Do You Take Grow! as Protein Exclusively?

I’ve gotten the impression that some people around here take Grow! as their only protein supplement. Am I misinformed when I think to myself “what about whey?”. I thought Casein protein was best used before going to sleep, to fend of catabolism.

Just wondering…

If I read the ingredients correctly, Low-Carb Grow! has whey protein isolate, and Classic Grow! has whey protein concentrate…
Are you asking about taking an independent exclusively whey supplement?

From what I understand, protein from solid food digests slower than a whey protein isolate liquid supplement, but I haven’t seen many ad campaigns promoting eating a steak before bed shrug.

It would be interesting to hear the answer, and maybe I can then decide if I want to spend $AUD70 for a tub.

Well… Low-Carb Grow! is a mixture of both Micellar Casein (The long lasting stuff) and Whey (The fast acting stuff). So in reality its a blend of both Fast and Slow prot’s. They also sell regular Grow! which is mainly Whey, it also has carbs in it to make it more of a meal as oppsed to just a short of protein.

I usually do a mix of Low-Carb Grow! and Just Whey, one scoop of each in a shake comes out to about 40g of protein and tastes pretty good. I used the vanilla Grow! as a base and add flavored 100% Whey or sometimes Ijust do one or the other. As mentioned though Low-Carb Grow! is a nice blend of cassein and whey so you’re not really giving anything up by using it as your sole protein supplement.

It’s good to get the bulk of your protein from whole food sources and use Grow! as a supplement though, not as your only source of protein. Unless of course you are on the Velocity diet or some similar program.

I think I understand your question. you just want to know if we use any other brand of protein besides Grow!.

SOme of us do, but most don’t. I’m almost totaly a Grow! alcolite. I’ve got one can of HDT ProBlend 55 that I got after I ran out of Grow! and I can’t finish it, it tastes like ass. I also like the Instone protein, but Grow! is still much better.

Low-Carb Grow! provides a sustained supply of aminos to the body. The different types of proteins are absorbed at different speeds, with the micellar casein being absorbed more slowly, of course.

A lot of people use Low-Carb Grow! both during the day and before going to sleep. If you want very fast absorption, such as in a post workout state, look into Surge.

In my opinion, this is a no brainer, Biotest stuff tastes great. If you haven’t tried it before, you really should. I used to buy crap at GNC and switch from disgusting flavor to disgusting flavor… then I found this site and my tastebuds thank me!

To echo on vroom’s comments, I’ve tried just about every protein powder under the sun. I’m sure there are some others out there that are of good quality, but I have basically stuck with Grow! ever since trying it for a few reasons:

  1. Protein quality. The protein blend is pretty fantastic and I’ve yet to see another on the market really match up well (between the whey isolate, micellar casein, etc.).

  2. Taste. Some of the others out there are flat out BRUTAL.

  3. Consistency. This one might sound odd, but most other protein powders (when mixed with my oatmeal or yogurt) turn everything watery as hell, which I hate. Grow! actually thickens stuff, which is nice. Also, just 2 scoops of it with a touch of water and it gets this nice pudding/frosting-like consistency.

  4. Price. No middle-man of GNC or Vitamin Shoppe. You get it right from the manufacturer, so it does not get that high mark-up of the retail chains.

Just my thoughts. Others may disagree… but they are likely anarchists who kick puppies for fun. Sick bastards…

Grow! exclusively? Absolutely! And for the reasons mentioned above.

I use Low-Carb Grow! and solid sources of protein throughout the day, and Surge for fast-digesting protein (and carbs) around my workout time.

Funny-I just posted about this on another thread. I love Grow!, but I also like a protein called Nitrean. As said, Grow! is a protein blend and can be used at any time of the time day. Excellent for pre-bed because of the micellar casein, but it need not be relegated to only pre-bed.

Low-Carb Grow! as protein exclusively? Absolutely not. Real food is my primary source of protein.

As a protein supplement, yes almost. I use Low-Carb Grow!, Grow! bars, and of course Surge. Well, it’s not really a supplement, but I also drink a lot of milk and Hood low-carb “milk” during the day.

Yup that’s what I meant, sorry for being so vague. Somehow I thought Low-Carb Grow! only used Micellar Casein, apparently I need a lesson of labelreading lol.

I have tried so many protein powders yet there aren’t many that don’t make me puke/cut my tongue out. Also since milk makes me bloat I’m always looking for protein that tastes good with water, well that narrows it down a lot I can tell you.

I use Low-Carb Grow! 1-3 times a day, Surge 1-2 times a day (on training days) and all my other protein comes from whole food (beef, chicken, cottage cheese, eggs, yogurt, nuts, etc.).

I think Low-Carb Grow! is actually more Whey that M.Casein… I could be wrong though.

A friend of mine said Muscle Milk was good stuff, so i went and checked the lable… NO WONDER ITS GOOD, IT HAS 20 GRAMS OF FAT PER SERVING. Jesus H.

I’d be more worried that Canola Oil is listed as the primary fat source, rather than how much there is in it.

It also has not only a protein, but a lipid blend - see the link below as to why this would be of concern.

EvoPro sounds ok, but I don’t think I’ll be ordering any of that in the land of Oz.

I pretty much don’t even bother going into commercial health food stores anymore, if I do go its usually for a.) getting some Eletro-mix or flax oil, or b.) going in to laugh at the other kinds of supplements and how corny their advertising is.

I use a Whey only protein for breakfast, Surge before and twice after training, and micellar casein as my last meal and sometimes to “fill in” during the day.

There are proteins that are 100% Casein. Take that protein and a whey protein and the problem is solved.
