What Brand of Whey???

Hi all, I was wondering what kind of whey you would recommend.

I hear everyone talking about Low-Carb Grow! and I was thinking about trying it. However, Optimum Nutritons whey is $50 for a 10lb bag compared to $23 for a tub of Grow!.

Is there really that much of a difference?

Cheers!!

Purchase all of your supplemental protein powders from Biotest.

Yes, there’s a HUGE difference.

First, the ON whey protein is just that - whey protein. The Grow! is a mix of whey protein and micellar casein. So on paper, the Grow! is better.

I used to be a skeptic. I never tried Grow! because “it was too expensive” and “it only comes in 2lb containers.” Finally, for whatever reason, I ordered some.

Let me tell you: (1) it mixes more easily than any other protein powder I’ve tried, (2) it tastes better than any other protein powder I’ve tried, and (3) on top of all that, its good quality stuff.

Go with the Grow!

You could probably buy a big bag of cheap dog food for protein, too, but I’ll stick with Grow!.

Is there a difference? Yes. The taste is well worth the price. I used to use ON but would start to get annoyed by the flavor. And a 10 lb tub lasts for a while. With Grow!, I look forward to eating that stuff.

Plus, the quality is much better. And that is just from reading the label.

I’ve become a dedicated Grow! customer and don’t regret the decision.

The difference is in the type of PROTEINS. ONs 100% whey is exactly that 100% whey, while the Biotest Low-Carb Grow! contains not just whey but also the best time released micellar protein.

The addition of the later is what makes Biotests’ product more costly(than ON’s) however you are still getting a great deal since other time released blends cost a WHOLE lot more.

Also Grow! TASTES much better.

The choice is yours. I have used both and could chose either depening on my wallet(considering it costs a lot to ship from biotest to Canada).

Have you read the Low-Carb GROW! product thread. It tells you exactly what the differences are.

How about Muscle Milk?

If you’re on a kinda tight budget get Optimum, if its not get Grow.

In my opinion, the only time you want straight whey protein is post-workout with maltodextrin and dextrose. Otherwise, you want a protein blend with plenty of casein. Low-Carb Grow! is the best I’ve found. I don’t use surge. (although I agree that it’s high quality) I make my own PWO drink with hydrolyzed whey, malto, and dex. But I do buy Low-Carb Grow! If you’re looking to supplement protein throughout the day, don’t go with whey. It’s too fast-absorbing. If you can’t afford or don’t want to buy low carb Grow! for whatever reason, stick with whole foods.

I do Muscle Milk right before bed. Its Casein and not whey and more anabolic.

Yeah, I was skeptical of Grow at first (and Surge) but they really do work.

I especially like Surge because my recovery seems so much faster with it than without.

You have to balance how much $ you got with what you can get. If you are strapped for cash, my suggestion is this, use Biotest for the during/after workout drink and before bed. Use the cheaper stuff to snack on throughout the day.

I don’t know about Muscle Milk, but ON’s “Anabolic Milk” has glycocyamine, which I would stay away from.

I have a five pounder from my pre-Grow! days that I’ve been slowly using up, and I really don’t think it compares to Grow!, taste or quality.

If cost is such an issue, I think you’re usuing too much supplemental protein. I know lots of folks use several servings of Grow! daily and that it is a mainstay of their diets, but if price is such an issue that it would dissuade you from using Grow!, I would opt instead to simply consume more real food protein.
