What Do You Do For Motivation?

Books, movies, personal experiences, dreams,goals…

What motivates you to go in that gym day in and day out?

The dream of becoming a pro bodybuilder?

a women magnet? or the center of attention?

wanna make your ex realize what kind of mistake he/she made by leaving you? (take a look at what u no longer have! type of thing?..) Not me, but sounds quite motivational!

look good, feel good?

Get back at those f**ks who made fun of you, or treated you as if you’re a nobody?

Health reasons?

Thank u in advance:)

I am going to be honest to the extent of making myself out to look like a complete loony.

  1. I workout because I fear having a child, or in particular a daughter, and having something horrible and unforeseen happen to this child that would undoubtedly put me in a situation were I would have to make some choices that could put me in prison.

  2. I work out because I do not want to be killed by a person lesser than myself. I also call this the crazy factor. If someone is considering random assault, robbery, murder, ect. I want to be big enough that I am on the bottom of his list when he sees me.

  3. I work out because it brings my mind peace, and I truly enjoy how it makes me feel about myself. It is as close to a religious experience as I have in my adult life.

As for movie and books ect.

  1. T-Nation is a big motivator.
  2. Pumping Iron the movie with Arnold always gets me ready to lift.
  3. An article from Henry Rollins that I like to read every now and again.

naturalstrength.com/weightroom/detail.asp?ArticleID=168

  1. Look in the mirrior. I hate where I am at especially for my age.

  2. T-Nation articles and readers.

  3. Read “Set Yourself on Fire” by Chris Shugart.

  4. All I want is to have a decent build. I don’t want a nice car or a nice job. Sounds dumb but I cant see myself being successful as a skinny fat guy. I must put on 30# of muscle.

Ditto BlakeAJackson…

Also…I want to set a good example for my 3 sons. By staying in shape I’m telling them it’s not okay to be a lazy, overweight, slacker…no offense intended to any lazy, overweight, slackers reading this…

An finally…Fawnia’s backside in the Figure Competitor image is motivating me in all kinds of fun ways even as I type…

I don’t want to be killed by anyone, period.

If I were the perpetrator and bent on a violent crime with a deadly weapon, I would take you out first, less trouble with the big guy out of the picture.

I like doing things I am good at. I am good at being strong. If I can’t be thin then I can be strong and athletic looking. I am curious as to how far I can go in this. People that work in the medical field in this country tend to fat, I don’t want to be one of those people. If I have kids I want to be a good example to them. Finally, I like getting to shopping for new clothes when the ones I have are too big for me.

honestly? I started lifting because there was a girl at my work i liked and i figured girls prefer hyuuuuuuuuuuuggggggeeeee guys lol…well it worked i guess,

now i train to get back at her also so im strong enough that if her current bf (and USED TOO BE MATE, who managed to stab me in the back) tries anything i can pretty much humiliate him in front of her.

the third and final reason is I want to be strong enough so that if a close friend or family is in danger I’m strong enough to help them

So I can laugh my ass off at every kid that ever made fun of me all through my life. Oh and to make the ladies panties drop.

And If I was going to kill someone while I was robbing a bank I would kill the huge guy first, all the small sheep won’t do anything after the big guy goes down.

Do not announce your intentions when you enter the bank as I pack heat in addition to being big.

I’ll remember that for future use.

Great post man, it really brings us back to earth and ponder why we push it everyday and how.

  1. I do it because I was never this strong in HS or College.

  2. I do it to set an example for my boys. I want to be their super hero.

  3. …so maybe one day my wife will notice me and just jump my shit just becuz she is so impressed.

4…so I can maybe get a flirtatious look from a younger hottie,…so I can feel a lil’ young again.LOL

5…I feel so dam good during and after a training session. I powerlift not body build.

  1. Napoleon Complex

  2. Arnold Schwarzenegger Mr. Olympia - YouTube

  3. Endorphins

  4. Some desire to have the ability protect myself and family if needed. See Napoleon Complex.

#1 I feel amazing while I am in the gym most of the time.

#2 Inside and out, i feel a person must develop themselves.

#3 Looking good without a shirt on

The gym keeps me out of therapy. I’ve been lied to, screwed over, and taken advantage of over and over again, but like I’ve said here before, a pound is always a pound. Weights are honest. It’s the only place in the world where you can always count on an equal return on your physical, mental, and emotional investment.

I would literally go crazy if I couldn’t train anymore.

  1. I train because being sick sucks.

  2. It is good to have goals outside of work, school…

  3. I’ll second the Napoleon Complex.

  4. I have always sucked at pretty much every other sport. I have no depth perception and cannot catch anything to save my life.

  5. It is technical. I like technical.

  6. Having kids walk up to me and flex while growling is always cool.

  7. I was freakishly skinny in High School.

  8. It is one of the few things that’ll clear my head.

I can keep going.

1- I don’t know if it’s the mass I put on or just growing older, but my confidence is through the roof.

2- It’s damn healthy for a way to relieve stress.

3- To protect my skeleton (think spine and other sensitive areas).

4- Because I can.

5- Tall and skinny is not particularly aesthetic.

These two things definitely help when I’m feeling lazy. As far as more general reasons for training, its mainly because I can’t stand the way I feel when I don’t. It feels good to lift and exercise, and it feels good to look in the mirror when I’ve been working hard. There have been times when I haven’t been as consistent with my training, and I usually feel shitty during those times. Getting bigger/stronger is just awesome, and training to get that way simply feels good.

Seconded.

Also, being 6’6" and 160lbs isn’t particularly attractive, and the idea that one day, when I have a big, beautiful body, I’m gonna walk into a pub wearing the geekiest t-shirt I can find to show people that not all geeks are skinny acne ridden teenagers with thick rim glasses and greasy hair.

That’s right, I’m a geek and damn proud of it.

I just log on to T-Nation.com.

If that doesn’t work I click over to MWA! 8^)

to be able to protect people i love. to be strong and able to do things generally if i need to. to feel good(not depressed cause of a bad diet or cause of being fat), to have my wife think im strong since ill think shes beautiful. to get more testosterone, making me able to focus better, more aggressive and of course more horny! to get adrenaline, and the feeling that i lifted X amount of whatever. to achieve something physical thats actually a challenge. to be more healthy and not have to spend 912378981237 dollars on doctors.

other things that motivate me are movies like uhmm braveheart, 300, star wars etc. anime, MUSIC, and uhm testosterone itself, so girls, T-Nation, and watching - YouTube

also its heck of a lot like a computer game. for the same reason that starcraft, or warcraft 3 or whatever kept me addicted the same applies to weightlifting. you have to learn techniques, you have to push yourself, you ahve to keep learning about foods, when to do what, what exercises do what etc etc. so there is a strategy in everything, and well, you actually get strong for real out of this. so its better than a video game
