Westside/PLing Training Thread

Those are exactly what I was alluding to.

Just because you’re putting up two big wheels a side doesn’t make you worthy of a shirt. You need to know the correct mix of products to treat vaginaitis for those hard days in the gym. Do you think you’ve got what it takes?

And, what is this towel rack squat you speak of? I didn’t know you can train with that. Obviously you’re more advanced than you’re letting on. I thought it was only to hang towels so I don’t have to leave my towels on the ground?[/quote]

I like to slather on a thick coat of vagisil mixed with equal parts gynolotramin right before i unleash the fury on the smith machine. i like to wrap a towel around the bar because it really hurts my neck when i’m pounding out rep after rep on my ATG squats. I’m following a routine that i found in the most recent copy of Muscle and Fitness. It promises to put three inches of mass on my wheels in three weeks. If Jay Cutler can do it… I know I can. Besides, I’ve been taking my super creatine three times a day now for almost three days.

I’ve been doing the Westside Template for two weeks now. I want to start benching in a double denim shirt. i don’t think it will be a problem considering my max bench is well over 225 now. anyone have suggestions on good ones??

Before you start looking into bench shirts, you need to first know this, “You gotta have balls to lift big weight Newbie. You think you’re balls are big enough?”

well… considering i’m already putting up two big wheels a side on the bench… i think that speaks for its self. Not to brag but i can also smith machine squat 315.

Thats impressive, but if you dedlift 315 thats inspirational!

Do you count the weight of the bar for that lift?

(70%)195x5 x5 (misloaded an extra 5lbs on one side) x5 x5

4)DB Flys

5)Standing DB Twisting Curls
35x10 x8 x8

Notes: Todays workout was annoying because one of the trainers decided to use over 20 plates on the leg press to do a 3 inch range of motion. He was also using the hammer strength row with 4 plates a side (easy fucking machine). All in all he was taking up over 30 plates in the gym while me and my buddy had to go on a scavenger hunt in order to be able to do deadlifts.

And then we had to stop “dropping” the weights and put them down gently because the people in the offices below us were complaining.

Anyway, todays workout was difficult. I’m used to deadlifting very fresh and for singles so this was an interesting change, especially having to put the bar down gently.

My mind was all over the place and I misloaded one of the bench attempts with an extra 5lbs on one side. The second time around with the benching was just tiring. I probably need to start pausing them a bit more and I definitely need to keep a more solid elbow tuck throughout. It’s hard keeping focus on the minute details after such a long workout.

First of all dont even mention smith machine squats. Second you dont have any business starting out in a double denim shirt. You need to really consider getting much stronger before you consider using a shirt. Then you first shirt should be a fairly loose single ply poly.

I have hit 510 in a bench only meet and 560 in the gym, I am still using a single ply rage X. I have tried double ply denim and poly, I could not even touch my chest with 575! You really need to be a 600 bencher before you even worry about double ply bro!

Mountainman2007,

Haha, Meat’s just fucking with you. He’s an old timer here. The only shirt he’s going to use is a 50/50 cotton blend, and he’s pushing well over 500 in that one.

Some video from today’s session.

Benching- Seems that the elbows are flaring out too soon once again. I need to pause for an extra half second or so as well.

Deadlift- Hips starting a little high perhaps. Hard to keep good form with all the work before it. Had to place the bar down “gently” which was just awesome.

Any and all suggestions and comments are welcome.

Sheiko #31 Week 4 Day 2

Bench Press
130x5x1
155x4x1
185x3x2
210x2x2
235x1x3
210x2x2

Deadlift
275x3x1
335x3x1
390x3x2
445x2x2
500x1x2

Press
95x5x5
160x1x1

Hanging Leg Raise
BWx11x3

Bench felt light, deadlift felt heavy. I threw in an estimated 90% single on the press just for fun. I tried using my belt for one of the 390lb sets on deadlift, but didn’t like how it felt.

I’m right with you Matt, I am going to run Sheiko #29 + the 5 week comp cycle for my meet on March 29. Wish me luck. I have you and Hanley to learn from, lol.

come on man… don’t be hate’n on the smith machine. i get a killer burn in the wheels when i pump out my ATG squats.

And i don’t want to wait to get into the double denim. I want to be really strong NOW!! Who has time to put in the time to get strong first. I’m thinking the more gear… the better. i wear my Briefs when i spot my partner during squat rack curls.

25 Pound Plate Deadlifts (about a three inch deficit)
95x8
115x5
145x5
165x5
195x5
215x5
mixed grip
235x5
245x5 (baseline PR)
215x5

Walking Dumbbell Lunges 35’sx20 (PR+20), 10, 10

Assisted Manual Hamstring Raises 8, 8, 8, 10

Decline Sit-Ups (all at the steepest decline) 35x8, 40x8 (PR+5), 45x6 (PR+10), 45x8 (PR+2 reps)

My deadlift is increasing faster than it ever has. Three weeks ago I pulled 265x3, and today I did 245x5 at a three inch deficit. If I go for a triple next week, I could probably match my best deadlift at a deficit. I’ve never made progress this fast. Funnily enough, my family has just recently started accusing me of using steroids because my traps are growing so much. Deadlifts rule.
