sore, but my shoulders got fatigued because it was shoulders day yesterday. The “banana” hold and the “superman” kicked my ass.

I might download the rest of the programs and give each video a shot later in the day after my regular workout to give some feedback.

So far i think its alright for loosing weight, its way better then running on a treadmill, so i see why the uninformed people doing cardio all day would see this program and jump all over it.

Apart from loosing weight, this program will not make you big, well at least not the part of the video i watched, and you can tell that is not eh point of the program because he says you will need a dumbbell set going only to 30lb, and followed by saying something along the lines “Don’t worry, the 30’s are for when you get really good at this”.

Another bad thing about it is that i think the heavier you are, the gayer it gets, my training partner that is about 210lb couldn’t do most of the holds. I say if you train like this and its your thing then its probably too easy, but running around doing weird shit is not my thing, therefore it shocked me pretty good when i had sweat coming out of my eyeballs.

Try the ab ripper X… I found that pretty damn difficult and I has ridiculous DOMB in my abs the next day.

I PROMISE you, they are not “pussy” workouts. You will KNOW that you trained after every session, assuming you give a shit enough to do it correctly and with enough intensity. Your remarks are geared toward someone who has different goals than the typical P90X user.

In all fairness, I have not tried the workout so I suppose I should not be labeling it. And I agree that my goals are probably not the same, though I think anybody’s physique goals would be more easily attained by following some sort of gym-based bodybuilding routine.

This is where I stand as well. If you’re going to take the time, why not do it right?

As far as videos that you do in your own home It’s pretty nice. One of my friends showed it to me for a laugh. It essentially serves the purpose for a select group of people - those who don’t want to go to a gym, don’t care about being notably large and want to follow some kind of exercise program that will not require any planning on their part. It will get a lot of ‘i used to run in highschool’ type guys abs for the summer.

Can’t say i would really reccomend it to anyone who is serious about getting into shape since its only good for 90 days and then you’re on your own.

and about before and after pics

You can see a huge difference with just a hair cut, tanning, shaving body hair, lighting, make up, a smile instead of a grimace, the distance the picture is taken from, and flexing or sucking in the gut.

Add in water manipulation, and you wouldnt really need 90 days to make a person look different, when all of the above could be done in a matter of hours.

I give some credit to P90x, though, for the reasons everybody else said. I can’t even get through 100% of the “Ab Ripper X” exercises.

Most trainers wouldn’t mind finding a better way of getting their cardio in and I’m thinking that this tape is essentially cardio w/some added resistance work. At risk of being laughed at, I even thought about picking up a ‘tae-bo’ tape (they’re like $5 now at SPorts Authority -lol) because everytime I think about hoping on a bike, or treadmill, I want to kill myself from the boredom.

I actually got it from a friend to look at, and I didn’t find it as a good substitute for an real training plan. Though I would rather just go to the gym and workout I thought that this program is geared for people that may be afraid to go to the gym. We all know people that want to change, but just fear going to the gym because they are too embarrassed, and thats the only reason why they don’t workout. This is good for people who want to workout alone and on their own time, and all they need is a pull up bar and some free weights. Maybe after they complete it, they will be intrigued and have some confidence and actually go to the gym and lift some real weights.

Yes.

That’s it’s main purpose.

Those are newbie gains…I don’t think I’ll have much luck swinging around 30 pounds dumbells for all my arm/shoulder/back exercises…I’ll get better results in the gym
So finally enough people at my gym told me to try it out…I wasnt going to pay money for it so i downloaded it off limewire and tried some of the cardio routines and ab ripper x…ALL I have to say is I was totally wrong…it put me on my ass

I know a few friends that have passed it between each other and seemed to like it because they can do it at home. But I have yet to see any of them actually follow through with the program or make any noticeable gains.

I didn’t know there was a diet part to it, but they all still eat like shit. They also do not look like they lift at all, so who knows if they are even doing the workouts or not.

Got it from a friend last year, did it last year with successful (some might say amazing) results. It’s not a scam.

Like anything else in life, you’ll get out of it what you put into it. The only advantage of ‘systems’ like P90X, et al, is they provide structure to the user - THAT is really what you’re paying for. Tell you what to eat, when to train, what exercises to perform, etc. It’s also a great jumping off point to educate the person about what it really takes to burn a TON of BF in a short period of time.

P90X is basically continuous HIT with a little weight training mixed in. You won’t get big, but you will burn a TON of fat. I say save your money, learn what it takes (all the info is right here) to burn BF, and go do it. If you’re looking to get "BIG"er, P90X is NOT the way to go.
i dont want to hijack this thread, but i see this all the time…

HIT is “High Intensity Training”- the weightlifting techniques made popular by Arthur Jones, El Darden, Casey Viator, Mike Mentzer, and to some extent Dorian Yates. Again, this is a program/technique/style of lifting weights- this is NOT the thing that involves sprints and such.

HIIT is “High Intensity Interval Training”- such as intervals of walking/jogging and sprints- essentially fat burning- not usually weights involved.

I used it in conjunction with Thib’s Destroying Fat protcol with great success. For me it was/is the convenience of the structured workout with a variety of exercises.

I hind sight I’d have save money by buying a select few of the CD’s rather than the full package. But as a compliment to my free weight workouts, it was great

Like people have said here-P90X is great for getting shredded. It works as a great cardio segment of you training regimen.
