What Are Kroc Rows?

No doubt, he uses straps now, but he’s also repping 225. Forevernade, I’d sure like a little insight to your comment, it sure comes across a harsh…

What’s the joke? That he is an ex-marine? A testicular cancer survivor? A pharamcist that works well over 60 hrs a week? trains with an unmatched intensity without anyone to push him most ofthe time? A powerlifter that regularly outlifts lifters in a heavier class? Enlighten us please.[/quote]

Hahaha. It was an ironic critical comment on how he uses himself to joke about the weightlifting industry, by making videos that satirize doing things ‘properly’. Thus, he literally makes ‘the’ joke of himself. Of course Kroc is a champ, but he also is lighthearted. If you thought I was trolling, I was, but those who don’t know Kroc wouldn’t know that, ey? Just like those who don’t know anything about Kroc don’t realize that Kroc is joking when he puts up silly videos of his training.

Funny. Shuts the haters up.

Forevernade,
Thanks for the reply, sorry for going off like I did. I’ve been gone from this site for a while and spend a lot of my time on elite, so when I saw that it just set wrong. You’re right, he does like to make light of himself, like most everyone on that site. Hell, Jackass was “created” solely to give some guys hell as a troll.

What would be the proper weight to start utilizing straps with kroc rows? I am repping at 100/110 (I am 5’10" 170) right now without straps, but think that when I move up that my grip is going to start effecting the quality of my grip. Should I just force my grip to get stronger or should I bring in the straps?

Thanks,

WC7

Depends why you’re doing them tbh…

I’m doing them to build my back, not strengthen my grip, so I guess I can decipher from your minimalist answer that you think I should use straps?

Pretty much, yeah!

Yes. Just make sure you’re actually doing the whole scapular retraction thing etc… It’s not a bicep exercise.

Matt btw now alternates between doing them for very high reps with a lighter bell without straps (like, 175x40 or some such) and heavier weight with straps (7-15 or so, like 300x12)

Gets you the best of both worlds…

i’d say force your grip to get stronger if you can - i made the terrible mistake of overusing versa-gripps for the last 6 months or so, and now when i go to do any heavy pulling/rowing my grip dies right out. normally i’d say go for it and use straps since you’re only doing the rows for your back, but really, it sucks when you don’t even notice your grip leaving then go to deadlift and feel like a little girl. that said, my grip might also be getting bad because the lateral raise machine at my gym was apparently putting pressure on my ulnar nerve and making my thumb go numb once a week, so that might be part of the problem…(and, no, i don’t always use lateral raise machines. in fact, i pretty much hate them, but you need to switch things up now and again…)

Jim Wendler said “Kroc rows are dumbbell rows using weight that you think you can only lift once, but lifting it 50 times.” Hahahahaha

call me elitist but i dont consider a kroc rows if its not:

-done with at least 150lb with strpas( hell at least 160)
-done with at least 140lb without traps

  • over 20 reps

Really funny, but also excellent advice!

It all depends on where your strength level is at.

Call me an elitist, but I don’t consider it a deadlift unless it’s 1003lbs.

If you want a hand crush grip don’t use straps on anything.

Saying your forearms hold you back when you row is like saying your tris hold you back when you bench.

Make forearms stronger. Use chalk.

Not even if it’s 1000lbs!? Wow, I guess I don’t deadlift… ha ha.

I certainly can’t row without traps.

…if are no strict rows…those arent really heavy weights…
