With that kind of weight loss it will be tuff to get a shirt that you will nail a pr with…out of curiosity why are you going to loose that much weight?
Usually I dont let my weight vary more than 10 pounds either way that way I can get use to equipment and challenge pr’s in my weight class.
Good luck Big martin
I’m losing the weight mainly because I’ve become a fatass. I’ve gained 36 pounds since January, mostly in my gut. So, I was planning on dieting starting in August anyway. Right now I weigh 220, so I want to get down to 198. I’m definitely not going for any records. Right now I can bench 350 with a pause. I’m not even sure how long you have to pause in a meet, though. This is just something to give me focus for a while. I’m looking forward to it.
My first meet was a USPF meet. if its just a local meet then the judging will be a little more lax. If your gonna lose that much weight then you are gonna have to get another shirt once you get close. Get one now and then get another one closer to the meet. USPF rules state that the shirt must be closed back or be able to velcro all the way up the back. Steve got lucky with his shirt in his first meet. They wouldnt allow that in my first meet. I would go with an inzer shirt because they have very quick delivery. That way you can get used to the bigger shirt and when you get lighter you can go with the smaller shirt. Get either a HPHD or EHPHD. You can get inzer to make it a velcro closed neck shirt. You will thank me for that because a completely closed back shirt is not fun to get on at all.
Thanks for the advice.
Pull thru question for the big boys,
HOw much weight do you guys use? Do you get sore from them? I don’t at all, but they make me sweat.
I do two types. A wide stance more of a squat type one with bent knees that hits the glutes, and hammies more. Then a medium to narrow stance one with straight legs that hits the lower back more.
I do the narrower ones more explosive.
Do I have the right Idea?
They both sound good. I use 60 lbs or so, but I must say all weight stacks are different. My stack is a single pulley. Some of those double pullies are a little easier. I use 60-80 lbs on my stack for pushdowns to give you an idea. some of the double stacks I would use 120-130. From what I remember, I would handle about 100-130 on those stacks. Just remember to snap those hips.
Okay, this thread now has over 300 responses on it, so I’m going to shut it down and open a new “Westside Questions” thread. I’ve also been trying to come up with a good keyword that people can use for this stuff, so that it’ll come up in a search and not be complicated with a lot of dross.
The word I’ve come up with is “Simmonstate” - should be easy to remember, both for the names (Simmons and Tate) and because of the pun. So go ahead and write it down somewhere, and I’ll include it on the subsequent thread(s) as well.
Thanks to everyone for participating. This has been a great thread.
