What day do you guys do deadlifts on?

yesterday.

New Year’s Eve. On leap years.

And everybody’s major days are chest, legs, and back? I always thought it was chest, bis, and abs.

I have no idea what your training program looks like, so why does it matter what day I do deads on? Are you bodybuilding? Powerlifting? Training Olympic lifts? You can’t just slot in something like that unless your focus, goals, priorities etc are clear. I max once a month, do speed days, do days where I work on technique, do different types of deads- conventional, sumo, snatch, partial, romanian and on and on. What type are you referring to?

Depends on whether or not I’m using deads as a temporary replacement for squats or not (typically a 3 week break from a strength cycle). If so I do them on deadlift day. If I’m doing them concurrently with squats I usually do 3/4 deads in the rack and do them first on back day.

Deadlifts for cardio. . . . now that was funny.

Hey, some old articles by Peary Rader I’ve read refer to 20-rep deadlifts as an alternate to 20-rep squats. Sounds like some pretty serious cardio work to me. No—I haven’t tried them. I’ll wait for one of those truly masochistic moods to hit me first.

we will prob never here from that poor bastard again, but i had a good laugh at his expense, so it was probably worth it …hehehehehe …
arrrrrhhhh such bastards…

I don’t know why people post and then not respond to questions, ideas etc. You start something and then bail.

I’m doing a very limited 5X5 workout with the goal of maintaining lbm.

Day 1 Legs/Shoulders
Day 2 Back/Biceps
Day 3 Chest/Triceps

I’m sure many people would disagree with what I’m doing, but I’m acheiving my goal.

I’ve always done deadlifts on back day. And Wednesday is back day!

It’s remarkable how many people posted on here without actually giving an answer to a very simple and reasonable question.

If I’m doing deadlifts I like to work back and hamstrings/glutes on the same day and I’ll stick deads on that day.

Because of my body shape deads hit my lower back quite a bit and I like to keep all the back stuff together. This also allows me to perform squats during the week as well since I find that squatting and deadlifting in the same day just never works. . .

STU

It really depends on the type of workout that I’m doing and current goals, etc. That said, deadlifts for me would typically be done in a “posterior chain” workout. (back, glutes, hams…)

Good to see that the last few posts redeemed the first 95%!
To all of you who left those sarcastic responses:
GET A FREAKING LIFE! YOUR COMMENTS AND ATTITUDE ARE NOT WHAT T-NATION IS ALL ABOUT!!!

Deads can be done on posterior chain/hamstring day. A good example is OVT Phase 1 and 2.

Peace…

Okay, I’ve got a question. Do any of you think the advice that we give to people on deadlifts seems contradictory? When someone posts a picture, we all scream “Deadlift!” in unison, which is cool, as a lot of people don’t do them. But then we give the impression that once you’re advanced enough, you don’t need them but once every 6 months or so.

While I understand the reasoning behind this, does anybody think that this might cause some confusion to new readers?

Ptr, I think T-Nation is about asking intelligent questions and contributing to the discussion. If you ask a question like “what day do you deadlift” and then not respond to questions, how are you contributing?

I want to know what type of deads he’s referring to. What are his goals? Strength? Physique? Olympic lifting? These are legitimate questions and with an answer, a decent reponse to the original question can be presented. If I’m strength training, I deadlift once a month and do assistance work the rest of the time. If I’m bodybuilding, I’ll deadlift twice a week if I feel like it, at <80% 1RM on any day, back, hams, whatever. If I’m going over 80%, I’d better not have anything else scheduled that day with the exception of light assistance work or else everything will suffer. Olympic lifting? I’ll deadlift 3 times or more per week, depending on how I feel.

CGB…I think you need to go back and reread those posts bro…
The man asked a question…the answers started out ok…then deteriorated into sarcasm and stupidity. NO ONE was asking him for any information at that point. The wise crack answers just kept pouring in though. I agree with your original statement…but again…NO ONE ask him any other questions about his program.

Peace…

Dead lifts are my absolute favorite exercise, but very very taxing for me. I don’t do them with legs on Tuesdays, but with back on Fridays. I also never do heavy deads two weeks in a row. I will do them heavy one week, and do them as a finisher the following week with reps in the 15 go 20 reps range.

I will alternate the weeks when I do heavy squats with the weeks that I do heavy deads. This is my personal preference. I’m no youngster. Over the years I learned that for me, alternating heavy lifts on opposing mucles keeps me from overtraining, or nursing nagging injuries. An example being that when I’m pushing failure on chest one week, I’m most likely to use volume for back workout, and then swap the following weeks. Or one week I target hamstrings with max weight, then I hit the quads with volume and vice versa.

Hope this is helpful.

Ptr, yeah you’re right. I hadn’t read through the recent posts.

I dont blame the guy for not responding,in my humble opinion,he asked a legitimate question and had the piss taken out of him.
I tend do to deadlifts, when I am working on the posterior chain.
For example I box squat on Mon,but Fri I may deadlift.
It all depends on what I am working towards, but will usually deadlift at least once per week, sometimes twice.

Yall need to lighten up. Where are we in life if we dont have jokes? Actually if you want a complete answer, the only time i do regular deadlifts without chains, bands, or on a box is on meet day. how was that?

Damn, we have a lot of thin-skinned people on this site. Why is everyone so uptight about this? He got flamed, so what. If someone is that intimidated by an internet post, then what are they to do in real life when the face a challenge. I agree with Goldberg. Many of these posts are just jokes.
