What Business is it of Yours Where I'm From, Friendo?

Dunno, works pretty well for me too.

Yeah, it’s fine if you’re good with loneliness. Although you and I are both with spouses, so we have a built in human companion.

But it legit dawned on me the other day. I moved to my current place 3 years ago, we’re moving in the summer, and I said to my wife ā€œYou know what I realized? I don’t have any friends here. There are zero people I hang out with here.ā€

Just wasn’t even on my radar as a concern.

Means that you’re not lonely - you’re alone, and there is a difference. I’m just learning to be alone without being lonely. I like it.

Incredibly valuable point. Great distinction to make.

My wife is introverted, but not to the extent I am. She has to let me know when we haven’t been around enough humans, because left to my own devices, I’ll spend time with none.

Look up emotional manipulation in relationships on google and take a gander! See if that makes any sense with what you are experiencing. I’m not saying this to say he’s a bad guy, he just might be bad for YOU.

It won’t get better with this guy at all. I also wonder if he is your boss or some type of supervisor if this is allowed at your job? In the states a lot of companies have really strict rules over inter office relationships.

My wife is the opposite. She’s gotten used to my misanthropic nature but it took some time. She used to be genuinely concerned at my lack of friends.

@Spock81 I don’t know what to say that’s helpful. Stop caring what people think. They don’t matter.

I have no doubt that he’s manipulating me.
So does that mean he’s not even technically in this for sex , but for entertainment?

Because that’s fucked up
But still, why waste your time with a person who irritates you?

I like myself. I have no intention of changing or altering myself to suit his needs , but I am lonely.

It’s not so much a case that I dont love myself and that’s what I need to work on in order to stay away from him, but more dealing with my feelings of loneliness.

Which is so fucking hard because it’s not like this has been short lived. I’ve never in my life felt anything other than loneliness. Never had anything close or healthy or real. I’m sick of being alone so it’s like ok, how do I be ok with being alone when I’m so g damn tired of being alone?
I’ve learned how to love myself and i am happy on my own, but I’d really like to have a man in my life now. I’m 32, , I love my life and my job and my son is doing so well. I’m ready for the relationship already !!

You definitely deserve a good guy, you will get through this…
I also hope you can get a dog! No joke. Loneliness can be cured with animals!!

YES !! I would love a dog. I literally watch dog videos all day on reddit. I think it would change my life significantly, but my building doesnt allow pets.
I’m not going to move until I can put a down payment on a condo , so it will be like 6 years until a dog can be a reality unfortunately

OH NO! You can’t have pets at your place? That sucks!!! I hope you have access to someone’s dog! Anyone’s dog!

I totally get how you can get drawn back into bad habits that you know are destructive for you. I was also really bad at being alone, until I learned not to be. It was terribly difficult for me to take the step of filing for divorce from my ex-wife with no expectation that I would have someone else to be with, even as toxic as she was.

I think Myth is onto something with learning to be alone without being lonely. You can learn to cherish time alone, rather than suffer from it.

I also wonder if you could get a support dog. Seriously! Do you still have a therapist you can ask? My sister has one for her issues-- a Chihuahua of all things!-is that a thing in Canada?

Support dogs typically are allowed to live in no dog allowed places once they have their certification…Emotional support, you can get them for certain mental disorders like maybe even high anxiety or bipolar as well.

It’s a weird grey area under Canadian law; technically, there’s no such thing as a ā€œtherapy animalā€ or ā€œemotional support animalā€. The only recognized service animals under law are dogs that are trained as aids for physically impaired people. However, if you receive a diagnosis from a medical professional that you have some type of personality or mental disorder that a specific animal helps minimize, then you can get them ā€œcertifiedā€ as a therapy animal, which means they’re a working animal and thus benefit from the lawful definition of ā€œservice animalā€. They will then need to wear the proper identification when out in public (vest/jacket, collar, ID tag, etc). Sometimes it’s required that a certified trainer takes a look at the animal as well to see if it can recognize signs of stress, anxiety, etc and calm its ward down.

I know all this because I spent hours consulting with a legal team about it, when some crackhead kept trying to bring his dog into the site I work at without any identification whatsoever.

Also to note in my position as work from home call center rep my contract says I’m not allowed to have a dog in the home due to noise concerns.

I’m hoping in 6 years I’ll be in a higher position and this will no longer be the case.

Honestly , dogs make my heart so happy

This is so simple.

Treat your boy like a dog. Problem solved.

Thank me later.

I’d move on and delete the number. He sounds very immature and certainly hasn’t a clue how to treat the ladies. When the suns out - get the guns :muscle:t2: out. Wear clothes that show off your figure and all that hard work in the gym. Turn up at places where everyone looks normal ( non gym goers ) and all eyes will be on you. They will be lining up like bowling pins and you are the bowling ball - go smash them! Good luck
